@@crazysexycool180 just because a metal alloy is softer than another doesnt mean that it cant damage it. when youre talking about tolerances of 1/10,000 of an inch as you do with cams & cranks, using a wire brush is one of the last things you want to contact lobe surfaces. might as well sandblast the crank while your at it. how would you properly clean a cam? hint: not with a wire brush spinning at a couple thousand rpm. with all the tiny metal shavings youve created just close it back up & run the engine. all that loose metal will clean everything nice & bright in no time...

Look at the context. Cheap car. Well-used. Likely that the customer doesn't have a lot of money, right? So our guy is trying some unconventional methods (doesn't make them wrong) to save the customer from having to buy a new head+ many hours labor The results speak for themselves. This isn't a formula 1 car. If a cam lobe had a few microns wear from the brush (and that's even doubtful), but the car ran much improved than from when the customer brought it in, what difference does it make in the REAL world?

Use an oil suitable for your engine. Some oils do sludge but if you have a low oil pressure drop the sump and check the oil pump.Modern oils will keep your engine clean if changed hot and regular

Its suppose to be washed by diesel and the tool you can use is hand brush which does not have chances to break a part its threads inside the engine,(eg tooth brush) unlike wire scrubber with machine, it breaks alot of its particals here and there. drop down pan should be washed as well. also throttle should be washed same way.. done that in many cars and it worked always, but you need to use flushing oil twice aswell.. later put new engine oil and oil filter..

There probably isn't a part 2 because the engine spun a bearing and died and wouldn't look good on his channel. Any time the oil light is on you need to drop the pan and clean out the pickup if you expect the engine to live. You're a hack if you expect to just pour shit in the engine and expect it to clean itself when it gets that bad.

The blue lid oven cleaner works the best on that caked oil try it, it's way cheaper. I wash the outside of my engines with it. And I use it on the inside of the engine when I'm rebuilding them to make everything look like new again

My mk4 turbo makes the same sound when you pull dipstick and try to pull oil cap. Cause I have the pcv valve touted through the catch can with a few one way check valves. So it acts like a Venturi sucking out any air and blow by.

In the UK I've used lots of dodgy garages and so-called mechanics, bandit garages are around everywhere. I have learned through experience to use certified garages recommended by the RAC and AA, which are national breakdown organisations. Always quality work, and my cars became hand-me-downs for my adult children. I recommend to everyone to trust your major breakdown companies . I wonder if this bloke is accredited?

people do not use a wire brush on an air tool, because at high rmp's the wire can come off the brush and into the engine. you get just one of those wire's between the bearing and the crankshaft you're in big trouble, that wire will eat into the bearing and the crank.lay down paper towel's to stop anything from going down into the engine. then take your time and clean it, use a toothbrush or a wire brush by hand, and watch than no wire is getting into the engine.alway clean both side's of the valve cover, when it's off the engine is better.when working no a engine fast cleaning is not always better, take your time do it right.

Probably will. But this is a well abused car that already has some scoring. Not a brand new engine. This engine is so abused it will probably die soon regardless of what he does to it. Anything he can do here is an improvement to what it was before lol. I do believe hes taken all that into account. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do any of this to a new engine.

Good job, As for the know it all about the wire brush on cam lobes...... Get a grip. No way will the wire brush damage the lobes. Maybe if the wire brush was on surface for ten minutes even then minimal damage. This guy knows his stuff, gets the job DONE RIGHT. Top end clean, bottom end clean. Change oil filter, new oil, engine flush, dump oil, change oil filter, new oil, engine flush, dump oil, change oil filter, new oil. Internally engine pristine. Very good Job.

I've try this before cleaning using screwdriver then blow it using air compressor... then refill new oil and filter... start the engine more worse...the valve ticking very loud... until I remove the out the oil pan, found out all the gunk debris clog the oil pump filter and more on oil pan... So I remove the oil pump filter a clean with kerosene and blow with air pressure.. install everything and engine back to normal

When an engine has no oil pressure you're not supposed to run it until the problem is resolved. It's especially stupid to rev it or drive it with no oil pressure. This engine was already toasted before you flushed it.

Oh My Goodness. I cannot believe what I have just seen and I had to watch it all the way through to make sure. Whatever you do fellow KZbinrs - do not follow one single word of the "advice" given in this video. Read all the comments below - I heartily concur with them. One telling point, the guy changed the cover gaskets which were old, true, but would have continued to work just fine provided they weren't messed about with - and ignored the broken cam chain guide?? In all honesty, which do you think is more important? Also, when started up after the rebuild I nearly leapt off my seat with the racket the engine was making!! And when the oil was dropped? I'm no chemist but it looked like 50% oil, 50% crank bearing material coming out!! I feel sorry for the current and any future owners of this poor Kia.

I did that with my 200k prius. Except I used Berrymans chem dip. I let it idle for 15mins. let it sit a week. Then came back and idled it again for 15mins. Then I did the oil and filter change. Cleaned it out very well. but not completely. Ive gone another 20k miles and no issues yet. Runs better actually.

That was a DRY start! That hurt! Folks this is a video of WHAT NOT TO DO! Those cam bearings had to get damaged. If the chain had that much slack that it was slapping the cover, its time for a new chain. Im sure now thus engine is DEAD. Also invest in a tripod! Most of the video is you trying to talk over your air tool.

