I moved to Tennessee 2 years ago to a off grid spot 20 miles away from a small town of 500 or less. Went solar, orchard, chickens, pigs, etc not only because of these issues but also so no matter what they do or allow I stand a great chance we'll over 3 years of stored food on site not counting homestead. My point is I did it you can too.

@@LoneStarPrepping panels can be in the home out of sight . I KEAP mine inside in 2 rooms . Yes I nead to move furniture a bit . And I am able to KEAP up with min power neads . Upper windows have solor film . They just fill up batteries. From these I charge solor generators . Lower windows have security film . The real point is not to be seen . Now if you out in the boondocks you can be more relaxed I guess . But I live in the suburbs on edge of the country . 10 miles from large population center . I am lucky to have a well that puts out soft water and is not on city records . It is set to run on 110 . Rehabbed the home . It was abandoned . Gutted it redid all electric wires plumbing and beefed up wooden frame work . Now have 8 inch wall studs 2x 6 door frames roof is up to Hurricane code then some . I am in northwest Ohio. . Sump crock set to level 1 ft deap than dry season . 2 ways for water to flow out of it . Outside French drain or inside to daisy chain 55 gallon water drums . Took lots time to do this . But my skill set was home building and a plumber my friend is a electrician . The other a good auto mechanic. Together we have done a lot of Mc Guiver home and camper trailer rebuilds . . A off grid 16x 20 two story shed built know fully livable . Has it own power grid . And a well water access . It is still being improved. Easy sleep 6

Just a note about golf courses, many of them, not all but many, have their own wells for irrigation of the courses. It may be a good idea to find out. Because a fresh source of water will be like gold. Now most likely it will also have a pumping system but maybe a large generator wil be able to power it in a grid down situation just an idea to hold onto and maybe have a backup plan just in case...

Over fifty here…we’ll over; 77 in fact. I’ve been prepping for around fifteen years. After retirement we left the Houston area and moved to daughter and son in law’s ranch. We have a small herd (30) of cows, chickens, several stocked ponds and a decent sized garden. At my age, I can’t do everything I used to do, but I usually figure a way to get it done. Appreciate your insight.

