Great tips Big B, Polycarbonate was used in motorcycle helmets back in the 80's/90's. Not sure if they still use it today, they were not supposed to be painted over with solvent based paint products, and certain decal adhesive was a possible issue too. Hopefully Proboat Polycarb is UV resistant, because exposure to strong sunlight can turn Polycarb brittle.

Most of your breaks/cracks appear to be where there is a stress riser on the hull, so the effects of any degradation will appear there first. Yeah, the 90mph "landings" may have something to do with it, but you make some good points there. I don't have any PC hulls, but should one ever find its way into my fleet, I will keep in mind what you have said here.

Great Info. I wonder if that was your problem with the same breaking loose? Maybe it was getting into whatever they use to bond it and breaking that down also?

I'm starting to think the same thing brother,, Wish I'd known about the alcohol and degreaser thing about a month and a 1/2 ago my boat might still be in one piece

Mann, good to know I also have been using iso for epoxy prep.... You should see how far you can get with no blueprint on the new hull and prove what kind of a difference it can make when you're pushing top performance 🤟🤟, thanks again for the videos!

Yo big B, out at the river, we use a 25/75 mixture of vinegar/water to take the spots off the boat after getting it up on the trailer. I am thinking about using the same thing or maybe even more diluted to clean the BJ42. Do you think this mixture would be too acidic for the polycarbonate?

I really hate to say yes or no, don't want to steer you the wrong direction

Frontal impact bent crumpled the nose but the boat was fine. I'm very sure the polycarbonate became brittle to split open from the flips. Water is not as hard as concrete and plastic can get brittle enough to fall apart by a light touch. Little dish washer soapy water in a spray bottle is a very cheap and effective to clean most dirt. Used on my helmet visor many times too.

Good thing I never drive in salt water and need any cleaning products afterwards. I just wipe my boat with a towel and that's it. In between, the boat is sprayed with wax. (Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax ) I also use for my car. 😉😉

Hey man I got a question. I have the sonicwake v2 with the rc boat bitz hardware kit on it. Everything else is stock and I was running it with an oxidean marine 4216 3 blade and it rips but I lost it in the lake. I bought a prop from offshore electronics that is also a 4216 3 blade but the boat will not go any faster than 15 mph. Nothing was changed just a new prop but it can’t get up on plane. I noticed the machining marks were a little more noticeable. Do you think it’s cavitating? Please help!!
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir sounds like cavitation, all you can do is try to trim the boT up a little more so it gets up out the water quicker possibly less cavitation?
@ryanbanshee26362 жыл бұрын
Ok I’ll try that and try to polish the prop to get the machining marks out. Thanks!

It should be fine, basically don't make a habit of whipping poly down w/ alcohol.

Lol. I know right. I did quite a bit of research and found the majority of the cleaning procedures recommended windex. So I'm just relaying the information, like I said I'm no professional shoot I'm just finding out about the whole chemical/ poly deal... just trying to help

Good to know. I’ve been using ISO periodically. My polycarbonate is painted with 2k clear so it should be ok, but this is good information
@garrettkifer83322 жыл бұрын
But by this video, that 2k clear would have destroyed the polycarbonate long before it could cure, some extremely volatile solvents within clear.The chemicals mentioned in this video are fine, 80+ mph crashes aren't.

Good information ℹ️, for future reference. My Virgen Blackjack 42 has neither seen a “cleaner” nor any water 💦 other than my bathtub 🛁 yet. Upon your guidance I have installed the 2 waterline cooling, and the propeller from rcboatbitz along with the trim taps. My Blackjack 42 will make its maiden voyage tomorrow 🎉, and with a slow and diligent trigger finger.

Good info but I bet hitting the water at 80 plus multiple times may have contributed just a tad bit more. Think what would happen to a full size off of one flip, complete carnage. So personally not a fan of polycarbonate hulls but I can't knock how tough they are especially for being so light, very impressive.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
I think using the wrong chemicals to clean my boat caused the polycarbonate to get brittle? Idk. I do know that your right about the 80 mph flips causing the damage lol. I seriously can't believe how tough these boats are.
