How To Survive The Winter in Berlin | GoOn Berlin

Winter is coming to Berlin, and it's time to get ready for the cold days.
In this video I am taking you along with me to a journey in west Berlin after the necessary cloth to survive the cold-dry winter of northern Germany. I will give many tips and tricks along the way on how to stay warm during the winter here.
Also in this video, my good friend, Noa Refaeli, will help me to find the good and cheap cloths i need, she will teach me and you how to shop smart in Berlin like a true local.
At the end of this video I am also giving you a recipe of my favorite drink for the winter, my famose Hot-Chocolate!

Ok, Let’s stop for a second and talk about dressing up.
The winter in Berlin can be very cold and super dry.
Now I would like to share with you my 3 guidelines on how not to freeze in Berlin.
For temperature ranging between 15 and 10 Celsius
I am usually wearing a long shirt and light jacket.
Long underwear and long pants.
And closed shoes.
My 2nd guideline is for temperatures ranging between 10 and 0 Celsius.
In that case I will wear a scarf
Long shirt and pullover under a medium jacket.
One or two long underwear under lose long pants (not skinny)
On my feet I put on my winter shoes that are also waterproof (very important)
And will use my super thick socks, so make sure your winter shoes are a bit larger than your casual summer shoes.
The last guideline will be for the coldest days in Berlin, ranging from 0 to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
A good warm Beanie and a thick scarf is a must!
A fun tip about scarfs: most men fashion stores will sell only small, thin, scarfs. that may look elegant but does not do the job, so I will recommend you looking for a scarf in the women fashion.
I will also wear long shirt, pullover and a sweater.
All that I am wrapping with an extra warm, heavy jacket.
Don’t think about fashion when buying a heavy jacket, there will not be good ones that also look good, so just buy the warmer one you can find.
For that temperature I will also wear thick gloves.
Keeping your bottom part of the body warm is critical for maintaining a warm body temperature,
Therefore I will wear 2 long underwear, and training pants on top of it.
All this under an oversized pants.
And of course, the winter shoes and 2 pairs of warm socks.
And now for the fun part!
Let’s make caramel by warming sugar in a small cooking pot,
To it we will add heavy cream, move it around and stir it until all the caramel dissolves.
Put some more heavy cream, and my super-secret spice mixture:
Black pepper, cinnamon, chili powder, anis star and Chinese 5 spices mixture.
Mix very well and bring to a boil.
At that point we will turn off the heat and add very dark chocolate.
Whisk it thoroughly until it’s all mixed together with the cream and hot spices.
Add a touch of cream if it’s too thick.
Poor it to a glass through a fine sieve to separate the spices. And give a few drops to your table too.

Extremely useful video Amir, thank you, but I must volunteer to you that the feeling of warmth while drinking alcohol is a result of the burn and destruction of esophageal cells as the alcohol is swallowed. The irritation is probably why people who drink alcohol have much higher rates of esophageal cancer than people who abstain. Labriut!