We prep pretty much exclusively for emp since that tends to cover almost every other potential issue. I keep about 18 months worth of food so that if I have to skip a gardening season we will eat until the next garden harvest. We plant more of our gardening space to feed our small livestock (chickens, Muscovy ducks, meat rabbits) and will bring those animals inside rather than allow them to be picked off by people who can't figure out that eggs every day beats a quick chicken dinner ... same for rabbit litters and clutches of ducks. One litter of rabbits will fill enough pint jars to last us a month, as an example (and yes, I'm well aware you can't rely solely on rabbit meat!!). We hatch out two incubators of chicken eggs to raise for meat as well, and Muscovy ducks provide red meat very similar to beef that is almost completely fat free ... some sort of fat must be added. We have a hand pump for our shallow well along with a rain water cachement system, a three bucket filtration setup, Sawyer and Lifestraw filters along with a Berkey. I built a combo two burner rocket stove/grill/earthen oven/hot and cold smoker on the end of our porch that is under a tin roof and it can be used year round. For heating we have a wood burning stove that can also be used for cooking during the winter. We added a hot water system to it. For cooling, we put in a passive system similar to what is used to control airflow and humidity in root cellars (which I would love, but with a 3-5 foot water table on our property is a no-go) by cutting 6 inch holes on one side of our small home into the floor, and the same on the opposite side into the ceiling. These have 6 inch pvc pipe covered with screen and hardware cloth, and we use pvc end caps to open/close them as necessary. It isn't AC, but it drops the interior temp about 20 degrees with no power required. Our two interior walls are floor to ceiling food storage with paneling doors attached with piano hinges. Yes, it requires moving furniture, but it keeps food from being visible to any casual eye. We cut two holes in our floor, dropped in two chest freezers that have been insulated and have air venting, and use them as mini root cellars. We have regular toilets and a back flow valve on the city pipes, but we also have a full sawdust toilet with totes full of sawdust stacked outside. Sawdust is generally free if you have a sawmill nearby and are willing to shovel it yourself. In addition, we have a contained barrel system that will generate compost and is considered 'code' compliant in many states. Sanitation and diseases such as cholera, ecoli, typhoid, etc. will be one of the biggest killers after an emp. Most people have NO clue about handling human waste, and I would urge EVERYONE to purchase a book titled 'The Humanure Handbook'. It is less than $20 and will walk you through setting up a safe system no matter where you live. You can generally set up any of them for under $100. I would also urge you to make sure you have a back flow valve on your sewer line because everyone that uses water to flush their toilet after the city water pumps shut down will flood homes lower than them with sewage. If that happens to your home, you will have to move. It is better to spend the $40 bucks on the valve now and pay a plumber if necessary (check your local codes to see if that is required) than to have your home permanently contaminated and unlivable. Make sure you have some bleach (preferably powder form) that you can use for rinsing dishes and hands as well. Look into family cloth rather than wasting valuable space storing toilet paper. Stock up on soap that you can safely use with gray water for a garden and the means to wash your clothing. That can be as simple as a bucket and new toilet plunder, or a pair of old timey wash tubs and a wringer. Buy clothesline and clothespins!! Invest in a camping solar shower (or several depending on the size of your family) and designate a place you can place them and use them whether that is indoors or outdoors. If you are getting water from a river/stream you should still filter it for the shower. Your skin absorbs more toxins than if you were eating/drinking them. Our windows have security film, we have placed several 6 foot planters that have a base filled with concrete and rebar to hold decorative plants and stop vehicles from ramming into our home. We also have thorny stuff planted in areas that we can't see from inside, and our perimeter fence is planted in blackberries, acacia, wisteria, and roses ... over cattle panels. It does require yearly upkeep to keep the wisteria in check, but it also keeps pretty much anything from coming over or through that fence line. We have both electric and non electric alarms that cover our garden, coop, and front yard areas. This summer we have plans to harden the wall area under windows and on the sides of our doors. We have alarms on those, and have swapped out the latch plates and screws on the doors. While we do have minimal solar, our goal was more towards requiring as little electric as possible. We have more non-electric tools and kitchen gadgets than anything requiring electric. I can safely can on my rocket burners, and we have both electric and non-electric dehydrating items (and hundreds of Tattler lids in addition to regular lids). I would anticipate that it may be close to 3 years after an emp attack before somewhat normal power is restored, possibly longer. The other thing we do have is communications ~ ham, cb, short wave, and walkie talkies that every local family member and friend also have. We have backups now for most of it that are in a faraday cage along with backups of our hard drives, batteries, etc. We don't have a cell phone, just a landline. Communication as well as information is something I consider vital, so we have a good bit of that. Stock up a first aid closet ~ not a kit. Think about how many gauze bandages you would go through in a single week for any large wound and buy 10 times what you think you might need. Add in several trauma bandages, at least one tourniquet, quik clot, zip tie closures, alcohol, peroxide, iodine, a suture kit, a dental kit, and a birthing kit in addition to the normal ointments, bug stuff, and bandaids. Last, books. How to books. DIY books. Gardening books. Livestock care books. Home canning and hunting books. Etc. Don't download them to a device ~ buy the books! Stay safe out there!

@@LoneStarPrepping We're in our 60s now and have been living on disabled/military retirement for almost 2 decades. We're living on a triple lot at the edge of a town with a population of 9000+. We manage this because we have consistently lived well below our means. The only real reason I see for most people not being able to do these things is their priorities. We choose where we live and what we spend our money on. In all honesty, what we have right now is far less than the small farm we had before my in-laws needed help ~ but we incorporated all of our prepping that we could when we moved here. Most of our preps are cached with no directions or locations listed anywhere in our home or on our property, and only my husband and myself know the locations. Whether or not we survive is in God's hands, but what we have isn't going to benefit anyone that doesn't know how to garden, maintain various systems, raise/care for livestock, or have the years we've put into learning various skills. No one can 'take' those things, and without that knowledge, the most anyone would gain from our demise is a few days/weeks of food. When it is gone, they are back to whatever place they were when they show up. We're both disabled btw, so most of what we do takes longer (and wow I envy the equipment you had/used!).

