So great to find this. Remember the part at the beginning where you say, "You don't need to take this off," referring to the screw by the bobbin winder? Well, I was messing with it the other day and the backing plate just...fell...down into the machine. I could not longer wind thread on to a bobbin until I figured out how to get the case apart by watching this video. Thanks to both of you for giving the rest of us the confidence to get in there and get 'er done.

Thanks so much for the video, helped greatly. In case others have the 7640 Singer Confidence, I found only the back came off. The front had all the electronic wires connected. The bottom also could be removed. With this video it helped me fix my problem. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Thank you for this! I needed a new bobbin case because I had filed it so much it was not working right. I found it on eBay for 12.99 and it comes with bobbins! I have always had problems with my machine because I was accident it feting the wrong bobbins.. hey, I just wanted to let you know that this video saved my life (well, a couple hundred bucks really, but it felt like my life.), like you said, there is NOTHING OUT THERE on how to take the cover off this machine and machines from it's era, I have a fashionmate 5560 which is a little different, but I couldn't for the life of me find that small screw by the needle. thank you so much for this, seriously. the timing was off and the sewing machine shop told us they couldnt fix it because there was a jam, as soon as I got the cover off I was able to easily clear the jam and reset the timing, good as new, I feel like I should offer my services to the sewing machine shop now :D

I expected a screw to unlock the two plastic parts front and rear after I unscrewed most of the screws, but they are only "linked (stucked ?)" by a clip between the two plastic parts in the center of the machine. Thank you so much for this video! I couldn’t figure out after unscrewing everything how to pull the front apart. I needed to retrieve my 1/4 in foot that fell underneath the bobbin area when I removed it after taking off the face plate. Big mistake. Thank you! Edit: well after putting the machine back together unfortunately it doesn’t work now. It was tough enough pulling it apart the first time so I guess it was destined for the shop☹️.

Okay so..... I got as fast as popping open the casing tabs and I can't seem to open the front side.... The back only wants to come off. How did you get yours to open over the tension wheel?

Sorry it's taken so long to respond! We've got a sick bunny that has required a lot of attention. He had to really kind of wiggly and gently wrestle with it at times. They make it difficult to pop off, but you just have to make sure all the tabs are popped out of place and then gently shimmy it on and off, making sure to put it back exactly right. I hope that helps! Mine is due for a cleaning soon. I'll have to record him doing it again, maybe a little more slowly, so that we can really see the step by step.

You are the only ones who have a video up for this machine. I have been needing the timing on mine fixed before pandemic started, but my vac'nsew I trust is in a sketchy neighborhood with not many make wearers, and I care for an elderly woman so I can't risk any exposure... Luckily I have a back up machine I can continue to sew with. I really hope your bunny is doing better! Please take your time! And thank you so much for what you have already posted. Silly how hard they made it to get the case apart for changing simple things like drive belts. Great video and totally helpful. Model 7467 is what I'm using and it looks almost identical.

Is your video line than 5 min 22 sec? It cut off a you were taking screws out of the bottom. My thread takenup lever looks bent. How do I straighten it? When the cover is on, the take up lever does not go high enough for me to thread it. Can you help?

It is less than 5 minutes and 22 seconds because putting it together is just the reverse of what we show in the video. I don't know much more about the machine than getting to the inside so I can adjust the timing, unfortunately. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Hello, do you know how to loosen the needle bar? Mine started squeaking and then got SO tight that it will not sew. Even turning the Hand Wheel is difficult.

I have not had to loosen the needle bar, but I did experience knocking at one point and it was bound up thread in the machine. I had to take the plastic cover off the front left - where the needle mechanism is housed - and then remove loose thread, and then clean and oil the machine. Could also be that the bobbin case is out of place due to a needle breaking and jamming the machine.

It must be catching somewhere. There are plastic tabs all over and you have to find and gently move them to release the catch. Are you able to put the cover back on and maybe start from another area? Also, don't forget to remove screws where necessary.

Both tutorial videos are excellent! Your tutorial video and the video suggested by you on adjusting the timing of the singer machine. Unfortunately, the model in the suggested video is not 7469 and I have a question. Do you know if the singer 7469 also has the timing at the bottom of the coil and if a special screwdriver is needed to loosen it? Because you mentioned something about the timing but, it was not under the coil and that's where your tutoring ended ...Thanks in advance for your help!!!

That's a good question. I don't know, but I do know that the only 2 sewing machines my husband has worked on had a clearly visible bar like ours. I'm guessing you could watch several timing videos and every machine has that same vertical bar with a screw which - once loosened - will allow you to adjust the needle until you're happy and then tighten the screw and test if the timing is right. Ours requires a Phillips screwdriver, and our friend's (I think) required an Allen wrench. That vertical bar will tell you and it's almost always in the same place. It might take a bit of patience to fiddle with, but it seems to me that part of the sewing machine is pretty consistent on every model. I hope that helps! Let me know if it does!

Not sure. I only know how to set the timing. That's as complicated as I know to get with this machine. Maybe the electronic panel got disconnected? A plug may have come loose where all the stitch settings are?

Are you asking what other tool you can use to take the machine apart? The tool my husband is using is actually the metal "screwdriver" that comes with the machine because it's strong and really thin for getting in between the parts that snap together. You could also use a thin screwdriver, but I'd be very careful that you aren't overly aggressive and break the tabs. I assume Singer repair people have a special tool, but I don't know what it is. If your bobbin won't wind, use this video to remove case, for the 7442 there's a small clear reed switch adjacent to the white bobbin winder pawl mounted to a small black block with a tiny screw, and a larger screw for its small metal mounting plate. The switch likely needs to be rotated counter clockwise a tiny bit, looking from the top. Loosen the large screw slightly, rotate, and retighten. Trial and error required to get it right. Test with cover off. Reassemble.
