I gave this a Like since it has a few good tips and the glass cleaning worked like a charm to remove the specs of built in grime! The method in this video may work if you have some upper body strength but if you don't - please just REMOVE the whole door from the hinges and lay it on a flat surface before removing any screws. If you don't you are stuck trying to put 2 glass pieces at an angle that is not stable at all - it will slide everywhere! Not to mention- the insulation will shift when the glass slides as you try to keep it all together with your hand and knees while trying to put the screws on! Impossible - hours of frustration! A flat surface is soooo much better!
@DavidL-DaKing4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. My wife and I just cleaned our whole Whirlpool gas oven (2 hours tops), removed the Door, then removed the bottom piece (2 screws) and burner plate (2 screws) to get to the burner area (tray), YOU WILL need to clean there too. As far as the Door, it is much easier to work with from a flat surface, plus no finger prints trying to slide the glass back in, no messing with the fiberglass, easier working with the screws, etc. Not knocking the way he did it and appreciate the video, but for most of us just remove the door. Not even sure that you save that much time by not removing the door.

Thanks, you filmed this in 2015. Its Dec. 2019 and I used this recording to take on the challenge of cleaning up my Whirlpool electric oven window glass. Been wanting it done for some years now, it looks bad. I was successful, no broken glass and it looks new. Made a huge difference in the appearance of my stove in the kitchen. Thanks for your patience of teaching us how to do this.👍🏿🔥🔥

Yes, I really did clean the inside of my oven glass. Just take your time, wear glove there are some sharp edges. Use something to support the oven door other than your knee. A plastic bin, cardboard box or stool about the height of the oven door when open will be a big help. Hope everything goes well. I am soooh happy to have mine clean and I have a big sence of accomplishment. You can do it👍🏿👌🏽

Who would do all that work for 50 measly bucks? Thats a $300 job if I ever saw one. No one will come to your house for less than $100 before they’ve even done any work. They just don’t roll the truck for less than 100 bucks. Unless of course they want to go out of business.

@harveydodd88034 жыл бұрын
Lilly Taggert $50 is too cheap but $300 is way too expensive. Whirlpool will service your oven for $125. Seems that’s a good starting point. If you want to undercut the company, $99.99 seems like a good price point. Assuming you can do this work in an hour after experience, that’s a nice little cheap business one can run. Nobody’s paying $300 to clean a $750 oven.
@dianneunderwood84564 жыл бұрын
well done and about the only thing I might want to add is that you must be careful to replace the glass pieces exactly as removed. Having known someone who took apart the door to clean the glass, the glass pieces got mixed up when putting back together and the next time they used the oven, the oven side of the glass broke. I liked that you put your pieces on a top and bottom rack to help remind one which one goes where. Thank you

Thanks to all of you that have posted all the very helpful KZbin videos on how to clean oven glass. Okay, I just finished cleaning my oven door glass. The easy part is taking the oven door off, apart, and then reinstalling. The hard part is cleaning the glass. First, I would recommend taking plenty of photos before you take anything apart. Next I would recommend taking more photos as you are slowly taking things apart. If you have enough room, lay out the parts in the order you took them out while taking photos of everything. You can’t have to many photos. To clean the glass I tried a number of products mentioned in all the KZbin videos I watched before I began my task. What worked best for me was a combination of the following depending on how much build up there was. A razor blade, You must be careful not to scratch the glass. I felt comfortable using a blade as I use it often when cleaning car windshields for myself and others. If you don’t know what you’re doing or not experienced using a razor blade, do not use it. Bar Keepers Friend (cleanser) with a Teflon safe sponge, Need to use a little “elbow grease with this but it does work Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, Works about the same as cleanser and sponge but not as rough. Griot’s Glass Polish and a glass polishing pad, I use this as the finishing touch and applied it with my Porter Cable 7424XP set to number four. It’s the same process I use on auto windshields and it actually takes off a layer of glass on a molecular level. Makes the glass as smooth as a babies a$$. For those that don’t have the tools and products for the last step, just rinse the glass clean with mild soap and water after you’ve cleaned the glass to your satisfaction. Wipe it dry, reinstall the glass, reassemble the door, and reinstall the oven door to the oven. Don’t forget to take the pins out if applicable and reinstall the door stop clips. Job done!

The cleaning is the easy part. Taking it apart and putting it back together would be really hard for me to do by myself. And let's not forget that ungodly scraping noise that made me cringe. In this day and age, screwing around like this just ain't gonna happen in most households. It's about time the MANUFACTURERS designed a door in such a way that nothing could get on the inside surfaces of the glass. An oven is not a sophisticated device... it's just a cheap metal box made of thin, flimsy metal with a couple of elements in it that they want far too much money for.

