I grew up fishing with my dad. Never paid any mind to what was what, but always loved being out on the water, and the rush of reeling something in. I’ve recently relocated to Florida after 8 long years in Colorado and eager to really learn the sport. Your the first content of fishing that I’ve subscribed too. You make it look really easy and the instructions are perfect. I’m struggling with rigs...

To rig frozen shrimp, try to use a circle hook or O'Shaughnessy hook. Put the hook in at the chin/neck area of the shrimp's head and run the hook through his entire body, coming out in the tough area near the spine in his tail. The shrimp can slide up the line past the eye of the hook a bit this way or can slide down and curl around the curve of the hook. This way the entire shrimp is hooked and stays on better during long casts. This also works with bucktail jigs for redfish, etc, but you only use half a shrimp body for those.

I only needed to do this briefly. I'd like to know where all of the complainers' videos are, so we can watch those, too. 😋 Extra thanks for being respectful to the fish and not just throwing them back like I've seen in other videos. 😨☠️ We all need to keep the ecosystem healthy so we can all enjoy the sport.

Hey tailored tackle. Thanks for a great video with awesome info. I just wanted to also share some more info for beach rigging. You can make your own pompano rig base with 50lbs mono and then attach your hook likes and sinker lines to the base with 20lb mono using perfection loops. The 50lb is tied directly to your braid so if there’s a snag and you have to break off, the week point is on the 20lb and you can quickly and easily retie The hook or sinker and get back fishing. Luke Simonds with SaltStrong did a great video showing good beach fishing rig for rocks. Definitely look it up and do a shout out on a future video If you like the rig.

We go into depth on Rod/Reel in our free ebook tailoredtackle.com/how-to-surf-fish-ebook-guide-to-surf-fishing . It somewhat depends on where you are and what you are going for but my typical go too is a 10 Ft Medium Heavy with a 8000 reel a Penn Pursuit III in this size is an affordable and durable option www.amazon.com/Penn-Pursuit-III-Spinning-Combo/dp/B07GKBF35C we are currently designing one in the same price range but with a higher quality rod.
@DarkSaruman4 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate the effort that went into the making of the video. However, this video is not a REAL beginner's video. - How do I cast the rod? - What to do when I catch a fish? - What are my easy options of storing a fish once I catch it? As a beginner I'm not really gonna understand all the different hooks and baits. Just recommend a general one and I'll learn through experience. I'd say a video where you show a process of catching a fish and showing all the steps from start to finish when the fish safely in a container would be the best beginner's video in my opinion.
@tailoredtackle85454 жыл бұрын
Totally understand where you are coming from. Trying to keep things under 30 min is tough for beginner videos. I am working on an entire absolute beginner fishing series which is the prelude to our beginner focus videos. This one isn't necessarily how to fish for beginners but how to surf fish assuming that you know the basics of fishing and want to learn how to specifically fish in the surf. What table are you using for cutting the bait?
@tailoredtackle85453 жыл бұрын
It was actually a little beach table for food/drinks that came with the old beach cart my brother bought ages ago. I would recommend just cutting them on top of your cooler if you bring one. The other thing I do all the time is cut the in the wet sand where the knife goes through into the sand. The thinking here is that you limit the amount of gear you have to lug and while its really bad on the knife, in reality the salt and bait and fileting on the beach absolutely ruins any knife by the end of the season. Therefore I just buy and inexpensive beach knife for 7.99 each season. I have learned my lesson on nice knives I have done everything I can to maintain it and its just an infinite battle that you are unlikely to win.

@tailoredtackle85454 жыл бұрын
Everything but frozen bait. You have all of the rigs and terminal tackle that we actually fished with in this video. I recommend getting started using the Fish Finder rig with the 2 Oz pyramid weight and the smaller circle hook when you just getting started. This is a good setup for shrimp, squid, or a small chunk of cut bait. The kit comes with a book that explains all of this if it is sounding a little like gibberish. You do have lures in the kit but thats for when you start to really advance on the beach. I would recommend starting with frozen cutbait like in the video.

Cant believe you threw away half your squid, in fact cutting up your squid instead of fishing with it whole and yeah rod in the sand. Your drag should be set prior to catching a fish and you should never adjust your drag during a fight unless the fish has taken a ton of line and you need to lessen off due to line creating drag. Oh yeah you should hook your slabs a the gut cavity end as this is what the fish hone in on.
