For boots, as I've commented earlier, are rubber boots, so I don't have to do anything. For drying the tent, I pitch it open and loosely tied down so the wind and whatever sun there is does the job (even if it rains, that works),. For clothes it depends, sometimes I put them on top of the tent, sometimes on rocks. But it's not usually an issue when hiking, my body temperature most often dries up the clothes, and I use a raincoat if it rains, so it's more after washing them that I have to do that. I have never used a rain cover for my backpacks, and never had a problem with moist clothes or soggy food etc in them. I guess that depends a bit on the material of the backpack, but I've been using everthing from cotton/flax to nylon/polyester, they probably get a bit heavier but as long as the knäckebröd is crisp I'm a happy camper. The most important thing, I think, is to be proactive. If you start getting warm, take off some clothes. As soon as the rain starts (or even before) put on the raincoat. And catch the moment, if it's been pouring rain all day, once it stops put out your wet things to dry up, even if it's just for 10 minutes, they will be less wet, repeat and they will eventually be dry.

I don't have gortex boots, but walk with trail runners or Bedrock sandals (in the summer). Of course, they both dry very quickly. My husband walks in Salomon boots (which is supposed to be gortex, but when it rains hard it gets wet too). It does last a very long time though - he has walked with his boots for more than 2500km now and apart from a bit of stitching coming loose, they still look brand new! We also have several dry bags in which we pack our clothes, sleeping bags, toiletries, etc. and then into the backpack. We have always been lucky that our tent got dry before we started walking again ... but then it doesn't rain here in SA as much as in Sweden, I think 😉.

Those boots sounds great 👍 yes we really need more dry bags next time we go out to hike. Lucky you that never had to pack down a wet tent. Here it’s rain too much 😀
