Where have you been?? I've taken classes, watched numerous coaches videos (paid subscriptions) and NO ONE kept it as simple to understand as this. I just came back from the range and found this video. That's exactly what happened to me. This will take care of it because is simple and is a no-nonsense lesson. THANK YOU!

Arguably the best instructional golf video on YT. It's a golf swing not a golf hit.
@sledge19608 жыл бұрын
It works my friend. The secret lies in rejecting all the negative information your brain is warning against, like learning to swim, nobody accepts easily that the water will support their body weight Allow the arms and hands to go limp, grip the club so it just rests in the fingers, it WILL NOT fly out of your hands, do a one-piece takeaway, cock the wrists at the hips and at the top allow the arms to follow the body rotation, you will be amazed. I certainly was.. You will see the ball launch twice as far with a fraction of the effort. A good posture is absolutely essential, no slouching and the neck should be away from the shoulders. It will give you an enjoyment of the game you never knew. There's not one golfer here who thought this would help them. Practice with an 8 iron on the range until you hit that first sweet shot, then you're away. You'll probably find you're launching the ball with a high gentle draw.

This vid would help almost any amateur above scratch, certainly above a 5. Just the fact of changing your thinking from "hit ball" to "ignore ball, just set up so it gets in the way" -- and it's _so_ hard for people to do this, but it's worth it -- is a game-changer. You can start with short shots, even putts, and work up from there. I don't remember where I heard this when I was still a pro (both teaching and playing) -- I think it might have been from Al Geiberger's book, but anyway -- think of the last time you were staying somewhere unfamiliar (a hotel room, a friend's house, whatever), you got up in the middle of the night to pick your way to the bathroom or the kitchen, and you ran into something with your foot so hard you still can't believe it. It's because there was no anticipation of the object, since you couldn't see it. Just the act of moving freely as if your foot (or the club... or a club foot, I guess) were on its way to the end of its path, unimpeded, creates a startling amount of impact force. More wisdom in this video than in any 10 (or hundred) overtechnical pseudoscience vids on the swing out here on YT.

This is the most useful tip I have ever gotten. An unanticipated reaction is that I now enjoy golf more because the breathing I do, besides relaxing me, turns apprehension about hitting the ball into joy of hitting the ball.

As I wrote before, Rickard taught me the best tip ever with this video. I'm an 18 handicapper plagued by doing for two decades exactly what he points out in the video: I've been swinging AT the ball, whereas all along I should have been swinging the club...and allowing the ball to be secondary. Gads, is this is sooo true. At least for me. Here's something I've added: rather than merely breathing out slowly, I whistle (softly, of course. Don't want my golf buddies to think I'm nuts). Anyway, by whistling softly, I find that it provides me with an immediate aural indication on whether or not I'm breathing out slowly. Follow? That, combined with a consistent grip, has made my swing so much easier...and the ball goes farther. Rickard for President!

I just started golfing this year... on my first 9 holes I golfed a 71 which is clearly terrible. I watched this video and I had this "hitting" problem. Now I use the constant breathing tip for every swing I make. 2 days ago, which is only 3 weeks from when I started playing, I golfed a 48. I owe everything to this video. Thanks!!!!

@emncaity9 жыл бұрын
Aye Zee I don't remember which player said it (for some reason, I'm thinking it might've been Al Geiberger in his book Tempo), but if you've ever been walking through a strange room (a hotel room, staying with friends, whatever) in the middle of the night, in the pitch dark, and you stubbed -- or broke -- your toe on a piece of furniture you didn't know was there, you know how much force can be developed with a lack of undue tension coupled with a motion that goes "through" an object in the path (or tries to). Martial arts instructors and football coaches who teach blocking and tackling are always trying to find ways to get their players to get the feel for it.

The "mouth open" thing was written about by Jack Nicklaus, who said it was one of the only pieces of advice (among thousands) he ever got from a fan that actually worked. The fan said Nicklaus seemed to be clenching his jaw, and that his neck muscles sort of stood out as tense. Turned out he was right, and Jack said making sure at least the teeth weren't touching (even if you didn't literally have your mouth open) was a pretty good key to reducing tension.

I think it was NIcklaus who said the only "tip" he could remember from a gallery member that actually worked (they were always telling pros "hey, try this, it works") was when a guy told him that making sure his teeth weren't clenched -- that is, deliberately relaxing the jaw so the teeth were apart (cf. this teaching pro's advice to keep the mouth slightly open). Said it actually made a difference, particularly in a diagnostic way, as I recall (if you can't keep your teeth apart, you've got tension climbing up your body from your arms and hands into your shoulders, neck, and face).