@@LoneStarPrepping First off let me say that having warning about events ahead of time ..is priceless!! Prep includes cleaning up objects that could fly away. Stocking up on can goods and snacks for the kids all summer during the season, but we were totally unprepared in my opinion, for the LONG Haul! Our family dynamic at the time consisted of 5 children, 6 adults+1 that came to visit and got stuck here for 2 weeks, and 7 dogs. With stores shut down and no gas stations open nearby, the generator went down after a week. We had one family member driving to Mississippi state line to get us gas..just ridiculous..and then we needed cash. That was gone in the second week. The heat in the home was ridiculous so we practically camped in the shade out back and we had to do laundry until we ran out of soap. hint: laundry items and personal care items are NECESSARY! National guard provided cases of water and MRE's which was great because by the 3rs week we were running out of food . Ice was also provided by national guard . We cook out a lot in the summer so thank goodness we had extra charcoal for the grill! The plan we made was use all of the freezer food and cook out until we no longer could use the generator for the freezer ( we've been forwarded since Katrina in 2005) . Just so many things that we prepped for worked like a charm . All summer long we buy double dog food regularly and we had enough for 4 weeks. It did get a little iffy after that and we had started to ration slowly after the 2nd week. I actually had laundry drying on the fences for all that time . Everyone was prepped, even the kids , when you showered with the hose you will wash your current clothing at the same time and hang it out to dry. And the drippy soapy clothes (lol) was actually hung in some places over areas of the veg garden ! Water was scarce and for keeping hydrated! 4 1/2 weeks..we had relief . So much more ...we learned so much more, that I ever thought possible! #1 - learn to work as a TEAM! And then stay calm .

We don't have the same family dynamic this year as 2 years ago for Hurricane Ida, but we are just as ready with more of things we know we'll need .( Hand held can opener) (cash) ( gas cans always kept full and rotated) more canned goods less dry goods that need water) and we now have 2 shade canopies and the tree out back is gone for firewood. Added a screened tent because finding bug spray was useless when store shut down. and many more cases of water water and water!

SPOT ON SIR!!! I think you're the first KZbin prepper I've seen that actually says the truth about EMP and other societal collapse scenarios. Bugging in may not be an option! So many Preppers think that stockpiling years worth of food and supplies in their home is the way to go. And in some scenarios, that will work. But I think most scenarios bugging in is not going to be the best option, if at all. And another mistake that most Preppers make is that they are vocal about them prepping. They actually talk to others about how they are stockpiling and getting ready for a disaster. I think that's the worst thing of pepper can do is share anything about what they're doing. The bottom line is, we all need to be able to be ready to go on the Run. Yes, stockpiling food and supplies if necessary, but we also have to live in the real world and realize that we may have to leave all that in order to save our lives.

People get stuck on the idea of a toilet having to have water....just 'go' outside, in your horse's stall, LOL, etc. if you have one of course. After years of keeping toilet paper in a cabinet in the barn so I don't have to go in the house, take muddy shoes off, use the bathroom, ...... I just use a stall. Then one time when the power was out, I just brought a bucket of shavings in the house to use, works fine. A bale of shavings is around $6, and is useful for so many things. I've stacked them up during a minor flooding even where water was getting into one of the stalls - that was when 3 feet of snow was around the barn and it was getting inches of rain. Just an idea for you from a farm girl.

Well done. I am surprised what you covered in 13 minutes. It is one thing to prepare, food, water, all of the things, but I believe the most important will be the human factor. I am old enough to have been around during the cuban missile crisis, lived in south florida at the time and still do now. I remember neighbors who had underground shelters installed in their back yards and the conversation was how they would have to defend against their own neighbors trying to enter the small shelters. Really take them out in order to save their own family. But even more importantly, I owned a gas station in Homestead Florida when hurricane andrew came over us, virtually destroying everything, no power anywhere for months. I had the only gas station that went on a generator the next day, and ran on generator for 2 months. That first day it was total chaos, looting everywhere, violence everywhere. The police were simply running around with sirens on, not even able to prevent or arrest anyone. The police chief told me, you are on your own. Total anarchy. Full curfew, that really didn't work. On the day we opened to do gas, there was over a 2 mile long vehicle line, hundreds of hundreds of individuals with gas cans standing just off the property. When it appeared that we were about to open, there was this mad rush, it took firing a weapon into the air to stop it. Folks were out of control. All of my employees were armed, mine openly on my hip. We ran a tight ship and had some help from an 82nd airborne unit that had bivouacked over night on my property. But one wrong move and it would have been a lost cause. All the time we were witnessing full on looting of businesses and homes in the area. You would never have thought that would happen in the usa, but it did and with folks that you were surprised to see doing it and within just hours. This story is very log and shocking, I intentionally kept out a lot of details, you get the picture. If you are not prepared, with the full ability to defend yourself and loved ones, with plenty of ammo, then you are not prepared to survive, it's really that simple, you will lose everything and your life.

