Good recommendations! I'd like to add: 1. I know this is going to sound silly, but please bear with me. One tip I have for those who have never read through the entire Bible, especially brand new believers, is to first read a good children's Bible. Like The Jesus Storybook (Sally Lloyd-Jones) or The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden (Kevin DeYoung). This will help give a basic overview of the entire Bible so you see how the whole thing fits together, how it all connects, what the main storyline of the Bible is all about. It is also easy and breezy yet inspirational to read a good children's Bible because it whets your appetite to read the actual Bible! 2. Another tip is that I'd distinguish between a reader's Bible vs. a study Bible. If reading to see the forest, then a reader's Bible is a huge help. If reading to see the trees, then a study Bible is a huge help. But don't mix these two types of Bibles together. Instead focus on one or the other depending on your goals, not both together at the same time. Finally, for general reading, a reader's Bible is specifically designed to be aesthetically pleasing and conducive to a good reading experience, and there are tons of reader's Bibles in multiple translations. In short, I'd really recommend a reader's Bible when, of course, reading the Bible. 😇

Point 1 is not bad advice. There is not much point worrying about spoilers in the Bible.. When I first read the entire Bible from cover to cover, I'd already had Sunday School, church and some catechesis. It was kind of nice, because the stories and characters are already familiar. The Bible is so dense and can be overwhelming. There is probably not much point to get a study Bible these days. They are more expensive, and it's easier just to google things these days. Lot's of good software and websites too for free. A physical Bible is a must have though, you never know when the power might go out. Nothing like reading the Bible by candle light and silence

@@br.mGood points, and I agree with you! Personally speaking, I primarily use a reader's Bible for reading. I have several reader's Bibles in several different translations and some in mutli-volume editions. And I use Logos Bible Software for my in-depth studies along with other online resources (e.g. Parallel Plus, STEP Bible, TIPs Bible, the NET Bible's notes). I like the ESV Study Bible for a study Bible, but it's also available on Logos. In short, all my in-depth studies are primarily done on the computer.

17:38 How to Read the Bible for ALL it's Worth sounds good and no i haven't read it before. I will Google it cause I would like to know MORE about it. Yes, I listened to the end and I am still listening. You just mentioned Knowing Scripture by R C Sproul the second text I recognize but I don't have either. (Btw glad you are back to sharing on your Channel.) I do accept deliveries from Amazon which was something you required... if I understood correctly. Steve I would welcome an opportunity to receive any one of your suggested readings.

Thank you!! Yesterday I was called to begin leading a Bible study at a retirement home. It will be my first and will be a mix of Christian faiths, (Catholics, Lutherans, and others). Any advice for a Bible study where primary doctrine may differ and secondary doctrinal beliefs could vary widely?
@ClaimingChristianity11 ай бұрын
My only real advice is stick to straight Bible. Just tell um what’s in it. If they push back… its. It against you right. And tread lightly. Stick to the facts ya know.
@ClaimingChristianity11 ай бұрын
But it’ll be in the difficult side for sure.

Talking with Catholics is usually difficult. They don't really keep to scripture, considering the Bible as insufficient. Tend to have their heads full of strange ideas. Just stick to the Bible. Remember let scripture interpret scripture. Try to stay out of the weeds. This is ironic advice coming from me, but remember don't try to be a know it all. Ask questions too, look for answers together in Scripture.

Repetitive cycles that don't fit straight chronology, are "doubling down" on the previous iteration. It's called "chiasm" and lots of oral transmission was memorized that way - you could do the short version or keep going in detail every iteration (easier to remember for both parties, cutting it short means less cycles not cutting off the back half of a message). It's odd to read things that way, because we're not a culture of bards and heralds, the fact that we even have a monster compendium of canon available and portable is what's most odd... it's not written in OUR time/culture format. I try to picture it as a soap opera or Quentin Tarantino movie going back and forth from different perspectives (and somewhat out of chronological order), it makes sense then.

When I read the Bible, I just read it. In the back of my mind, I knew the Psalter is like a song book. Other than that I just read the Bible. Later I heard advice from people to read the Bible as though it is fiction. Even though it is non-fiction. Read it as you would read a fiction book, and get lost in it. The author wants to do things to you and you should let them. This video is about Bible study though I guess. People should have already read the Bible at least once before starting to study it
