I just started the 1/64 diecast toy car customization hobby and I have never seen a video that explains in explicit detail on how to swap out wheels by showing you how you need to creat new screw holes in place of the drilled out rivets until now. Thank you so much for making this video. A lot of the guys who customize diecast toy cars may think this stuff is self explanatory but someone like me who is a complete novice, this video really made a difference in understanding all the steps needed in order to replace or swap out new wheels on your car. Thank you so much for sharing and I look forward to seeing more of your content! You definitely have a new subscriber in me!

Yes, I was in that group of guys too. I was thinking making screw holes is self explanatory, but it turned out, many beginners are confused with that practice. There are similar videos on KZbin, but almost no one said which drill bits to use and which size of screws are they using. Of course, there are exceptions always, there will be situations when you will need to use bigger, or even smaller screws, but in this scale those situations are very rare.

Great video, just don't forget to add oil to your drill bit by using a q-tip! ✌️❤️

Very good tips there, I have been gluing mine, but not happy with that. Gonna try screws instead, cleaner and more secure I imagine.

Yes, you are right. Another good side is that you can disassemble cars any time, change parts or make some other changes and assemble it again, very easy. If you can, try to find M2 tap for making threads, its even easier to make threads with tap than only with screw. I bought my taps on Aliexpress.

For axle tubes i use the rubber coating on coated paperclips. Same results and no need to use needles. Cheaper too!
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
I think that rubber coating is soft and flexible. Are wheels touching the fenders when you press the car from above? Needles are also very cheap. I can buy 55 needles for one USD in my local pharmacy store.

Nice tutorial, new sub here. And yes, my drill broke and is stuck in the post. So I just have to glue it, no problem ;-)
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
There are two solutions if your drill broke and stuck in the post. First, you can try to drill with another drill bit over that broken drill bit. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it's a mess and you destroy two or three drill bits until you grind broken one that stuck. I like more second solution. Cut entire post or grind it with some tools and glue insert nut on place where post was. Search on google "inset nut" if you dont know what is it. Of course, thread in nut must be same as your screw. You can also use some longer nuts instead of insert nuts, they are called coupling nuts.
@Onemodelcaraday
@Onemodelcaraday Жыл бұрын
That's a great solution! In that way you can still open the car. In this case that would be handy because it's a Majorette Sonicflasher so you have to replace every 20 or 30 years. Oh wait: by that time I will be 90 years old :-) Ok, then my son can do it. Thanks for the advise, and keep up the good work. @@WhattoRepair

Excuse me but M2 screws, what kind of screws are they? 2mm long?
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
No, M2 screw has 2 milimeters outer thread diameter. This is metric screw or international standard screw, which is why the letter M stands in M2. M2 screws can have various lenght, lenght is not important. If you are using inches similar screw would be 5/64 or 3/32 inches.

@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks. I'm using 18G needles, or 18 Gauge. Dimensions are international standard, outer diameter is 1.27 milimeters and inner diameter is 0.838 mm. Lower gauge number means bigger needle. You can see here in this table all needle sizes, so you can search other sizes if you need.

hey i was wondering if you know an easy way to take out the tires of the hot wheels premiums cars since the thing that holds the set of tires is metal?
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
You can use some wire cutter pliers to cut those notches that holds the axle. If you are comfortable to work with power tools and you have dremel then you can use some grinding bits for dremel. But wire cutters do the work.

Hi. I tried this method today ( got tired of the thread making tool ) but the screw i use is maybe too soft... The threads wear off while screwing them in. Any suggestion what type of screws i should use ? Thank you in advance.
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
I never had such problems. You probably have some soft metal screws, aluminum or some soft iron alloy. Try to find steel screws. You can find them in most of hardware stores and in online stores. I use stainless steel screws. Stainless steel should be higher quality alloy and more durable than regular steel.

hey, i got a question does the base stay if i just snap back it to the body to put it back together? i dont have any kind of sources rn
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
It can stay if you drill rivet carefuly so you dont remove entire rivet. But it doesnt stay strong, you can easy remove it with fingers any time. Best way is to drill a hole and make thread for screw.

@defnotaken Жыл бұрын
@@WhattoRepair how do u make thread tho? like just screw it after drilling in and out?
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair Жыл бұрын
Yes, I was making threads like this in the beginning, when I didn't had proper tools. It's the easiest way to screw in and out. Diecast metal is pretty soft and you can use screw to make a thread by screwing in and out. I'm using M2 screws for almost every car. You can find M2 screws in old CD-ROM, floppy drive and similar electronics, or you can buy it online. If you can order online you can buy M2 tap and make threads even more easily. M2 taps are very cheap, they cost 50 cents on Aliexpress, for example. I don't know where are you from and do you use metric system. In Europe we use metric system. M2 thread means that diameter of screw is 2 milimeters. Before making thread you must drill a pilot hole with a drill bit. Ideal drill bit for M2 thread is 1.6 milimeters, but I'm using 1.5 mm too and you can also make a thread successfully, but you must be little more careful not to break something, because if hole is smaller it will be harder to turn screw or tap. If you have any questions just ask and I will help you.

Needle size is 18 gauge needle. This is international standard. It has 1.27 mm outer diameter and 0.838 mm inner diameter. Axles on standard 1/64 cars like Hot Wheels or Matchbox are 0.8 mm diameter so it fits perfectly.

Dear god, please warn about dangerosity; my hand stil have scar of a 4mm drill bit that slip into it :/ Recommend using at least heavy gloves, or mini vise to drill car.
@WhattoRepair
@WhattoRepair 3 жыл бұрын
Well, everyone needs to judge situation by his ability to handle with tools. Gloves and safety glasses are always recommended to use. I would not recommend to use mini vise in any way, you can easily damage your car. This hobby is not playing with cars, you can hurt yourself everywhere if you are not careful enough and people should be aware of this. This is not channel for kids and I think I don't need to warn people about every move I made. This is really low rotation speed and one of safest jobs while customizing cars. If someone doesn't feel comfortable to work with drills at this speed then they should not doing this.

@Julien R. no one in their right mind thinks this hobby isn't dangerous even if you're just using scissors. have your parents do the cutting for you if you want to pursue this hobby and if you can't take care of yourself. better yet, change to a different hobby if you're clumsy enough to injure yourself easily and if you're the type of person who always needs to be warned because they don't recognize which type of activities are dangerous and are not. this may not be the right hobby for you. just saying.
