The wars fought in this universe are fought with modern/concept air tech, futuristic tanks… and canonically ww2 small arms, like Ronin, the mercenary SOF unit, uses stens, Thompsons and other random ww2 weapons commonly used by paratroopers (if I remember correctly, they also had some FG-42s)

These videos remain a staple in my sense of humor. The fact that everyone saw this impossibly advanced and devastating high-energy round turn the very air it ripped through into spiraling plasma and immediately started screaming "THE WIZARD, HE CASTS AGAIN!" as if it were a perfectly genuine and rational threat during this sci-fi military operation is a great example of "rolling with the bit." Fun fact about the BAR its still technically used. The M240B also known as the FN MAG is just a BAR action turned upside down and made to feed from a belt mechanism derived from the MG42. There is also the HCAR modernized BAR as well.
