Backhand shots are useful because they’re deceptive - it’s difficult for the goaltender to anticipate where the puck is going as it comes off the player’s blade.
They’re a quick shot that can be taken in tight spaces, from difficult angles and can be elevated quickly with minimal effort.
It's important to have the versatility of a solid backhander as top-notch defenseman will purposefully push you to your backhand, given the chance.
There are two types of backhand shots:
1. The Crosby or snap shot backhand
2. The Datsyuk or the wrist shot backhand
