The way to spot it in the walls before it emerges is to look right above the wall trim. You can see the ends of it's legs there. And be very suspicious of specific rooms, like strangely empty halls or specific rooms. Wall Dwellers always have a set position in the room it spawns in. Finally, Wall Dwellers can only hide of flat surfaces, so it's very easy to spot in rotten coral.

I found something interesting about wall dwellers: they only appear in certain rooms. They cannot appear in a completely random room. They can only appear in specific room generations. I have memorized a few places where they appear, and I almost always find them before they even come out of the wall. Therefore, my advice to you is to remember the rooms where wall dweller appears, so you don't need to worry about them anymore. You can just check the room where they appear and everything will be okay.

I personally never had any problem with wall dwellers. Since I hear them getting out, the only times I ever died from them is when I was getting jumped by 3 entities and the music was covering up it's footsteps and audio cue.

A very consistent place where wall dwellers spawn, is the rooms with the rotten coral (green reflective moss type stuff you can find, seemingly spreading like an infection). I have encountered wall dwellers 3 times after these rooms, and the most common one being the rotten coral infecting an entire hall, making a sort of tunnel.

Literally free eats, since I'm always in a hurry, he always ends catching up to me on the worst scenarios, for example, my first encounter with one was when I was hiding from a turret and it grabbed me from behind, but when his animation played he made me get up from cover, the turret locked on him and saved me. Whenever I play with a friend, I take on lookout duty. They go first into a room, I step in, get about half way, and then look back to make sure nothing followed us. Works almost every time. The one time it didn’t work, was when there was ambient noise after I looked back. I didn’t hear the squishy noise of it coming out of the wall and looked away too fast. I remember one time a wall whatever tried to kill me and when the death animation happened, the lantern fish just came and it was like, the fish couldn't kill me because the wall dweller took me by surprise, but the wall dweller couldn't kill me either because after the animation, i was still alive and I saw the inert body there ( i speak spanish sorry for my bad english)
