Mahalo from Kauai Hi. I’m 56 yrs old and still love dancing Tahitian . I use this video as a cardio work out . Maruru.

OMG! I used to bellydance. This is waaaay more difficult and such an intense workout. I'm 52 so that's my excuse. LOL. True story, when I was a teenager, I applied for a foreign exchange program to go to Tahiti. Of course my parents weren't going to let me go alone all the way to the other side of the world. I have no idea how I even found out about it. There was no internet or Google back then but I was always a curious child ready to explore the world.

I got the best tip to do faster fa‘arapu from this video!!!! I’m gonna keep practicing! Thank you so much❤
@kilipaki87oritahiti6 ай бұрын
Speed comes from the strength in your knees not the hips. A proper Fa’arapu comes from the stomach. Not the hips at all. Body isolation, bending low enough, relax, proper weigh distribution with flat feet, and strong legs…
@kaoriInGermany6 ай бұрын
@@kilipaki87oritahiti Thank you so much for your advice❤️ yes! As I repeatedly watch this video, I learned that I should move the knees faster to make fa‘arapu faster. And crunch the stomach to make the hip circle move. Thank you for putting in words, so it’s even easier to understand for me🙏 Not so many teachers teach the importance of keeping the flat feet. As you mentioned, I need to work on to relax, train my legs to be stronger, and isolate upper and lower body to be able to move like you!! I’d LOVE to take your class one day❤️

I think that the girl who was 13 at the time of the video was actually pretty fast towards the end. In any dance, you have to clearly understand the form and the steps, and then you can build up the speed over time.

Circle comes from stomach not hips. Many confuses this. Ope is just like Ami, Fa’arapu, but with Patia on the tip toe.
@musicgal983010 ай бұрын
No, she has it right! It’s supposed to be from the hips which should be driving the movement, hence why a dancer can still do the full motion on the ground. We do it in the cook islands too.
@tehereoritahiti10 ай бұрын
Agree with you on this. Every single 'ori teacher I've studied under (10 of them) say the same thing too--use your abs, be it tumami, ope fa'arapu; and yeah, ope is simply is tumami with one foot on patia. There is also another move different from the fa'arapu that draws circles on the vertical plane (fa'arapu is circles on the horizontal plane) that doesn't use the abs but you push backwards instead.

If you knew where your stomach lies anatomically, ypu wouldn't be comparing at all.

Le faarapu de Manaiti est vraiment fluide et impressionnant. Je ne sais pas si c’est dû à une souplesse particulière ou sa technique mais bravo ❤❤. Très beau à regarder.

@@musicgal9830Kia Ora! Lol 1. I’ve done Ori Tahiti for the past 15 years, quit 4 years ago due to injuries 2. I’ve been taught by several dancers who are pros and champions both in Tahiti Nui E and abroad 3. my Ra’atira was taught in Tahiti by several famous groups, directors and schools 4. Ura isn’t the same as Ori/Hura. Different style and techniques. 5. it’s a matter of style and terminology/phrases. Many use “hips” when they mean core/stomach. Ori Tahiti is a core dance after all. A proper Fa’arapu comes from the stomach, not the hips, thighs or butt tho many does the others which is incorrect technique! Many does Ope wrong. They just lift up their butt cheek, and don’t make a full circle whilst on the tip toe. When you have body awareness, know how to actually use those body parts and know the proper form and technique, you will know I’m right. But you’re Kuki Airani, not Maohi, so it’s irrelevant…
