In this tutorial we look at how to take better portraits in low light and at night time. In this photoshoot I used the Sigma Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens. We discuss the camera equipment I used for the photoshoot, the camera settings, as well as lighting techniques and the editing process in adobe photoshop!

Curious as to why you used LEDs instead of a speedlite. For the ease of exposure? Nevertheless, great video and dialogue. Very informative. I enjoy watching other creatives' processes.

Yo Brill I find a speedlite to be too powerful often even at the lowest settings with a grid!

The most important 2 things to get this image as you did, you are forgetting to mention and that are: Focal length and distance to your subject cause that determines your DOF . Since her whole body and most of the tiles around her are in focus , focussing on her eyes is of less importance also since she is too far away. Or do you think people are pixel peeping on her eyes. Shutterspeed is not so important cause she is not moving and shooting with lower speed you are able to take the ISO down, unless you don't have a steady hand. Mixing white light from the LED with colored ambient light makes her spooky, ambient is yellow , see reflections on the ground, so a CTO gel would be in place.

Thats a great video and I have learnt some things but how would you do things differently if photoshop was not available? I have photoshop and use it make images pop as well but at present not the time to sit and post process extensively because I am travelling. I have to get the photo right there and then. I won't have a light on me like you do because what I photograph is more spur of the moment. Thanks for any further tips.

You have giant light 💡 💡 in first and the second was neon sign, I don’t think this is NIGHT, low light. I’m looking for help with night, a closed up building. This is really dark, like cemetery 🪦 🪦

Academically speaking what is a low aperture lens. Modern none formally trained google self taught youth shooter big number small number. Wide opening or fast lens stopping down or opening up traditional photography terminologies are lost

Great vid, really want to start getting into this kind of photography hey. Like the idea of using a constant light source instead of a flash too, do you have any problems with sharpness and noise tho? Oh and I'll SUB if you promise to stop mispronouncing ISO lol. It's not EYE ESS OH, it's EYESO. It's a word, not an initialization/acronym ;) Just sayin :P
