I’m 18 from Arizona I’m about to graduate high school, studying abroad is something I’ve always wanted, but am still intimidated in college itself… I’m a little lost with what I want to study still as well I don’t think I would do well in China 😅

Welcome to the channel! You are still young and haven’t entered university yet so you have plenty of time to figure out where you want to go. If your plan is to study in the US but do an exchange program abroad then you still have a couple of years to do some research and talk to the coordinators at your university. If you want to do the entire degree abroad then I suggest maybe taking a gap year to figure out exactly where you want to go and do extensive research to see how your chosen place fits your needs and wants. I’ll admit China is a huge step out of the comfort zone especially if you are from the US or western cultures. However, it’s not to say that you can’t do it! You just have to prepare yourself for the ups and downs which will most definitely happen. If China is too much of a big step, try researching a western culture country(e.g. in Europe, North or South America) which can be much easier to assimilate into. Anyways, enough of my rambling. I hope this helps and good luck on your search! Definitely reach out to myself and others in case you need more help👍🏾

Diandre, great job with the video. It's very informative and to the point! Thank you. I'd like to ask a question based on your experience/knowledge. Have you ever heard about a chinese university accepting a student past the application deadline? I'm going to be a self funded language (non degree) student. It's a little for the sept sem, but i was wondering while that sept sem is still a month away. Do the uni's fill in seats for the course post dedlines? Just in case you ever heard about that from someone or your thoughts. Thanks again

Hello! I do know some Chinese. I'm in the HSK 4 level of study. However, I don't always practice speaking so I always say I'm not that good😅. I have not taken any true Chinese courses with the exception of an online beginners course for a semester during the virus era. I think everyone learns at a different pace. I truthfully believe that practicing speaking is the best way to learn as I have seen some friends do it since I have been here. If you take an intensive language program here in person, it is very common to progress to conversational fluency in the span of 1 year. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Hi! Thank you for all the usefull infos! I have 2 questions; First one: is there a specific time to apply? Second: I finished high school 3 years ago and started working, now i want to go to university in my country but as i want to study to become a translator for chinese, i think studying this in china would be definitely better. My question is do I have to be already in university to be able to apply for the scholarship? Thank you!
@itsDiandre
@itsDiandre 9 ай бұрын
For your first question, I believe that there are specific deadlines but I am unsure of them for the current term. These deadlines could also different depending on the scholarship type you are applying for. It is best to refer to the official websites of your target university or the embassy that you are applying through if you choose that option. As for your second question, you can receive a scholarship for a language program specifically. You do not have to be enrolled in a university to apply. In that case, you will be taking intensive or standard chinese courses (some programs may also allow you to take a few other course such as business) that will prepare you to take the HSK exam at the end of your term.

This is actually a great question. I think you should talk about what is most compelling and unique to your specific situation but definitely add in some info about each of those topics. I'd say the idea is to stand out with a distinctive story but tie it into what makes you want to study in China.

Is it possible to study my bachelor's degree in English applying to CSC scholerships?
@itsDiandre
@itsDiandre 3 ай бұрын
Yes! You just have to find a program that offers English courses. You will most likely still be required to achieve some HSK level before you graduate. Generally around HSK 3-4 you will have to pass to graduate but your school will offer you Chinese language courses along with your regular major specific courses.

@itsDiandre

This means that for example if it is a 4 year degree, you would instead have 5 years. The first year will only be Chinese language courses in order to improve your Chinese to prepare for the courses. The following 4 years you will spend taking major specific courses and completing the degree requirements.

I think it all depends on the competition and the judges. I would suggest making up for “bad grades” in your study plan. You can sell yourself with your interests, previous experiences, hobbies, and any leadership opportunities you have been involved in. Also express how those experiences will shape your studying experience at your target university in China.

Hello, Yes you can apply for the scholarship if you are already in China. I have some friends who are in the process of applying right now. As for accommodation, it depends on the school's dorm styles. Many of the dorms have two-person rooms or even 4 person rooms. There are also some dorms that are individual rooms like mine. I know this comment is long but please give me some sort of advice or tip on this situation. Bro I know I left a like on this video but I feel like Just trying to go to China alone is impossible. Why do I say this? Because of my parents and how much we've been brainwashed into thinking China is bad. Another thing to mention is how expensive it is to visit China alone. Today I have tried booking a plane ticket to China, which nearly cost me all of my savings. Another thing is the fact that my family prefers me to go to hong kong than mainland China which is absolute bull shit. Not to curse excuse me for my foul language. I am 20 years old and yes I still live with my parents because making a living without my parents is nearly impossible, especially with inflation. I have no idea if you are in China or America but I have to rant. I have to rant especially when I see my cousins who are the same age as me or a year or two older than me traveling to foreign countries. I have a genuine passion for China and yes I want to take my family's business to the next level in China. So My initial plan was to visit China at least at the age of 20 or under the age of 20 so that when I am older I have a properly developed plan on what to do and how to do it but my family keeps letting me down and on top of that they keep adding cards in the mix like, "You're black and Chinese people don't like black people!!!" or "China is communist THEY WILL COOK YOU UP AND EAT YOU!!!" or to add the cherry on top, "You are only 20 years old you have your whole life ahead of you what is the rush? Besides America is better than China why China out of all countries?". My parents keep letting me down. However I want to thank you for making this video. I don't know what the hell it's going to take me to go to China but I am mentally depressed and now feel envious on the fact that I see people travel and I'm the only one that can't travel and I work my ass off to get nothing but loss of money in return. This makes me feel depressed and want to give up on life!!! I have tried convincing my parents, showing my parents videos like this one, researching China in depth, and trying to tell my parents about my passion for life. I don't want to be 28 years old visiting China for the first time. I don't want to be 35 years old studying in China. I don't want to be in the rat race. I know this comment was long but thank you for reading it

