Any push mower can stripes with striping kit and sharp blades, it doesn't need to be expensive.

Absolutely, I've been know to use a grad Matt to stripe! Sharp blade is a good call, often overlooked and essential for grass health too

I use a Vintage Qualcast Panther 30s push mower and I cut at around 10mm - 15mm and my strips are always sharp. It's not the HOC you're cutting it's down to the type of grass your cutting.

That too, what grass do you have? I mentioned in the video how hard it is to keep ryegrass striped for along time due to it's tendancy to want to stand up. How vintage are we talking? I love the old Qualcasts!

@@MowdLtd I would say my mower is from around the 70s. I've had it 25 years myself. My lawn is a mix of grasses but i overseeded with Johnsons Fine leaved Dwarf perennial Ryegrass, Strong Creeping Red Fescue, Slender Creeping Red Fescue.

which cylinder lawnmower you are using in the video? thanks!
@MowdLtd
@MowdLtd 29 күн бұрын
The cylinder mower is the Allett Stirling, the rotary mower is the Cobra RM40. Both brilliant mowers, but the Stirling is high end for home lawns, around £4000 depending on which model and attachments. The Cobra is around £400 if I remember right, it's a beauty. We have also tested the Allett Cambridge recently - great home mower for around £2100, but we are about to release our review of the Cobra Fortis this Saturday too!

Some great advice there thank you,do you use any liquid fertilizers?
@MowdLtd

Thanks very much, great to know this is useful to our viewers! I do use some liquid treatments (kelp, humic acid, etc) but only because I love treating my lawn! We produce a total care plan that uses exclusively granular products as it's easier to apply and more consistent for our customers. I do like a good liquid selective weedkiller tho!

Oh and liquid iron when needing a rapid green up (for videoing or a party!)

If you’re that good. Anyone who knows about stripes and mowing correct, never looks down in front, they pick the furthest spot they’re going to and stick to that, not looking down like you. Absolute rubbish

I'm that good I can cut stripes with my eyes shut! I have a mark on my grass box that lines up with the edge of stripes, as I'm cutting stripes that already exist. When cutting new stripes I do the basic pick a spot technique. But you do you, we all have our preferred methods, and if it works, it works

Absolutely if your cutting straight lines, I grew up cutting concentric circles on cricket out fields, can't pick a spot in the distance cutting circles! Pluss, I got to be honest, talking to camera, remembering what your trying to say and cutting is a bit tough, but I give it my best. Thanks for your comments, I've learnt loads from our viewers, different techniques and so on, the day you think you know it all is the day before you make a big mistake! Hope you enjoy the other videos more

@@IanScott-cb6ln Best thing about the grounds keeping world is that the old-guard that taught us what we know, had their own way and passed it down. This video is clearly not aimed at teaching well-practiced folk on what they are doing wrong or how they could be doing it, but rather help to educate those that have never done it before. Everyone has the method that works for them, and some don't have a starting point at all. Would be cool if all ex-head greenkeepers would share their own knowledge on youtube to pass on their ways, rather than trolling and putting down other people's efforts at sharing information with the world.
