I have talked with a few people, ddos protection for the Minecraft server level (mostly dos attacks with a few small ddos attacks) can be done with a simple encryption code. This causes the attack bounce off and stress the internet provider if your hosting it at home if the attacker doesn't get the code to the encryption.

+Daniel Grooms DDOS attacks can happen on a program called skypegrab. This is kind of like skype except you look up the profile and you have their ip and their full information. You can throw a $3 DDOS attack to that person. To disable that, you want to go to settings on your skype, then advance settings, and you want to search in their and you will see a checkbox that says UnPn that is checked. YOU WANT TO UNCHECK THAT SO YOU THAT ANYONE DOES NOT HAVE YOU INFORMATION AND YOUR IP.

Rapidgame7 I constructed/animated all of it in Adobe After Effects using images from the internet and some from MS Visio. It was my first experience using After Effects. To be honest today I would have probably done the graphics in 3D. But it served its purpose back then.

Rapidgame7 Actually the interface of Flash is pretty similar to After Effects (based on a time-line and lots of key frames to signify events). Unless you require the output to be Flash specifically , After Effects has a lot more possibilities. There are also tons of tutorials on how to achieve animation within AE. this leaves out something...what if problem is not filtering out bad requests but bandwidth cap...What if your server can't receive any good requests because download bandwidth is being taken over by bad ips. Even if you block requests by checking ip or whatever, your server still gonna get a request on its internet.

Isn't it possible for the attacker to sent a package which looks like a ''good'' package, and then cheat the RioRey? Imagine a ''devil'' package has a ''good'' look in 2 min. like a time bomb, within the 2. min it has passed trough the RioRey because of the fake 'good' look and then 'explodes'(attack the server)

Actually the individual packets used in a DDOS attack are often not malicious by themselves. It’s the large volume of requests by a high number of clients (all at once) that overwhelm the targeted server. The RioRey distinguishes good from bad packets by analyzing all network traffic and recognizing patterns associated with malicious intentions. Also, the RioRey’s soft/firm-ware is regularly updated in response to the latest tricks used to undermine security. To answer your question; In all honesty, one can never completely rule-out the possibility of being attacked by techniques that currently unknown to the RioRey. Any product that claims a 100% protection should be met with a lot of skepticism. In our experience the RioRey isn’t perfect, but simply offers the best protection available on the market.

I don't think that there's a specific law against using 'DDOS' attacks. But a person can be held accountable for any damage that might occur as a consequence of their actions. If your website is hosted at a 3rd party, then DDOS-ing your own site might disrupt other websites hosted on the same platform / network. I would recommend discussing your plans with your hosting company prior to actually performing any tests. To launch an effective DDOS attack, you would require the combined force of a botnet. But most (if not all) botnets consist of hacked/infected clients that unwillfully participate in such an attacks. As you've seen in the video, botnets are created by hackers gaining unauthorized access (which is illegal) to other peoples computer (to install the botnet client). Therefor using a botnet for any purpose (even for testing) sounds a bit risky to me.

But within the context of a botnet, in general a DDOS attack is likely to be more damaging. Even though a single attacker could do lots of damage by himself. A single attacker would be much easier to identify and blocked from the website.

First of all:You absolutely right! But often this will not be as simple as that sounds. The botnet command center (or server) can be located in some backwards country. In such countries there wouldn't be any laws against hosting botnet servers Some botnets (ab)use the 'tor network' to obscure the physical location of a command center. In such cases it's nearly impossible to take it down.

jeffcojd Well Jeff, you're close, but no sigar ;-) There is a difference between Prolexic and RioRey: Prolexic offers a scrubbing service while RioRey sells equipment that does the actual scrubbing. It's quite possible that Prolexic is using RioReys to scrub the traffic for their customers.
