Just a clarification, for the writing section, I mentioned it's just one section but TWO ESSAYS. I hope that's clear-one Writing Section with 2 essays!

Hey! I am Aksa. I would like to apply for psy.d in some US Universities. So can you please tell me which Gre should I take. Is it general GRE or GRE psychology.can you please help me with this?
@philsguidetopsyd3 жыл бұрын
@@aksapsunny Hi Aksa! It depends on what schools you apply to. A lot of psyd programs don't require the GRE psychology so I only took the general GRE and applied to the programs that accepted the general GRE. If there's a school that you really like and they require the GRE psychology, then I would do the GRE psychology, but yeah depends on the schools you apply to. Hope that helps!

Hi for a PhD, the school I’m looking at requieres a psy gre??? I already have a general gre? But since I’m a MA in anthropology it was suggested I take the psy gre???
@philsguidetopsyd7 ай бұрын
Some schools require that, yes you could ask the school if your general gre will suffice but they might require that you take the additional psy gre.

Hi Phil! I was looking forward to this video topic for weeks. Whats your opinion on a school that judges applications holistically but also states in the past they have rarely admitted students below the 50th percentile on verbal and math. I feel like there playing games with my head! Yes, they look at recommendation letters, clinical experience etc, but to say they have not admitted anyone with a low GRE typically is mixed signals. Whats your take on that?
@philsguidetopsyd3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ketia! Yeah, that's definitely some mixed signals! I wonder how true their statement is. I know for some schools, to make it seem like they're good schools an all (rank high in clinical psychology ), they will say they have cut-offs or that they rarely accept low scores, but they are in some ways bluffing because they do end up accepting applicants with low GRE scores. I know for clinical psychology cohorts in other programs, there are definitely students who were below the 50th percentile, and those students attend highly ranked clinical psychology schools. So I wonder if it's a mixture of school intimidation/bluffing or also treating it case by case for individuals depending on their situation or background. One thing I wish I did when applying to clinical psychology schools was email the schools that had rejected me and asked them why they rejected me and if it was because of my GRE score ( i was about average) or something else in my application. Usually, they will let applicants know. Hope that helps, it can for sure be a tricky process!

hi Thank you for the video. we have to give GRE general and GRE psychology test right?
@philsguidetopsyd2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And it depends on what school you apply to, some schools require it and some don't
@piyushsharma32332 жыл бұрын
That was an appreciable amount of information. To apply to psychology Masters, are we required to give a general GRE exam or any specific GRE for psychology; if so then if you could help with a difference between the 2. Thank you!
@philsguidetopsyd2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the school that you apply to, some schools require it and some don't. I actually haven't taken the GRE for psychology so I'm not actually sure what advice I can give about that subtest, but I'll see if we can find future guests to speak more on it!

I'm worried about getting into grad school, my GPA was under 3 upon graduation and I am not the best test-taker. Are there any tips?
@philsguidetopsyd2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander, yeah great question! I have a video coming up about this topic, you're def not along in this predicament. There are post bac graduate programs that help to raise GPA, also getting a masters and getting a good gpa on that masters will look well on an application, or having other strong areas of your application like LOR, personal statement, research/clinical experience, and strong interview skills. So there's def ways around it! Hope that helps, hope to provide more content in the future about this topic

I commented on an older video and wasn’t sure if it would be seen, so decided to comment here as well.😂 Do neuropsychologists do any type of therapy? I’m interested in a psychological career but not interested in therapy. Also would a neuropsychologist be researching disorders such as depression and anxiety or strictly adhd ,autism, and Alzheimer’s?
@philsguidetopsyd3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes great question, neuropsychologists can in fact do therapy if they would like! Neuropsychologists are trained to do therapy, but there are many who once they are licensed barely do any therapy at all, so it depends on the individual how much or not they want to do therapy. They can work at psychological assessment clinics and just do diagnosing. And yes neuropsychologists can research disorders like depression and anxiety, but their education will be more focused on disorders like ADHD, autism, and Alzheimers.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I have a couple of questions I really hope you can help me with. Firstly, is the GRE a written, like physically on paper, kind of exam or is it computer based? And secondly, I'm trying to figure out what master's in psychology to choose, could you explain a bit more of what clinical psychology is? Thanks so much!!!
@philsguidetopsyd3 жыл бұрын
The GRE is an exam you take on the computer, multiple-choice, writing section includes typing out an answer to an essay, so yes everything is computer based. Clinical psychology is mostly based in therapy, psychological testing of mental health disorders, and research/teaching for those interested. If you are interested in a masters in psychology, I would recommend figuring out what you want to do in your future career first, whether its teaching, research, therapy, or psychological testing, then you may find masters programs that can either give you research experience, or clinical experience depending on what you want to do in your career. Hope that helps, good luck!
