When you said, “you have to go day by day”, I appreciated that. That’s definitely true, and that idea has helped me so much throughout my first semester of grad school. Each day, I work until I am satisfied with what I was able to get done that day. Looking ahead towards large projects and presentations that loom is oftentimes harmful. Of course, it is good to be aware of due dates and presentation days, etc… but the overall impression I get when doing that is negative. It helps to take each day one at a time, working hard and also taking care of yourself as you go. This helped me to maintain some semblance of sanity while also remaining focused and ultimately being successful on my assignments.

Hey Caleb, that's a great mindset - you have to be happy with your own progress, not what other's expect of you because in the end, when you work to meet other's goals or expectations you will almost always fall short and it breeds resentment and unhappiness. Also exactly, take things in chunks because otherwise you will just go bananas looking at your laundry list of tasks from 30,000 feet above. All the best and thank you for watching!

I am at the end of the first year of my master's program, and I'm feeling overwhelmed. Although I love what I do, it is very difficult to keep up with everything that needs to be done. Now, I'm thinking about how to start my thesis. This video made me feel that I am not alone. Thank you so much!

I don’t know why this video is not the top but this speaks to my experience so much. I really like to take a break but I fear me taking a break will only intensify my experience.

I took a break and thought I was prepared but wowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowow. Thankfully I had the foresight to start therapy at the start of my semester and that was key

Thank you for watching, I am glad therapy has been helping you! That's a big step, recognizing you may need help and then actually going out and seeking it. Hoping that you may continue to heal and have been able to start the New Year off well.

Thank you for watching! I hope the Masters is going well and you're learning all sorts of crazy cool data science applications :). One day at a time. PS - you're probably a better coder than me by a longshot but if you're stumped, ChatGPT has been a really helpul learning tool, I've found!!

@@BrockAnth Thankyou Brock! I literally went for two months on my first grad semester on 2-5 hours of sleep. I'm still hanging in there. I finally got in to see my doc and they gave me something to help me get on a good sleep schedule for awhile. I appreciate your videos, I haven't watched your latest but will. I am grateful for your perspective!

Brock, Wassup man. I just got into a grad-program in LA for Occupational Therapy. Dealing with a lot of emotions and hit a wall while I was studying. I randomly found your video messing around on KZbin. Just want to say, thanks man. It's not always easy, even if you look calm on the surface, for anyone to deal with this much stress. Your words were like jumper cables to my head. I will share this will my cohort. Keep fighting the good fight brother. See you all at the finish line!

Hey Luiz, thank you for sharing. Exactly, you never know what someone is going through based on what you see at a surface level. I wish you all the best, keep your head above water!

Great vid. I'm finishing my PharmD in California and still struggle to fit in with this program and career path. The anxiety can also show up in self-doubt. Thanks for the encouragement and hopefully people can take those moments of self care.

Thank you for watching Daniel hoping that this New Year, you are able to feel more at ease with everything, but if not, that is okay too and remember that it's never too late to make a change - prioritize your health, always.

I’m doing my masters in Economics and Econometrics as well. I’m an international student so the homesickness, anxiety etc is starting to kick in. I study 4 hours a day on average ( weekdays) and more if I have less classes on the day. But I feel so dumb here. I try and push myself a lot but I still feel like I’m not trying enough.

im a masters in comp sci student, very stressed. but gonna channel all stress into work. gonna push as hard as i possibly can and earn my 4.0 this semester. even if i have to study 100 hours a week
@BrockAnth Жыл бұрын
Hey Vincent, make sure to also take time for yourself and to figure out just why you're pushing for the 4.0. A few years out of grad school and I can tell you that in the end, what matters is your own health and not that number on a PDF of your transcript. Godspeed.

i just came in this semester in uk, for masters as internatonal student and i was like it wouldnt be that hard comparing to batcheolars oh boy i the span of 1 1/2 months , it seems like a sinking ship for me, all the people around me all depressed because of the results ( senior) then exam pattern all different, assignments are all huge ass reports, lack of communication, dont know what to do and what not what to study and what not, feels like my inch inch part is pulling apart .and top of that part time job as well to sustain myself, every sanity of mine is slowly fading away but proud not to smoke till now and wont ever my lifetime. but yeah all these mised emotions just pile up like now,one on the top of another, home sickness, pressure of failure, grades. Dayum its taking a huge toll on me.

I am sorry to hear how hard it has been. Please reach out to any support systems your school offers or call your family (if they are supportive) and try to get these things of your chest. Lean on your colleagues too, because you're all in this together. If all else fails, I also recommend ensuring you do physical activity which can help improve your anxiety levels and also your sleep. Running and weight lighting have been a huge game changer for me - it doesn't have to be a 10km run and you do not need to deadlit 350lbs, but if you can strike a balance and do resistance training, I promise you will feel better.
