Thank you for this clear explanation! One week post partum and need to monitor and log BP for next six weeks due to preeclampsia risk. The digital monitors were too expensive. I watched about 3 videos before this that just confused and discouraged me. I feel confident enough to use the manual cuff now. 🙏🏻

Great video! Interesting that you use your thumb when holding the stethoscope. I’ve seen others do this as well. In school and also learning from cardiologists as well, I was told to never use my thumb to hold the stethoscope because you can sometimes hear your own pulse. I’ve always stuck with that rule when taking a manual blood pressure. I also use the radial pulse to know when to stop pumping up the cuff. By doing this, you prevent getting the cuff too tight as long as the patient doesn’t have a high systolic. Best of luck in your career!

Thank you! And thank you for the tip… I never thought about it, but that makes sense! I will take note and try not using my thumb next time!

Love the detailed explanations, I'm in nursing school and I was told not to attempt taking the pressure on the same arm unless you wait for five minutes before you try again. What do you think about that?
@theluckienurse10 ай бұрын
I think that is a general rule of thumb. If I get an abnormal reading, I will deflate the cuff, keep it on the patient and try again a few minutes later after they’re calm.

Thank you for this video, it is very helpful. (I am doing an assistant social nursing course and I am learning how to take the blood pressure at the moment, I am located in Hungary where social and health care nursing are integrated in my role, so I study social care as well as nursing skills). I wonder if I can ask you a "number reading" question, somewhere I saw a video explaining about the momanometer unit marks: it shows only even numbers, therefore we can only record even numbers on the patient record when reading the units. How would you advise? Many thanks, Emese
@theluckienurseАй бұрын
Thank you for watching! The unit marks for a manual blood pressure are in increments of two, so you can only get even numbers. When I recorded the video for this manual blood pressure reading, I did not realize that you could only get even numbers if you were doing a manual reading, but you can get odd numbers if you have an automatic cuff. Although I am demonstrating taking the blood pressure with a manual cuff, the simulation that I used was simulating an electric cuff, which is why I got an odd number. I am sorry for the confusion!
