Whoever is reading this please listen so this doesn't happen to your birds. If you are a bird enthusiast and you have more than 2 in a cage I would keep this in mind. My birds have suffered and a couple were fatal of pneumonia. Little did i realize covering their cages kept dust in the cage. Pneumonia is caused by bacterial infection, the dust really helps with these infections. If you have parakeets like mine that like to be little scavengers and eat dropping on the bottom this is ok. But it isn't helping the prevention of pneumonia. Be sure to dust and clean the cage as well every day or two. You may cover the cage half way or not at all depending on if you sleep in the same room. Half way to help keep them warm and the blue light from your phone away so they can sleep. I wish I knew this when I was a beginner at owning birds. Please don't let this happen to yours.

Te pig will the bird wake up if the blanket is not covering the cage completely? also if I clean the cage everyday, should I just do a quick cleaning?
@akiraotoishi57567 жыл бұрын
Anna Exline Well it all depends. If you get morning sun I would purchase black out curtains or blinds so they wont wake you up so early. Everyday I change the paper on the bottom and clean the water. I clean and refill it depending on how much they ate or if there is droppings on the food. Hope this helps. These tips arnt just for parakeets. Many parrots react the same way.

Just adopted my first birdie. My sweet baby is handicapped, she’s got a deformed foot so the pet store thought she couldn’t perch, therefore they didn’t give her any perches in her cage, but we tried & she perches just fine & loves it. She sits up on her high perch & watches what’s going on in the house, or the TV lol.

My step father bred budgies, and canaries. He brought a young budgie into the house and it became the household pet. It wasn't long before Joey, yes Joey, took over. His cage door was permanently open during the day, but closed at night, and covered while he slept. He became quite tame and would fly around the room, land on my head, or shoulder. He would nibble my year and chat away. For Sunday lunch, he had his own small saucer with an assortment of vegetables on it. Any attempt to lock him in his cage at lunch time met with much squawking, so my mother gave in to him, and he became a constant companion at the dining table. He soon picked up speech, and used to call me in the morning. "Brian, get up, it's 8 o'clock " , he woukd screech. One day my step father went out to his aviary, leaving the kitchen door open. Joey flew out, but didn't go very far. My stepfather heard a tapping noise, and there he was knocking his beak against the window. I could go on, but you get my drift. Joey was one intelligent bird. I loved him, and I miss him like anything.

Some great tips m8! Honestly, I have every one of these xD. But its great for first time budgie owners. But, plastic perches are okay as long as they have some sort of gap in between them. Also, don't feed them tap water xD it might build up and collect more germs. Not to be rude, as I love your channel so far. Oh yes! I love the idea of blankets, as not many careworkers I've seen use nothing as a cover, and as a result, the budgie(s) get a bit spooked. Hehe. New sub comin through! xD

I've been researching and here's what I have seen so far: feed your bird bird seed, a cuddle bone is good for vitamins, a vitamin rock, WARNING DO NOT FEED YOUR BIRD THESE: avocado, Chocolate, coffee, alcohol and of course drugs. Always keep your bird happy and socialize with your bird cuz it keeps it stimulated and happy or get two budgies. Always and I mean ALWAYS keep your bird cage clean so your bird doesn't get sick also don't clean cage with household cleaning agents use bird cleaner witch you can get at a pet store, make sure you change the water everyday, this prevents bacterial infection from the water and don't crowd the bird cage with toys, and get a wide cage not a tall cage. Please comment if you think I'm ready to get one 😁

giselles coffin why would u want a pet rat? There was a boy who died from his rat... also they are grosa
@ExtraEdgyOtter7 жыл бұрын
Uh, Rats are not "Gross" They make amazing pets, they're honestly much better than hamsters. Rats almost never bite you, they'll lick you, but almost never bite. They're social and active animals, when I had mine, i had a pair, the first one (Chancy) was active, Rats are much more intelligent than any rodent you could even think of buying! They're playful and can easily build bonds with the people in their homes, and can even be taught tricks! Even if that boy did die, I believe the story you're talking about is from a pet store. Although I'm sure not all--MOST Store-bought pets end up dying, or having some sort of disease, where do you think these pets come from? they come from major pet-mills that allow dead animals to just rot in cages with dozens of other live ones, spreading disease easily. I got my two rats from a breeder, although Chancy had to be put down at age one due to tumors, Mew (My favorite second rat~!) manged to live nearly three years, before having to be put down, (I don't remember that reason, all I know is it made it hard to breath and eat, to the point that it was painful) Mew would've died on her own if she didn't have a bond with me, we discovered her illness one night when I wasn't there to watch them, she refused to eat for two days, but when I came back, she happily sat and ate with me.