Don't have the time this minute, for the full book, but I'll mention one instance, that gives a window into how the government or maybe better aid, certain entities would react if given the power. We had a local authority that wanted a 30 acre parcel our family owned for decades, when the storm hit, they saw the opportunity to condemn the property, trying to put it out of business, so they thought they could grab it. I had to threaten the corps of engineers, a Colonel, with my firearm on my hip, when they arrived with D8's to bulldoze the property on the orders of some local politician. This was a long drawn out battle, they tried over a couple of years to take the property, we spent hundreds of thousands just to keep our own property from the dictators who were abusing emergency orders to become little Caesars. We won, but the moral of the story is not to be complacent with regard to governmental power, it can be and was excessive. There is actually a law, that states the government can confiscate your preps, food and water and evict you from your own property in an emergency, so you need to be aware of those little Caesars. If you're interested, let me know, I'll mention more related to what happened in that hurricane.

I hope nothing ever happens to upset our lives, I really do, but I refuse to just sit by and be ignorant to the real possibility of really bad stuff happening. It's no longer just gas lines, we saw that in the 70's and pretty much just waited for it to be over. Now, if something happens, it will be life changing, the type of event that could end civilization. Still I love life too much to give up and it's easy to prepare, the hard part will be defending your preps and family, that you have to get real serious about. Great focused insights here for bugging out. Water is the big thing that scares me.... food we can ration out to 800 - 1000 calories a day (I have dieted like this before for 6 months, it is do-able for adults to save the food for your kids). My way of thinking, if you are a parent and you have not started making plans to take care you your family, its not my fault or responsibility to do so when times are hard. After seeing the way things are going these days, people need to start planning for an EMP, which is probably the worst thing that can happen. You WILL NOT be able to be a lone wolf, you cant conduct 24 hr operations and security on your own. As for sewage, I am on a septic tank for a reason, I will not need to worry about sewage. I will be able to use my toilet by bringing in water from the stream behind my house. I would recommend having 1.5 years worth of food. The reason for that time is if SHTF happens in the middle of summer, you will not be able to grow anything until the next spring, that is possibly 9 months, then wait 3-4 months for the crops to come in. The extra food is just in case you allow others to come in, or the plants dont produce as much as you think. I also put solar panels and my power station in faraday bags to help protect those items from an EMP. Good luck in the future.
@LoneStarPrepping

Very good points. I made some of those points in the video. I suggested 3 to 6 months of food and water. This would be minimum. People need a place to start. If you have 2 weeks of supplies and a bugout bag, you are better off than 80% of the population. That shows how unprepared people are. I miss living in the mountains. We were on a well and septic and propane. Here is a little video what it was like for us living in the mountains. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nH7KaICIod2CbMU

@@LoneStarPrepping I will check out the other video. I really want to get a propane tank, but still working on the wife with that one. The video was great, I made the other point just because some people may think that 6 months is good and stop there. I think 2 years is what people should strive for. I do agree, after 6 months, you wont have to worry too much about a lot of people, most will be gone by that time. People will still have to worry about being able to grow the amount of food needed to feed a family, which is a lot. Great talk, and video.

@@LoneStarPrepping I am 50 years old now. I know if I am forced to leave my home, it would be extremely tough. I do have plans in place for a place to go, and have a plan for others to come to my property with their families. I know that a lone wolf cant do all the work and stand 24 hour security. One of the best parts of living in the South East US, there is always water right around the corner. I have stocked up on ways to purify water from the streams and ponds and from rain catchment systems. It will be an interesting time if we need to use our stock.

Various creators rarely talk about the need to collect the most basic tools. Without tools, it is practically impossible to build or produce anything. Skills are the key thing imho. Learn how to fish with a trap, learn how to set a trap for a roe deer or a hare, learn how to smoke because you have to collect and get food all the time. This situation reminds me of a Stephen King novel, The Stand. I recommend reading it. It should give you an idea of what to expect. As far as politicians go, good luck! I’m not sure it’s possible to find enough politicians to do all of what needs to be done. It doesn’t seem as though they work for the people like they’re supposed to.

Depends if you are talking about in home or on the run bugging out. The most cost effective on the go filter, I would go with a sawyer water filter. There are some that are better, but they are a lot more money. In home, I like my Berkey water filter. I have several videos where I go into this.