On my Whirlpool oven, a wall oven, there is a slot across almost the entire bottom. I took a yardstick. I tightly wrapped some paper towel with rubber bands around one end of the yardstick. I sprayed window cleaner onto the paper towel. I inserted the window cleaner soaked end of the yardstick into the bottom slot and cleaned the filthy, drippy interior glass. You might need to do this a few times depending on how dirty the window glass is. Slide it out slowly and carefully so the window cleaner soaked end doesn't catch and slide off the yardstick. Result is that the inner part of the window is clean.

You have to get down on the floor for my suggestion, and have some kind of tray on the floor under the door of the oven, too, but here is what I discovered: The top AND THE BOTTOM of the door have openings. If you feel under the door, you will find it. If you pour very hot water with something like Mr. Clean or any of those cleaners you add to water, pour it down the top slot where the drips entered the door and try to get it to cover the whole glass window, you can poke a ruler, or any kind of stick you can fit through the opening in the bottom, with an old rag over it and wipe it on the window. It is messy, so have a sheet pan or something like that on the floor to catch the water you pour down the inside of the door. If you are brave enough to remove the whole door you can take it outside and do this on the grass without having to crawl around on the floor and make a mess indoors. It worked for me, but of course it doesn't stay clean, does it? I need to do it again soon.

I’m glad there’s a way to clean the glass but don’t think I’m capable enough to assemble the oven door back again by myself. It’s very disappointing because the stove cost $1,000 USD 😖. I agree what other people have mentioned that in this day and age, the manufacturers should make sure the oven doors be perfectly sealed, in order to prevent any liquids leaking or seeping into the glass oven window. 😖☹️. Very bad workmanship.

I remember when the old formula Easy Off would eat your skin off. A couple of folded blankets on the floor under the oven door can prove worth while, BTW...

Thank you.Great video I found that if you flip the keepers back, they will hold the hinge. eliminating the need for the small bits.

Thank you! I had no idea this can be done.

Excellent tutorial but im a little afraid to do this. Do you think spraying a degreaser, letting it sit and rinse will do it

You are my hero!!!! I'll be tackling this...this weekend!!!

Please watch when putting your front plate of glass back on your stove as this is tempered glass and will explode if you tighten screws or bend the glass the wrong way. I quickly found this out yesterday when putting the glass back on.

Well I have a pesky streak that just irks me to no end! My oven has to ALWAYS be CLEAN!!! That darn streak down the glass has been an itch in my crawl... and you my dear sir have shown me it can be done! Question is do I risk taking it apart........ or deal with it!? Oh the Dilemma 😬

Think you so much I thought I would have to have a repair person out to clean the glass the saved me so much time and money!!

Wow, thanks so much! I'm ready to tackle mine. We've been trying to sell our house and I hate that all those streaks and blobs are inside the glass. Not that that would make or break an offer or sale, but I would feel so much better. I'm going to pull my husband aside and make it a joint effort. One of us can take pics or video as we go because we never have the same memory of stuff like this. Even only an hour or two later. Can't wait to get it clean! And if it frustrates him.....well, maybe he will be more careful whenever he does any cooking!

I am sure I can take my oven door apart, but I am also sure I will never put it back the way it should be, so I will continue to look at the streaks in the glass. Great vid though. Thanks for sharing.

I could take the door apart but I know I could never put it back together! You did such a good job! I live in a rented condo so I’m never going to try that here!

I can already see all the DIYers calling an appliance repair guy & paying $100s to fix what they 'fixed'. Lol

But my door has a big opening slit between the doors glasses where with a long handled instrument, it can conceivably be cleaned without the hassle of taking the doir apart at the bottom of the door. Gas man who worked on our igniters recently said he didn't know there was any oven doors with openings like that.

Theres a great video showing that way of doing it with GE stoves. Now I'll see if my Kenmore works the same way.

My professional oven has a double glass and vent slots at the top of the door so it doesn't get overheated and break the glass. That's how stuff gets in there. I just squirted some liquid detergent in and used the garden hose (I have tile floors with drains). Take the door off, it's not that hard to get back on and take it outside and do what I did.

I know I can do it... but do I want to? Not really. 🤣 Thanks for the tutorial! I will be sure to watch it again should I attempt it.

Cleaning the glass is MUCH easier if you first remove the door and lay it on a padded surface, like a moving quilt. Wear protective GLOVES when removing/installing and handling the glass.

The modestly priced Belling oven from the UK has an easily removable inner glass pane. You simply slide it out, soak it in detergent (non ammonia), then scrape off the messy build-up with a razor scraper. No harsh chemicals, no dismantling required.

Thanks for the tutorial, believe or not I’m definitely gonna do this. Just a hint, I’ve been using the industrial strength of Dawn dishwashing soap for all my cleaning. It works better than any of those toxic cleaners and you don’t need gloves and it smells great. I am even using it to clean my toilets and sinks.