Guys THIS VIDEO IS PERFECT there is only one wrong thing. Budgies are really social animals and when you are traveling/away from home or just being busy with something budgies don't get lots of attention since they live in groups you should give it a bud, depends of the type/temper a conure or finch or another budgie should do.

Very true! THey will become antisocial and stop eating, because all they want is the bird of his/her dreams, which is themselves Female budgies are affected the most, they will overlay eggs and it will eventually lead to egg binding, where the egg gets softer and softer due to calcium deficiency, shells will become soft and will lead to getting stuck in a female, which leads to death!!

So maybe one of you bird owners out there can help me out... I'm a sophomore in high school, and I've been wanting a bird, specifically a budgie for a long time. I finally feel like I'm finally mature and responsible enough to care for one, but I'm still in school from 7:30 - 2:30 Monday - Friday for another 2 years, so he'll probably be alone in my room for almost 7 hours. Is that too much? Can they be kept alone for 7 hours straight, so long as they have food/water and enough toys and mental stimulation? Thanks for any replies!

when i got a bird, he really wanted to get out, we opened the door and left him alone. 5 mins later he sat on each family members head and talked to all of us. he was so social, and really didnt mind the new environment, he had seen a few of us before multiple times and liked us, so im guessing he only was thinking about the people around him more than anything.

My budgie was the same. But she now eats fruits on her free will. I started by very finely chopped the fruit and mixing it in with the daily seed. Then go up from there

Really DO NOT give the budgie a mirror. It causes depression and psychosis in the budgie, since it thinks that the reflection is another bird, and tries to feed it, which it obviously can't. Please, just get two budgies instead