@@LoneStarPrepping I haven't quite got your first name yet ?.but I'm doing dishes as my kids sleep .I'm a single father with getting my kids on weekends.. I did hard drugs for 13 years "01-to end of 14 " in and out of jail for 4 years total within them times. within three states and seven counties. I was lied to by my mom and dad. I was 17 got trouble with the courts on a breaking-and-entering charge I never even went in. my friends did . the judge told me my dad wasn't my real dad. So all three of them lied to me for purposes I am beginning to understand now at 43 I was seventeen when it happened in 97 . I asked to be a truth-seeker also to be as Jesus was ,so now through law of attraction, it's not that I'm biting my words. it's I'm understanding what Jesus went through as he walked through the public society. I always feel my Aurora my vibration effects the ones around me even driving , everyone wants to impress me or something with the way they act towards me. For instance I always stay two car lengths behind people I only go 5 mi over the speed limit. Sometimes people in front of me slowing down just so I get on their ass. and I got people behind me always ride in my ass and it doesn't seem to bother me anymore.i understand human behavior, that my own experience which I only talk through that experience is what has awakened me. I've shook my soul awake . I went 8 years without taking nothing and it was my ninth time going back to work for my granite shop owner. I was offered that substance called Suboxone. Because I thought it would be easier if I was feeling better off of a drug to deal with vulnerable narcissism. So now year-and-a-half later I'm in a program and this month they're giving me a shot in my belly to where the drug disperses itself and I kind of wing off of it. I tried so hard to get off of this drug but the withdrawals are unbelievable. I just I just know that if I'm not the sober best version of myself I can be .I cannot go out in public and try to make it a better place. I truly through experience am changing the people at my work. so nine years I've been there on and off. I have changed my boss quite a bit through my light work . No one understands that if you go out into the world and have hate towards someone you're the same as them you're picking up the stick just like them and hitting them with it. so to speak. I better quit talkin .thank you so much for texting me like I said I don't ever talk to no one. And I am a very very truthful Fulton taggerty type of person I can't even lie about the simplest things. My spirit my spirit which I stay online with won't allow it. I know your biological way of thanking might deter you from my next comment, I'm trying to say is I am looking for someone to team up with. I am very very healthy hard-working person for anything.you will be missing out by not contacting me. I'm not saying you absolutely need to talk to me I'm just saying if you have doubt in your mind don't have that towards me cuz I don't deserve.itlove you and thanks for putting up all the video content.much needed for the lost .513 507 0802

an emp will NOT affect your panels in any way if they are not plugged into your home. it will fry your charge controller and inverter. i have a spare inverter and charge controller in my faraday cage sealed up. also if you use lithium batteries they have a built in battery management system which will fry.. so they will be toast .. have extra connectors around and start pulling car batteries out of your neighbors cars afterwards.. i keep things to trade for just such events like immodium.. everyone will have the runs and that little 10 cent pill will be better than gold. stock up.. hope this helps.. if you have any questions just ask, i run my home and office on solar

Practice no power just 1 weekend with your family. Learn what you need to have on hand. #1 clean drinking water (double or triple what you think) #2 food #3 climate control if it’s winter (warmth, if it’s summer a way to cool off). Then put that practice to real life and start building a reserve of water & nonperishable food. Cleaning wipe’s disinfectant & cleaning wipes for your body come in handy, too.

I'm in upstate NY, well finger lakes and have very hard water. Iron, calcium etc. I use berkey filters. I bought the filters and two stainless pots at Wally world. Just drill one hole in the bottom of the top pot for the filter. I used two filters on mine but wouldn't now. I'd use just one. Might take longer to filter but at least you'd have an extra filter for way down the road.

Great video. I only have one comment. As a lifelong owner of horse's. When this goes down. PLEASE DO NOT send your friends to the horse people for the horse's. Because when it come's down to it. Horse people ARE NOT giving up their horse's. Especially when their own vehicles are NOT working. Just a analogy. Love your video's though. ❤❤

We have friends who are "horse people", and if I still lived there, I would have every intention of going to them because they have extra horses and said we could. Its all about planning ahead of time. That being said, in a situation as I described, people are not going to ask for anything. They are going to take the horses by force. I'm not sure what you mean by analogy. I don't see an analogy in your point. Please clarify. Thanks.
