Ok here is a little tip for those that may watch these videos but aren't yet Beekeepers. I went by John and Corinnes store today to visit, glean some always valuable advice, and look at what they had new. I took a good friend with me that never has had any interest in beekeeping and probably never will. He was amazed at all the "non beekeeping " stuff that is in the store. He made the comment that he saw a ton of gift ideas for his wife. If you have never been in the store do yourself a favor and stop by. The store is gorgeous front to back. They have clothing, soaps, lotions, decorative items, different flavor honeys from producers across the valley that would be great for the gourmet cook to add a distinctive regional flavor to sauces and dressings. They have rice planted, harvested and packaged by Ralston Family Farm in the Atkins bottoms and speaking of the bottoms you can also pick up some locally grown and shelled pecans from Paw Paws pecan farm. It is also a great place to pick up a bucket of Juanita's Cashew Brittle. They also have sore throat remedies and I even saw some beautiful quilts hanging on the wall. The point is you can stop in and pick up your wife or girlfriend a very unique beautiful gift that you won't find anywhere else. And heck,while you are there, with spring just around the corner pick up a starter hive. Bet you can't have just one....

Just a note, Ultra Bee does not contain 58% pollen as you stated, but contains 58% "crude protein", which is usually made of soy, corn, or other plant proteins, processed grain by-products, and roughage products. Ultra Bee contains no natural pollen.

Got the 10lb tub and the bees are bringing in pollen from other places and not hardly touching the pollen sub. Really good weather here in north west alabama henbit is in full bloom and several other flowers. I'm ready for a nectar flow to start in a week or so if not sooner. Enjoyed the information and as always RTBBF. ❤🐝
@CentralBeekeepersSupply2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. Do you feel like they may have quit the pollen substitute because they're getting abundant natural pollen?
@michaelfike75422 жыл бұрын
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply yes i think they are getting plenty of natural pollen.

Could you please tell me what’s your thoughts on dealing with hive beetles??? They are a huge problem for me so I’m gonna try the dry sub outside the hive in hopes the beetles don’t get worse. Thanks so much for the info!!
@CentralBeekeepersSupply2 жыл бұрын
Hive beetles are the scourge of any beekeeper's life. Hard to keep them totally away. I think you're doing right by keeping the dry sub outside the hive. I'd also recommend using beetle towels, as they've worked really well for us. We've mentioned them in several of our videos, but you can find them on our website at www.centralbeekeeperssupply.com/online-store/Small-Hive-Beetle-Towel-10-Half-Sheets-p183960747. Thanks for the comment!

The forecast is 70 degrees where I live tomorrow. Can I crack open the lid and put in a pollen patty without hurting anything?
@CentralBeekeepersSupply2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. No dangers of hurting the bees at 70 degrees. #RTBBF

We don't actually carry those on our website. If you'll call the store, we'd be happy to ship one to you. 479-968-4044 Thanks for asking!

John...Do you allow your bees to gather all the dry pollen they want or do you try to limit how much of the Ultra Bee you put out? Some one told me not to put out more then 1/4 lb to 1/2 lb per colony but I have no idea if that is correct or not. Thanks
@CentralBeekeepersSupply2 жыл бұрын
I have seen honeybees become pollen bound. A similar problem with too much nectar and becoming "honey bound", however bees foraging in pollen december, january, february, typically don't have enough hours and warm temps to get pollen bound. So, you're safe to feed them at the rate which best fits your program.

Can I use soy flour as a protein base in pollen a supplement, it contains 49.5% protein
@CentralBeekeepersSupply2 жыл бұрын
Although I haven't done this, I do know that bees will carry grain dust from cattle and chicken troughs, and it is protein, so I don't think it would be a problem. We're interested in this, so please let us know how your bees responded!

What's that blue thing looks like a chicken feeder
@CentralBeekeepersSupply Жыл бұрын
It's a pollen feeder! We don't currently have one on our website, but if you're interested in more info just give us a shout at the store.
