When Joe Lewis (RIP) came in to train with us his constant lesson was "foundation" which for him was footwork, position and balance from that. This lesson from TTP is the foundation, I have have found, to my music path. From here it is easier to explore the diverse aspects of music.

That was so much fun! I'm a music teacher and I write songs but I've been wondering how I could introduce more variety in my uke playing. This would be a great activity for kids, having them mix and match the beats like that. Thank you for a great lesson!

Cheers Stephanie, I appreciate you and what you do for the kids!

Basic beat is 1, 2, 3, 4 with down strums on each beat. These are quarter notes. 1:35 Split in two quarter notes become eighth notes and are generally played “up” So 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1⬇️ &⬆️ 2⬇️ &⬆️ 3⬇️ &⬆️ 4⬇️ &⬆️

This is fabulous thank you. You’re really all about the rhythm rather than just teaching the pattern, and with uke it seems the rhythm is what its all about. I just need to play more in order to practice 😀

Bought my neice a uke for Xmas. She is getting there with the chords and confidently switching between them but her strumming and timing isn't there yet. Slowly putting together a playlist to go through with her and this is a great help. Thank you!

I’ve owned my ukulele now for over 4 years, and I always start to teach myself but end up giving up (or looked for something to distract me from practicing and lying to myself about practicing later lol). That said, if I’m real with myself, the strum struggle is what I can’t seem to get. Just couldn’t understand or break down the awesome songs I wanted to play but end up choking on not being able to grasp the strum. I really want to pick it up again. I have a traditional piano background and can read sheet music (not tabs lol). So I hope I can do it now. 😅😬😫 Seriously this video of yours was huge. Hope it was all I needed. Wish me luck.

When I strum, my fingers get stuck on the strings. How can I make it look like I'm strumming with ease like you are.
@TenThumbsProductions10 ай бұрын
That happened to me ALL the time when I was learning and it was because I was strumming over the sound hole. It happens a lot less if you strum where the neck and the body of the ukulele come together. This will show you exactly what I mean. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWelfpdqe8aljdU

i am a music noob. This is my second week into learning the first instrument, ukuele. This is really helpful. I am hoping that I have a hidden talent lol. Any tips lol??
@TenThumbsProductions4 жыл бұрын
I got lots of tips man! First off welcome, great choice choosing the Ukulele. So, think about the chords and strum patterns, these are the tools that you create songs with. A song is 3 elements, melody (what you sing, but this can also be played, that is what 'instrumental' songs are') the harmony, these are the chords, and the rhythm, in the case of the ukulele the strum pattern. By knowing as many strum patterns and chords as possible you are going to learn songs a lot faster. So here is as video with the 5 most important strum patterns that you will see A LOT kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIusfnaEf7VkpKc and here is every beginner chord kzbin.info/www/bejne/b16kp5h7f5eradU People who say the Ukulele is "easy" are mistaken, it is easy to get started and very difficult to master, so it will take hard work and dedciation depending on how far you want to go, so an organied practice routine is very important. For you it could be 5 minute warm up, playing somehting you know, 20 minutes doing the strum patterns 20 minutes review the chords and then after 45 minutes find a song and spend 45 minutes learning that new song. If you practice those 90 minutes daily you will be REALLY good in a year, and you will be ready to impress friends and family in less than a month!
@saladink99874 жыл бұрын
And here I was thinking that 45 minutes is enough for daily practice. But, I really appreciate the fundamentals that you provided. I have been practicing the 4 beginner chords from your video, and they are sounding good (I think). G chord is a little struggle because sometimes I fail to pin all the strings in time during transition. This is partially because I need to develop finger muscles on my left hand. I don’t know if this is a common thing. Thankfully, I am seeing improvement as I am practicing each day. Is this “finger separation” a common struggle? Just wondering if you have had students or followers that also struggle(d) with this issue. Also, I am trying to develop my rhythm while strumming. The other day, I was trying to play “I am yours” by following your video. Alas, I struggled with rhythm. I didn’t practice 45 minutes though lol. However, I would deeply appreciate if you can give some tips (and/or make a video) on how to develop rhythm. I am trying to be able to identify beats within a song. I had some friends during university years that could break down a song by listening to it. I know that might be a long way into my future, but my goal is to learn music through ukulele and then be able to play a few more instruments.

I was taught to strum with my thumb and I’ve been playing for about 5 years. I don’t know how to properly strum as I have gotten too used to strumming with just my thumb. Do you have any tips?
@TenThumbsProductions4 жыл бұрын
Megan L Hi Megan, there is a time and place for the “thumb strum” especially in chord melody when you want to emphasis a particular note, so don’t feel like it was wasted time, but when you are signing and jamming the index finger is a better option. Here is a video to help you get you started. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWelfpdqe8aljdU

Thanks, I made my own song, no Disney team music. I showed to my family, they said it is good. I don't know if I can do one with the Disney song. I will send to you just in case. I am new with the uku, I play as much as I can, but I still a little green. So, can you give me an idea of strumming for that music? Thanks!

TenThumbs Productions . Well keep in mind I am one month in so chord progression and changes are improving daily . super excited on my progress - your email videos are great. I haven’t even looked at the other strumming patterns as I am struggling with just the basic one I mentioned. Ive read that you can play a ton songs with this strumming pattern. I know this is a journey and I’m pretty patient.
