Nice job. I just completed mine and I'm wondering if I need to build a covering over my oven or will the stucco be enough to keep the moisture out? (I live in Northrup Carolina, so we have moderate amounts of rain throughout the year and occasional ice and snow in winter). Thoughts? Thanks.

Hi I'm so sorry I was unable to get back to you to answer some of your questions. I took some time off. Hope everything went well for you. I would definitely invest in a cover, which I'm sure you did. Ken

Hi Ken. I finished my pizza oven and I'm glad I listened to your advice and used Portland Cement Type S given I couldn't find the plastic cement here in Canada. Oven turned out very nice! I dp have a follow up question.... I added a clay chimney flue and rendered it with about 2 inches of Portland cement type S (chicken wire to bond it together). My dome doesn't heat up at all given the insulation I added BUT the chimney flue does heat up since I didn't add any insulation. QUESTION: If I set the mosaic tiles on the chimney flue with the Custom Building Products PremiumPlus Standard Thin-Set Mortar, is there a risk that the tiles will fall off given the high temperature? Perhaps I should use a high heat mortar mix instead?

Hi Ken. I will be putting my perlite pizza dome onto the fire brick pizza base and wanted to get some expert advice… Want ratio of fire clay to sand would you recommend to mortar down the pizza oven dome to the fire clay base? 1:1 ratio? I wanted to make sure it’s secured and will not move. Thanks!!

Hi Antonia. I wish I could help you but maybe someone else here can better answer your question. If I had to guess I may go up to 3:1. You will need to run a test

Hi, how much is the thickness of the full fiber ceramic insulation? how many degrees do you measure on the external layer when the oven is hot (400-450 °C)? After one hour or two hours? Thank you

What kind of mixture are you adding as first and second layer? Is there a difference between them?
@AbersonPlastering7 жыл бұрын
Richard. The first coat is a 1 part plastic cement to 3 parts sand. The second coat is 1 parts plastic cement to 4 parts sand. Or pre mixed scratch and brown material would work fine. Sold at large box stores. Wait a day or 2 before applying the second coat, Then at least 2 weeks before finish coat, to let the material bleed and cure. Waiting a month is even better to be sure it is ready to be finished.

Hi. The second coat has more sand than the first. The first coat is 1:3 and second coat is 1 cement to 4 parts sand. Remember to hydrate between coats
@antoniopecora98372 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken. Would a type s concrete mortar work in the event we can't find plastic cement? I understand that Type S concrete mortar already has sand mixed in. If so, I'm assuming we would just add water and that's it? Any thoughts are much appreciated!
@AbersonPlastering2 жыл бұрын
Is this for a pizza oven? If you can’t find the plastic cement then go for it but try a sample first to make sure that it doesn’t crack too much and make sure it’s not too soft and be sure to hydrate end of the day and the beginning of the next day

@@AbersonPlastering Great. Yes... this is for a pizza oven that I'm building. I made the pizza oven dome from perlite and portland cement (5:1 ratio)... I added chicken wire for structure. The next phase is to cover it with insulation, chicken wire and then 2 coats of the Type S cement (following your video). Hopefully it works out!

hey sir please can u tell me what material did u used ???please please
@AbersonPlastering4 жыл бұрын
Hello Zamfir, for the base coat we used sack material from Home depot, scratch and brown coat. All you have to do is add water. For the finish coat we used Omega Products international, medium akroflex finish. It also comes in smooth and coarse material as well. Hope this helps you.

You really need to use gloves and a respirator with ceramic fibre. It is cancer causing.
