Thankyou for sharing your thinking process in the field. I often argue with myself for taking too many photos, but I'm always experimenting, so how can I stop! It was lovely to hear you say don't overthink it and try to get the "right" one, just enjoy the process. I totally get it. 🙏

Your videos are always so interesting! I really like that you present your workflow on the field ! So well explained. I like your flow without the tripod! I recognized my self when you said : Don't take the same pictures over and over 😀 ! I put my tripod in one place and I am shooting almost the same picture for a ridiculous number of frames! LOL ! I learned so much from your videos! Thank you !

Great overview. It would be interesting to know how much you use apps like PhotoPils, weather reports, or even webcams in your planning before you head into the field. For example, I live in the San Diego area where we have four different micro climate zones. At my house 10 miles inland, it can be sunny and clear, but at the coast, it can be completely overcast with a thick marine layer. Fortunately, there are a number of live webcams along the coast that I'll check before making the drive. Having a tool like that tells me whether the sunset will be a bust or not, saving time and fuel.

Similar here. See my post about 5-6 videos back where I show some forecasting and pursuing an epic sunset.

Ah, I'm so jealous of what you have access to in NZ. I live in Perth, WA and to get anywhere cool I have to drive minimum 3-6 hours to get anywhere of interest. I might have to come along for one of your south island workshops at some point!

Sounds like a plan! I visited Perth last year, at least you’re still in a beautiful part of the world. It could always be worse! 😅🙏🏻

Hey Will, great vid. Just wondering if you still keep all the unedited raw files or delete them and only keep 2-3 good ones and only put them in the portfolio, just wondering as I saw that a lot of pics get taken, but are they kept? Cheers thanks heaps, keep up the good work!
@WilliamPatinoPhotography5 ай бұрын
I try delete stuff I know I’ll never process or share, but inevitably there’s still lots that kept. Sometimes you just don’t have time to go back and delete. Sometimes you’re not sure, so it’s best to leave them and look at them again down the track. Thanks mate.

what focus setting do you use in your camera? wide?
@WilliamPatinoPhotography3 ай бұрын
Usually just leave it in the centre. Easier to direct where it is hitting.
@alexandrearc3 ай бұрын
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography Thanks William. I leave it in center too. I am finding it hard to have everything sharp on my photos. It is possible the aperture then..

Hi William. Enjoyed your video/photos! I'll be in Te Anau mid September, and really looking forward to getting some landscape images...hopefully with the amazing sunsets there. I've noted the low tide/sunset times too, so crossing my fingers. The lake is huge, so are you able to tell me spot you were in to take these images? Cheers.

@WilliamPatinoPhotography4 ай бұрын
Yeah it is a tough hobby if you're not located in the right area. Like a fisherman not being near water. Hopefully you can do some weekend trips to scenic areas. I am in New Zealand.

G'day Will. When you checked your histogram you got a highlight warning but ignored it. Perhaps it was the sun, but to what extent would you ignore those warnings?
@WilliamPatinoPhotography5 ай бұрын
The histogram wasn’t clipping, just the screen. Ignore the screen and just use the histogram. I should turn it off to be honest. Think of it as a caution that you’re getting close to clipping but not actually clipping.

I never give a hoot about composition long as the view looks good to me . That's all that matters to me . Because am not taken pics to make others happy .. that ain't my priority .
