I am a part time Masters coach and lament the lack of specificity in the workouts. My team is small and we have maybe max 20 swimmers on any given day. But I try to integrate the concept of pacing borrowing the approach Paul has developed with the tempotrainer. At first people were resistant to even thinking about a pace, but over time, I've won some of them over, and now when I say that we're doing a CSS workout, there is a level of excitement. Of course, our pool doesn't provide tempo trainers and I haven't told them to buy one, so the pacing isn't as precise as a 1.26.34 per 100 yards for example. But at least I'm getting them to think of "1.26 per 100" rather than just "hard 100". For myself though, I have used your approach, Paul, for some of the open water training I did a few years ago swimming around key west in Florida. That was the biggest race I ever did and if it wasn't for your workouts and the Guru, I don't think I could have been prepared. I'm a huge fan of your program and hope that more Masters programs will start to consider integrating something like this on specific days.