1) Brake cleaner has chloride in it. If you use it to clean your mating surfaces before assembly then the chloride will eat up the gasket. 2) proper torque on rubber valve cover gaskets will cause then to wear prematurely and leak--use a torque wrench.

well said, but you forgot, they make non chloride brake cleaner. also your correct about the torque wrench, but there again the new-style of gaskets that are sold aftermarket for the valve covers are non torque gaskets.There type gaskets have metal shims to avoid over torqing on the gasket.

Brake cleaner's fine for cleaning gasket surfaces. What you don't wipe off from the cleaning, it just tends to evaporate. I used it a thousand times and never had a problem. By the time you go to put on the gasket all the brake cleaner's long gone.

la totally awesome contains 2-butoxy ethanol i get it, its a solvent, and a good one for oil and sludge. the only thing i would do differently is to not run the engine, but to use a pump instead; to push it thru the system. Sort of a dialysis machine for cars in which the adapter would screws into the automobile oil filter hole.

Instead of brake cleaner buy a quart of KREEN and put in a spray bottle and wet top end down then lay valve covers back on to reduce evaporation. Repeat a couple times let soak overnight if able, next day reinstall valve covers start engine let idle for 15 minutes then change oil. I had amazing results doing this.

Easily cleaned with cellulosic thinner and hard brush. Brake pad cleaners will ruin the valve tires.

My 03 Open Vectra had some small knocking noise(lifters maybe), i just added little bit of ATF to the oil, drove the car for like 1tkm (or 620 miles) and changed the oil/filter. Oil was quite black and there was small chuncks. The noise was mostly gone and gonna do the same again soon, gonna remove the oil pan aswell next time (maybe should have done it during the 1st time but whatever)

You can also run ATF on idle. Next oil change, drain oil, change oil filter and fill up with ATF. Run on idle and idle only for 15 minutes. Drain add oil and new oil filter. Next oil change should be @ 1000 miles since you will have had ATF residue inside engine. You can also add half quart of ATF on new oil. Run it for no more than couple hundred miles. To keep things Cost effective. Buy Oil, ATF and oil filter @ Walmart/ Supertech brand. You get quality @ a very low price. Note: ATF has detergents and does an excellent job @ cleaning.

Oh my GOD!!!!!!! Did you really start the motor with brake cleaner in the crankcase and oil pan 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦. This destroys the motor, and brake cleaner renders the oil that's already in the engine useless because it's a solvent. so you're basically using the brake cleaner to lubricate the motor. You're right that flushes the engine alright .. flushes the engine of any life it had remaining. Also there are seals deep inside the engine. Brake cleaner destroys those seals. you should never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever flush an engine with brake clean. Hahahaha. Is this is a troll?

@@crazysexycool180 the damage caused by your "repair" will at least get you a possible return customer. It didn't leave fixed, it left with a different issue. You put brake cleaner into it and used a wire brush on the cam lobes among other things. It was a terribly neglected engine so whether it was worse than the damage already done is debatable, however, I wouldn't want this procedure being performed on my engine, especially an aluminum block.

hi i have a toyota vvti 1nfze petrol engine. bought it and took it for a full service had a slight knocking sound before and was misdiagnosed for a timing chain that needed replacing. They didnt flush the engine it now it has the oil light on now sound is louder even sounds like a diesel engine a loud knock.Engine still starts. What should i do? Flush it or not or it could be a rod bearing thats worn out??

you were screwed, sounds like they did not diagnose the correct fault, or did they? When you had the car back was it sounding smooth, if so then they were probably correct and the fault you now have is a different fault. It happens, sometimes shit follows shit and it is time to dump the car and move on.

Well from what you have described it does not sound good and a New Engine could be an option, but you failed to mention what did it sound like after the Timing Chain was changed, by the way I am a retired Engineer and in my 45yrs I have never heard of a Chain being a problem, a Chain Adjuster, yes! that can cause the Chain to RATTLE, but this noise sounds nothing like an Injector not working properly or a Camshaft, or a Conrad Bearing or Main Bearing on the Crank, so what did it sound like when you had it changed??? Changing the oil, or flushing, will NEVER in a MILLION YEARS get rid of an Engine Knock. I did have a knock once that sounded like the Main Bearings on the Crankshaft, but with a stethoscope it turned out to be coming from the lower Front Crankshaft Pulley and was indeed the V Belt Pulley that drives the Generator [alternator] etc Keith Spence Eng

I would remove the cylinder head and oil pan and thoroughly clean them.

Valve cover, regular gas and a plastic brush works best, lil cost.

When this has take place...it's too late with this metod. You have to take the engine apart and clean it part for part!

my 15 years old car does not have any sludge or gunk on valve cover i change the valve gasket thats why i saw the cover even the camshaft was so clean changing the oil every 6 months or 6000 km which ever come first I used semi synthetic oil remember prevention is better than cure

Hi from Australia. That is the best diagnosis/ flush i have seen. I have chased that very same sound for years, flush gone, return, flush gone. but your rockercovers off and vac and parts cleeaner,,, that is the answer,

Brake cleaner is generally expensive Naphtha in an aerosol can. You could buy a large amount of Naptha for far less. Maybe purchase a can of actual engine flush from someone like BG since you can easily make your money back from the customer and have a produce designed for the job. Plus you save the little tokens that come in the can and the distributor will give you perks in exchange for the tokens!

Sometimes the best thing you can do is switch to synthetic, drive it 1000 miles and change it then. Slowly up the frequency until it’s clean.
