Hi guys ! If you are a beginner in guitar programming, this video will show you how to strum an AmpleSound VST. We will program a simple pattern with a nice chord progression.
As some of you asked me in the comments or in private message if I could do courses for beginners, I hope this one will help you to familiarize yourself with the strummer interface of your guitar VST.
I'm going to use Ample Guitar Martin, but you can follow the course with the free guitar VST plugin AGML2 - or any other plugin designed by AmpleSound.
To begin, we are going to use a very common chord progression in country and pop music : a B minor, a B minor 7, an A major and a G major.
Then, we will design the strum pattern, adjust velocities to add emphasis and program chord switches in MIDI.
I hope you will find the course clear, concise and useful. If you did, give it a thumbs up !
Do not hesitate to leave a comment if you encounter any difficulties.
Oh and here's the drum file if you want to practice with the playback :
mega.nz/#F!mW4...
Cheers !

Great job my man. This is the only video I needed to understand what I assume most people want to know - how to create a strum sequence using this plugin without getting intimidated by the slightly complex plug-in interface.

So good William. I have only just found you on You Tube. I am 69 years old and played bass most of my life now play a little guitar. I have had Ample Sound Taylor for a couple of years and never knew that it could do do much. I know a little music theory but you make it look easy and you are a great teacher. I hope that you continue you videos especial with the strum patterns. I am going to watch your video again for the 30th time to make sure I understand. Excellent stuff.

Hey Dude!! I am so greatful right now!! You have opened so many doors in my creativity. I battled with this plugins. I used to make three or more tracks, with each dedicated to one chord and one pattern! I even attempted to "program" different strumming patterns with the automations. But now I am set. I did not know it was so simple!! A note triggers a chord, and a nother note triggers the patterns!! AWESOME!!! I am for ever in debt with you.

Thank you William! (Where were you 3 years ago when I first started struggling with programming Ample Sound products?!!!) Ample products sound great - but the people at Ample assume we know way too much when they are writing their instruction manuals and documentation!!) Keep up the great work!

Thank you bthrowerr ! The instructions manuals could be indeed better. But I think it's always difficult to teach an instrument (be there a real one or a VST) without video materials haha. AmpleSound's products are really great once we know how to use them. Which is the purpose of this channel. Cheers ;)

I just bought some Amplesound guitars and have to say this is the most twisted UI ever. External (DAW) MIDI notes to trigger little sequence snippets instead of allowing multiple bars of sequence to be grouped as a patterns or in a song, is quite strange. I don't think I would have figured out hope to string more than 1 bar of strumming +chord changes together without this video. Still scratching my head a bit as my (most current) Ui is slightly difference and doesn't have an obvious place to assign the note to trigger the seq. It actually looks easier to just program one bar at a time and drag it over as midi notes into a track.

Hi William... I don't know if it's just me, or just in Cakewalk, or just on the free M Lite... But it does not work that way if you.... If I'm using the free M Lite... in strumer is says Switch to Chord 1(Strum Mode Note C1) C1 is midi key number 24... right. that's what you were using but in my gear, (with strum playing witch is C5 key 72 not C3, and then the next 7 # keys) if I press C1, nothing happens I have to press C3, witch is Key 48. and then the next 23 keys up to B4, key 71. No wonder I was getting confused.

I'm missing a step that's probably obvious. I can create a chord in Strummer and tell it whether to strum up or down, etc, but then how do I assign that chord to a MIDI note in Piano Roll Editor, and how do I come back and create another chord for after the chord change? It's probably something really obvious that I've missed. I just can't figure out how to make it play back, and I assume it's because I don't see how to assign a chord to a given key. Maybe a step I missed at the beginning?

Even though this guys channel is a goldmine (subscribed already) I have a couple one offs. My in-DAW midi keyboard, as in the keyboard inside my DAW, not my physical one (don't have access to physical equipment at the moment and can only use VSTs), is causing Ample to "act on it's own". Meaning, for instance, when I was dragging a note to C1, not only was that the incorrect input causing my ample sequencer to change to the number 2, something else causes my Page Index to switch. Also, what you use and what Ample tells me to use, C#1 is not the next chord it plays. It's a hotkey to switch to something else and is completely silent instead of playing the intended second chord. Basically my in-DAW keyboard input (plain ol MIDI piano roll) isn't consistent with the software. Is this just a "figure it out" or does anyone know of any hotfixes by chance?

This is very confusing. I can't read music, but I play piano by ear excellent. Is there a simple way to strum, without going in and having to precisely fix so many things? Like, I just want to play the chords on the piano and have it sound like a guitar is strumming those chords.
