Adaptations in the Deep Sea. NordVPN Christmas Deal! Go to nordvpn.com/naturalworldfacts to get a 2-year plan plus 1 additional month with a huge discount.
The deep sea is a world of challenges. Pressure increases rapidly. In the mesopelagic zone, the light of the sun becomes a faint glow, and at 1,000 metres down, the midnight zone is bathed in darkness. And yet, even in this bitter uninviting world of cold shadows, a myriad of peculiar creatures have made their homes, dramatically adapting their anatomy, behaviours and physiologies in order to cope with the challenge of living here. In this film, we’ll take a look at the unique ways in which these otherworldly creatures have adapted to thrive as masters of the deep dark sea.

I stumbled across this channel last night and I've been casting it to my tv for hours now. You have put some amazing effort into this, beautiful and informative videos. Loaded with information but not at all dry and difficult to digest. I've always loved the ocean and when I was very young I thought I might want to be a marine biologist. Well, life trundles on and I'm completely unable to apply myself to sciences and structured learning and am thoroughly stuck in the art and literature side of the brain. However the passion for the depths below still burns. These videos are fantastic, I have no doubt you'll be a recognized name in the field soon enough. To following passions and doing what you love! I love how relaxing these videos are while also being clear and informative. Your voice is fantastic, and the clips chosen and the editing are just... * chef's kiss * One thing I'm curious about is why the light used by photographers and scientists doesn't seem to bother these creatures if many of them are ultrasensitive to light. I'd presume it'd hurt their eyes or even cause damage, like if we stare directly at the sun, but obviously we wouldn't have this kind of footage if that were the case because they'd swim off or avoid the spotlights altogether. Is it the type of light used or something?

There's an error I noticed. At 9:05, Giant Isopod is said to reach a meter/2,5 ft but a meter is around 3,2 ft. And the largest confirmed Giant Isopod specimen was approximately 50 centimeters. Where did you get the data for a meter?

@@zakr1187 That's the point. I checked all 4 sources except the paid one and none of them include a 1 meter long Bathynomus specimen.

Thank you, this bothered me so much. 2.5 feet is ~25cm away from a meter.

Thanks for pointing this out! No idea how I messed up that conversion so badly, but you’re absolutely right. I got the 2.5ft value from a specimen that was hauled up near the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, but have no clue how I then did such a terrible job of rounding the metric conversion! My apologies for this.

I was going down a path of hatred. Of the world of people. There’s so much to be angry about and my fellow humans deserve so much blame with me included. So this out of nowhere is a glimmer of hope. Haven’t even watched it but I know it’s going to put me on a better path today.

I'm not going to lie, I had this pop on my home page for awhile, but didn't watch it because it wasn't in the millions of views. But, I decided to click it, I am now subscribed, and thinking this is vastly under viewed. I have barely started watching and the amount of work that has been put into this is just.... bravo. Barely made it past the intro and I'm already fan. Onto the video, let's do this
