The best students are those who are interested in the subject. They are self-motivated, so they absorb lessons like a sponge. It's very enriching to go beyond vocabularies and intonation and study the history of China. Yes, Chinese think about their ancient history in terms of dynasties. More doors of opportunities will open to expats with mastery of the Chinese language and an understanding of how the culture evolved through ages.

I really enjoyed this particular upload because of personal interests. Glad to see you and your dad having the time of your lives in my 'homeland' and speaking well of it in contrary to what the western media would have the world believe. If you keep learning to speak Chinese, I believe you will become more and more fluent! 👍👍 Yangshuo is very close to my hometown, and it only takes 40 minutes to get there by bullet train. My ancestral province is Guangdong, only visited once. Loved Yangshuo. It has the best of both worlds. I'm not into "Western brands" like Starbucks or McDonalds but the visual familiarity helps ground me in an otherwise bewilderingly ALIEN place. We visited Yangshuo in 2018 and we had a breakfast in a shop just like the one at the beginning of your video with all the great condiments, sitting at a low table with low stools with our guide. We found her - or rather she found us - just walking around on our first night just keeping panic at bay because there were no "motorer" to get back to the hotel. On that breakfast street alone, there were several Chinese language schools. Remarked to my daughter that this would be the perfect place to get fluent in Mandarin. Maybe one day! It's so beautiful.

@@georgeinjapan6583 I see, yeah it makes sense that all human languages have some deep similarities in terms of grammar because our logic sense is similar despite of country or race. I believe grammar is based on logic sense (such as every sentence in any language has subject, object, verb explicitly or implicitly), but language as a whole is based on culture. One can speak authentic language of a place only when he thinks like people in that place. I say place because it even applies to dialect. the accent of a dialect actually represent the personality/temper of the people in that region, every sound they make is a distillation of their culture.

Fantastic insight. Looks like a great learning environment for a student. They provide onsite accommodation there. I myself have been in contact for several months with Omeida through one of their reps, Anya. Obviously learning Mandarin Chinese is the primary reason. But it provides a convenient excuse to return to China itself by getting around an L tourist visa. At the moment, X1 type study visas are not being issued to people in my situation (from Australia). However that should change before the end of this year (assuming the Australian Government let's us out!) Your Chinese sounds good enough to be rated at A2 or nearly intermediate level. You'll thrive at Omeida.

Take learning the _Days of Week_ for example, in English it's _Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday._ In Chinese it's just 星期一,星期二,星期三,星期四,星期五,星期六,星期天。(Weekday1, Weekday2, Weekday3…Weekday6, Weekend) And learning the _Months of the Year_ is even more difficult. In English it's _January, February, March, April, May,……_ whereas in Chinese its 一月,二月,三月,四月,五月,六月 (First Moon/Month, Second Month, Third Month , Fourth Month, Fifth Month, Sixth Month) etc. Once you know how to count in Chinese and how to say week and month in Chinese, you're pretty much set. Whereas in English you have to memorize new words for days of the week and months of the year.