IMPORTANT WARNING FOR PET BIRD OWNERS: The food that we normally give to the canaries (and other companion birds) consisting of a "complete, balanced and top-quality seed mixture" bought in pet shops or supermarkets, makes the owners trust that their pet is well fed, but it is not like that: in reality the health of the pets is at imminent and serious risk. The owners of canaries, parrots, cockatoos, parakeets, nymphs, etc., WE MUST PAY ATTENTION TO DOMESTIC BIRD BREEDERS AND VETS and keep in mind that although we feed them with such a typical seed mixture, our birds are very likely in danger of suffering an unexpected, painful and practically inevitable PREMATURE DEATH by HEPATITIS FOR FATTY LIVER. Canaries, for example, will surely die at 4 - 6 years of age of the more than 14 that they can live. It is discouraging that in a time like nowadays, in which food is studied in detail for other pets such as dogs and cats, pet birds are condemned to die painfully and prematurely in so many cases. You have to warn people so they can avoid it! This deadly disease is very common in pet birds but owners usually don’t know or detect it in time. And we can not imagine that THE CAUSE IS IN THE FOOD ITSELF that we provide to our birds, in which such a typical mixture contains low-fat seeds such as canary seed together with other VERY fatty seeds such as niger, hemp or nabine and, in addition, the bird usually prefers to eat the fatty seeds, so that its REAL DIET is unbalanced by excessive fat, gradually causes the fatty infiltration of the liver and in a few years causes fatty liver hepatitis and PREMATURE DEATH to companion birds in general. It is a cruel disease that progresses silently and, when the unexpected symptoms suddenly begin, they are imprecise, easily confused with other ailments, so the owners usually postpone the visit to the veterinarian at a time already critical for the life of the bird (besides that not all vets are trained to recognize this elusive disease, even to administer lipotropic liver protectors and regenerators in curative doses, just in case it is that and not a supposed blow). It is a process of slow and asymptomatic development, but when their visible symptoms unexpectedly begin the disease accelerates. SYMPTOMS OF THE ACUTE PHASE OF FATTY LIVER HEPATITIS: First, emotional decay or progressive lack of interest, hard belly (in many specimens, with a dark spot with a half-moon shape on the belly, to see it you have to wet your fingers to remove the down), falls from the sticks of the cage that seem for "errors of calculation" and then lameness more or less accentuated (that make believe that they are by the previous falls, but both symptoms are due to that it hurts the liver), lack of flight and singing, the bird fluffs up its feathers or inclines more or less slowly; Then, within a few weeks and even in a few days, forced breathing with an open beak, remaining lying on the floor of the cage near the food, sudden spasms from time to time (which make people believe that the bird is "epileptic" or which has a "tumor"), abundant greenish stools (caused by biliverdin which if it's not fasting, it means hepatic harm), then black and watery (from hepatic hemorrhages), then a strange somehow purple color of skin and beak, an exaggerated appetite and the final "improvement" of a few days (in the last phase, the already degenerated liver becomes deflated by what seems to be getting better), after which it suddenly dies among seizures (which may seem a heart infarct). For the first symptoms the liver has already degenerated to 80% and only an urgent (and accurate) veterinary action can save your bird and revert the liver situation. If you simply feed your bird with the loose seed mixture (even if you eat fresh fruits and vegetables and exercise, for example by letting them out of the cage at home), right now your pet's liver is degenerating, and does not know. Also the breeding paste and its pigments and sunflower seeds can attack the liver if they are taken too much or too long. Without liver protectors, it is almost certain that your bird will prematurely die and in many cases you will not be able to determine its real cause. For this reason, in addition to administering lipotropic and detoxifying / regenerating hepatic birds preventatively and routinely, breeders usually make their own mixtures with low fat seeds. The time to act is NOW that your pet does not have yet the visible symptoms. It is necessary to ACTIVELY PREVENT THE HEPATIC DEGENERATION. Fortunately it is easy to do it: You have to substitute the mixture of loose seeds for some feed composed of seeds (preferably those that already include liver protectors), because this prevents the bird from eating mostly what it likes the most and, whatever the diet, it is ESSENTIAL to add every day to the drinking water or to the food a LIVER PROTECTOR, a lipotropic that includes the famous carnitine (which is also indicated for humans) and / or choline, lysine, betaine, methionine, threonine (and it is very convenient to supplement with another liver protector detoxifying and regenerating with milk thistle, boldo, artichoke extract). The liver protectors are amino acids, vitamins (of which they have a protective effect on the liver, such as vitamin C), fatty acids and essential oils that remove the fat from the liver, clean it, protect it and favor its recovery. They are cheap food supplements and it is essential to add them to your diet to conserve your liver. It is something that professionals as breeders and vets know, but we the owners usually don't know. Even, it are increasingly appearing in the market compound feed for companion birds that don’t include fatty seeds and that already include several liver protectors. But the vast majority of owners still confidently feed their birds with the typical mixture of loose seeds with little fat and other very fat seeds... And their birds continue dying of hepatitis due to fatty liver in a large number of cases (probably, in most cases). Now we know that, as fatty liver hepatitis develops from the daily food itself, it’s most likely THE FIRST CAUSE OF DEATH OF PET BIRDS, and more likely as the bird grows older. Some web pages that I have found about it (in Spanish). For example, this page echoes the wrong food situation in which these animals are too often: www.timbrado.com/malnutricion.shtml And on this other page: www.veterinaria.org/revistas/redvet/n111110B/111004B.pdf it’s described that the clinical manifestations of hepatic diseases in ornamental birds are much more frequent than people could imagine and that in many cases they are not appreciated, passing on in a silent way and when they are evident, veterinary action can (usually) be delayed. Emphasize that, in general, practically any avian symptomatology should be considered as if it were a pathology that could be serious, and not allow the disease to develop because then it will probably be too late. To do this, we must thoroughly investigate the symptoms, take preventive measures that do not harm (such as giving liver and intestinal protectors according to the leaflet) ask for advice from veterinarians, breeders, etc. and administer the most appropriate treatment RAPIDLY, but without rushing in the treatment or with the doses in such small animals. If the days go by and the bird does not improve, it is necessary to continue investigating and, if necessary, change the medication in an informed and contrasted manner. Doing nothing or stopping research usually ends up with the bird dead, but acting without being sure of what is done and in what dose, it likely ends the same way. Finally, it is necessary to obtain and confirm the sufficient veterinary experience and have the serenity to determine in each case whether it is convenient to hasten to do and / or administer what medicine and in what dose, or if it is better not to do and let the situation evolve without medicating for the time being, or according to the medication that has already been administered. And that a limp in a bird is not always an injury caused by a blow, but the symptom of a disease of some organ (usually the liver or an intestinal disease) that needs to be discovered and treated as soon as possible. When in doubt, change diet to one with the lowest possible fats (only birdseed, or birdseed with other low-fat seeds such as millet, chia, fresh fruits and vegetables) and administer lipotropic and regenerating liver protectors in curative doses immediately ... although nothing could foreshadow a fatal outcome. Acidcare also has protective properties of the intestinal mucosa and stimulants of the immune system. In doses according to the leaflet do not cause damage and will surely save the life of your bird (if it is not too late).