Thank you for watching! I think there was a typo and you meant scholarships for those who don’t know Chinese. But yes there is! You just have to find a program that is taught in English. Hi, thanks for doing this video. I'm a recently high school graduate with 17 yo interested in applying for applied physics at undergraduate degree, however I'm not fluent in English and have no IELTS/TOEFL certificate. Is important to have an English certified? And you can apply only with the Paperwork or do you need to do an interview, becouse as i said I'm not fluent and my speking is in like B1 level. I'm totally sure that i want to study Chinese, so an English program isn't necessarily. For what i know you can opt for a year of chinese
@itsDiandre
@itsDiandre 8 ай бұрын
Hello, you do not need English if your program is in Chinese however you will need to pass the required HSK exam(exam) for the program you apply for. As for the interview yes you will need to have an interview even after submitting the documents but you will probably be interviewed in Chinese. If you do decide to take an English program, then you will need to pass the IELTS or equivalent English exam.

Should you know how to speak Chinese before applying
@itsDiandre
@itsDiandre 5 ай бұрын
It all depends on the program you apply for. If it’s a Chinese based program then you may be required to have HSK level 4 or 5. If it’s an English based program you are not required to know Chinese ahead of time but you may need to take Chinese classes throughout your program and eventually pass HSK 3 or 4 to graduate. For a language program, you don’t need to know Chinese

Yes, there are language programs offered at many schools in China. You can take a semester program or a year program.

If I graduated from high school but am now taking a technical course, am I still eligible to try to get a undergraduate or is there any impediment? In the case of letters of recommendation, can they be from teachers of the technical course or must they be from teachers at my high school?
@itsDiandre
@itsDiandre Ай бұрын
Yes you will still be eligible! Your program coordinators may ask about your technical course due to the “gap” in studying but it should not hinder your chances. As for the recommendation letters, I’m not fully sure if you are allowed to use references from your technical course. I would suggest maybe mixing in professors from both but using the ones who will give you the best recommendation letters

Hi Don! I'm preparing to apply through my country's embassy. I'm expecting they will post the scholarship in early Dec and usually it only lasts 1 month. Since one of the required docs is the University's acceptance letter, I wonder how long it took you to receive yours so I work on that ASAP, I'm just scared I won't receive it on time by the time I need to submit my documents to the embassy. Also, which Uni are you attending? I'm so excited to apply and your video helped a lot! Hope I can make it there!

Hello KaMi! It took around 2- 2&1/2 months to receive my acceptance letter from the university. I’m sure your embassy would understand so speak with them if the deadlines are approaching and you have yet to receive acceptance. Also, I attend East China Normal University. Thanks for watching! Glad I could help!

@@itsDiandre I’m thinking of applying for a software engineering bachelor degree with my BAC (high school equiv) cus i did a 2year diploma after (in network IT and cybersSec ) but I guess They won’t recognize it, will it count as an experience? @@creed404yt9 It should count as experience. But it definitely won't hold you back! As long as you are under the age of 25 (I believe this is still the age), then you can apply for a bachelors program. I hope all goes well! Good luck!!

Thank you for this video! I'm thinking of applying to Exchange so I was looking for scholarships but I couldn't be sure if they are available for exchange students ( or to my department, some scholarships only for students who study chinese etc as their major) soo you gave me hope hahah and which scholarship did you applied while you were doing exchange? Currently I'm taking chinese classes but I'm not sure if I can pass the hsk3 on time for scholarships but I'm trying my best
@itsDiandre
@itsDiandre 9 ай бұрын
Hey! Majority of the scholarships I applied to were offered from my uni. Thats the first place I suggest you search. Try to schedule a meeting with one of the study abroad coordinators at your uni and ask them about the scholarship opportunities. Then there are many outside resources offering scholarships for exchange studies which you can find through a quick google search. Best piece of advice is to spend time writing a quality essay for the ones that require it. Thats how I was awarded my scholarships. Take the HSK test regardless. You don’t lose anything if you don’t pass and you may end up surprising yourself on how much you know. Good luck and I hope you get a chance to study abroad!

Unfortunately, I don't have any link to the list of requirements but the requirements would be on each universities official pages. As for CS programs, you can start by searching the web for Chinese universities that offer CS. You can also search for the top schools in the nation and explore each one for their individual programs.

Hi Don. I just watch all of your videos.. I had applied in same university and got nominated as a csc candidate also my application is in process in csc a few days ago.. I just want to clarify that how much chances i have to select for the final evaluation of scholarship. I am just worried. Hope you answer my question

Thank you for the support🙏🏾 I received 2 emails about acceptance. The first email was acceptance of enrollment and then the second email was confirmation that I was awarded the scholarship. I did not have to wait for a “final evaluation”. I am unsure what you mean about that so I suggest you reach out to the contacts at the university for further assistance on that part. I assume since you were nominated as a candidate that you will be awarded the scholarship but I am not 100% sure. Anyways congratulations and I hope you get officially awarded! Almost there🎉
