When I was in Kindergarten (early sixties), we were taught the Penguin Walk to avoid injuries when falling on ice. And about footwear when it's colder than -40 First layer of socks - thin cotton or silk socks. Pull longjohns over the socks so there is no gap. Before putting on boots pull a second layer of thick woolen knee socks over your socks and longjohns. If you wear the same shoe size as summer the woolen socks will make the shoes too tight. If your feet are constricted and irritated you run the risk of lowering circulation in the cold. It's easy to develop a condition called 'trench foot'. Get winter boots that are a half size larger than your summer shoes. When you take off your winter gear inside (boots, parka, scarf, toque) also take off the woolen socks and leave them in your boots. When I lived in Ottawa we would carry either inside shoes or slippers to wear when we took off the boots.

It was a little cold 🥶 today, but it's still manageable. All weather tires are a good option that you have the extra cost of switching over. Make sure you ask for all weather not all seasons. There's is a difference.
