Thank you so much for this video. I Iive in South Australia and I have to admit I did get confused with DK and Worsted and Aran.

Hello Cosy Rosie! Using fingering weight yarn for a scarf that I am working on while listening to your video. I do substitute or mix yarn weights in some projects so I can really appreciate the neat, lovely chart and the website's guide. I love bamboo cotton blends for wearables, and cotton or acrylic for amigurumis. Thank you for this one!

I’m with you on the bamboo/cotton - so much softer. Just like you, my fibre choices change depending on the project. ☺️

Lovely video! I have a request for an axolotl amigurumi but all of the patterns I'm finding are so small. If I were to use a size 6 bulky yarn instead of a size 4 worsted weight, do you think the features would transfer well? I obviously want it to be larger but I worry the shape and details will be wonky
@CosyRosieCrochetАй бұрын
The shape should stay the same and all the features would increase is size too with the larger yarn

Hi I've just found your video and have a bit of a challenge I hope you can help with. I've made a tension swatch for a pattern that calls for 18 st to 12 rows DC for a 10cmx10cm square. My 18 stitches measure 10cm but my rows are 2cm short. I am making a crochet dress for a 9 to 12mnth old and am not sure what to do... if I was short on both I would go to a larger hook - I've not come across this before can you give any ideas on how to manage the pattern
@CosyRosieCrochet4 ай бұрын
If the pattern has a schematic or measurements given for the length, you can work the stitches as the pattern states and make additional rows to reach the measurement of size you want to make. I talk about this more here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3OzeGdtbaaVn80 Let me know how you get on with the pattern

Funny you should come out with this as I saw a dress that I wanted to make for my granddaughter. Pattern release was Friday. I wanted to be ready so I ordered the yarn in the correct color and was ready to go. When I purchased the pattern I found out they used a size 1 wool yarn. I purchased a size 4 cotton yarn. I’m no math wizard so I can do the guage but not always sure how to do the math calculations to figure out how to proceed. So my answer was to use a size 1 cotton blend yarn that I had and make the pattern. Then using the cotton yarn, size 4, to make it the same size as the other using comparison holding it up to the other piece. May not need the best idea but hey it’s working for me and she will end up with two dresses.

That’s a great way to do it! I am planning a video to help adjust sizes once you have your gauge so as soon as it’s ready I’ll let you know 😊

Hello Rosie ! I wanted to follow a cardigan pattern I found on KZbin , however the yarn she used is discontinued and was a size 4 . The yarn I have is a size 3. I love the yarn is there anyway to make it work?

Do you think it’s possible to translate a pattern from 4 weight to 1 weight? I have the cutest 1 weight yarn I want to use for this beanie pattern but it doesn’t seem like it will work out 🙁
@CosyRosieCrochet11 ай бұрын
That’s quite a big difference. You could try holding multiple strands of the yarn together. I have details on the number of strands needed to create different yarn weights here: www.cosyrosieuk.co.uk/a-guide-to-multi-strand-crochet

Iam crocheting a baby matinee coat I only have aran yarn the pattern asks dk can I just use a smaller hook ?
@CosyRosieCrochet Жыл бұрын
The coat may come out firmer and more stiff. You can try a smaller hook when working up your gauge or the first few rows to see how it feels. Let me know how you get on

I have dk yarn and a aran pattern.Can I just make a bigger size please?
@CosyRosieCrochet Жыл бұрын
I’d recommend making a gauge swatch to check the stitch counts in the pattern - in theory you can just make a bigger size but you’d need to check the size of the pieces as you make them based on the pattern.

I buy some yarns from Ice yarn and they don't have gauge info on it. Sad
@CosyRosieCrochet6 ай бұрын
If you don't have a yarn label, or it's missing the yarn size/weight - you can also use the wraps per inch method to help determine which size it is and match it to another yarn that way.

The pattern I'm wanting to make takes a medium weight yarn with a 5mm hook but the yarn i have is a light weight yarn, the only medium yarn i have is yellow and I don't want a yellow hat. I don't know what to do
@CosyRosieCrochet11 ай бұрын
The only way to swap out for a pattern like that would be to create a gauge swath and recalculate the stitches. If you're making the hat for yourself, you could try following the pattern, ensuring you make the crown large enough before stopping the increases. It's hard to know if that will work without knowing the pattern. Check out my hat size guide for more info: www.cosyrosieuk.co.uk/crochet-hat-size-chart

I'm so confused. I have a pattern calling for weight 3 yarn and I'm using weight 4. I thought that would make the project bigger but it's smaller!! It says to use 10mm hook too, im very confused

I would think the same as you! Did you make a swatch to check your gauge? This video helps to calculate which size to follow when changing yarn weight: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3OzeGdtbaaVn80

It’s also worth mentioning that meterage/yardage compared to its ball weight is important info to keep in mind so we don’t run out of yarn or purchase too much oh wait there’s no such thing as buying too much yarn, right? 😂
