Just a word of warning…this is for Glock Gen 4s forward. I have a Glock 17 Gen 3 and they cannot be exchanged like this. The mag release is a different design. You will notice the opening is larger on the right side of the pistol and will not accommodate the size difference. I didn’t read all 107 comments so my apologies if this is already stated.

I had mine changed during purchasing the g19… I’m so used to right handed oriented guns I had it changed back when they upgraded it with trijicon sites. I was not charged a cent for the two minutes work. They never took the pin out. I use my middle finger for mag release and trigger finger for slide lock releases or support hand to release into battery. I grew up on colt 1911s so I adapted. Hard to change tactics now and I would be confused in a SHTF moment. Muscle memory rules so I keep it stock simple.

Be advised that this torques the magazine in the opposite direction, pulling the follower away from the slide release. It may be just enough to cause the slide release to fail to lock on the lip of the follower. Had this issue with one particular magazine (guessing the follower was a tiny bit smaller than in my other magazines), swapped mag release back to right-handed, and it locked fine. There was a noticable difference in the amount of purchase the release had on the follower lip compared to left-handed setup. Hope this helps anyone having similar issues.

Great video. As a lefty though, I've always taught my left handed people to use their index finger for the slide and mag releases. Some still prefer the method you've illustrated though. Whichever works best for the individual shooter is the right way to go.

I actually use my middle finger on my left hand to drop the mag. I find that I have to alter my grip less than using my index finger. I keep my mag release of the factory side, because that is how I’ve always trained and it’s natural to me. Thanks for teaching people and also thanks for the comment!

@@thinksurvival Yes, some of the agents found the left middle finger to work better for them also. The dimensions of the hand/pistol interface, or just personal preference, have a lot to do with it. Some of the right handed shooters adopted the left finger method when shooting weak handed, but most merely revert to the right hand. On pistols that don't require a thumb safety, most semi autos are more left hand friendly than right handed.

Best tutorial out there! Thanks! Note: For the Glock 43X, the pin didn’t want to slide out (even with heavy pressure applied and in the removal slot via the screwdriver). I ended up having to hold the mag release in place to keep it from sliding with the spring and applying a lot of leverage with the screwdriver against the spring / frame. It went back in without a problem though (pin might not have been pushed down far enough at manufacture).

@@neilpatel7684 Its tough. I’m assuming you got to the point I did, pin is over but cannot be pulled from release slot. Try grabbing with needle nose and try wiggling it around. This should reduce back pressure if it’s not fully seated and might allow you to extract in from the slot with the pliers. Another idea is to pull it over and then put pressure behind the pin using something like a tiny flathead or precision tweezers to coax it out. I scratched the inner frame slightly from having to fight it but I was eventually able to do it. I don’t know why it’s that hard though.

You don't need to take the pin out. Just do everything you saw in the video except take out pin.

@@PandasWeightloss like I said, for several of us, the pin isn’t far enough down so it rubs at the top and won’t move. That’s why we can’t pull it out in the first place. Glad you got yours easy though! Hopefully, most folks won’t face this problem.

Take a Bic pen take the ink out so you just have a Hollow tube, slide that tube over the top of that pin. piece of cake.

Thanks for the video…I’m right handed but love the idea of switching the mag release to the left…I can drop the mag faster and the pistol stays gripped forward…I try to release the mag by pressing my right palm over and over but the mag won’t fall out unless i press it with my right point finger…it makes it so easy for me…is the switch ok even if you’re right handed, will the mag fall off?

Great. now is there anyway to remove the right side of the magazine release on a Ruger American 9 mm I hate the fact that it has a magazine release on both sides when I put my handgun in my pocket in the car the right side of the magazine release button pushes up against the center console on the side where the seatbelt is and it releases the magazine which is highly irritating
