Thank you for your very ASMR videos 🤗 You are very generous to share your insight and experience in a way that inspired me to tackle an insurmountable task. Today I finally started on the re-repair of a 4-ish foot long crocodile, an italian ceramic. The tail, completely broken off nearly 40 years ago, was chunked into place with a few shards using Super Glue. I used the bathtub lined with towels to soften the glue and as I removed a LOT of excess from around the cracks (40cm in circumference) I felt thoroughly discouraged at the idea that the tail might be too hefty to actually disengage. So I refilled the tub with HOT water and went away to do some baking. Half an hour later, the tail came apart during an experimental wriggle-tug ... 🎼Joy!🎵 It took a couple of hours to clear away the 50million+ tubes of SuperGlue but the pieces are now hydrogen peroxided, with glass bowls acting as protective domes inside the plastic bags held in place by rubber bands. Your advice to use HOT water is definitely key. Thanks again! The glue peeled away like coagulated egg yolk. As soon as I began chipping instead of peeling - back into the tub! The water was refreshed at least five times but after the pieces separated they needed only enough to soak the edges that I was working on so, overall, still less than a full bath. Another very valuable takeaway was to be patient and work in smaller sections. My enthusiasm got the better of me at one point and I went gung-ho, but the edge cooled down, the glue hardened and the chippy-peel turned into a brutal hack. Lesson learned. I am thoroughly looking forward to washing Oscar (the crocodile) tomorrow and prepping him for reassembly. Thank you, too, for taking the time to create Playlists for us. It makes re-referencing SO much easier. Much appreciated!

Hey just tried this and it worked. I had a rooster kitchen show piece which i found in a thrift store. I was sooo damn happy to find it that i accidentally broke it. I tried my best to save that with super glue but it was horrible. I always used to wonder how can i fix this. And today finally after watching this video i tried and within 7-10 minutes all the glue came off. Need to watch the next video to fix it. Much love from India. ❤

Hi Ally, you can use heat from an oven top. it doesn't damage the paint. and doesn't matter what glue it is but it will come off faster. and is faster when you peel the glue off. just move it back and forth from the heat. gas stove. worked fine every time and is very fast. just don't overdo it with the heat. cheers

What can remove epoxy glue on surface of porcelain & glass pieces is Oven Cleaner. Leave it on for an hour then lift it off . It turns the epoxy into a jell substance, regular glue too & can be picked off with tweezers or a exacto- knife. Oven Cleaner also removes any kind of paint off, mainly acrylic pain, porcelain or glass pieces, it melts it right off!

Thank you for this information. I purchased a figurine with a bad repair job hoping that I could repair the repair! The part of the figure that needs to be repaired may be cold painted, and I am concerned about leaving it in hot water for any length of time. Do you have a different way to safely losen the old glue on a cold-painted piece?

Hi Robert, I have spoken Rustins and they unfortunately don't sell the product in America. There is a ceramic glaze by Winsor and Newton, which although I have never used would be my next choice. They are a good brand. Hope this helps. Please let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching. 😀

Hi Alison, what kind of glue would I use to put together the tip of a teapot and be able to use it for serving tea? It's bone china. Thank you.

I wouldn't recommend using any glue as it softens in hot water. You could try Milliput as it is self adhesive , if it is a missing piece.

I usually use a heating gun to soften old glue and disassemble bad glued parts. Is there a reason to prefer hot water which didn't work for me many times?

Hi, Alison-- With zero knowledge or background, I offered to repair my friend's beloved vintage/antique ceramic tiger that was very badly damaged. He's still in process right now. It's a long story but my question for you is this. There are some wide cracks (1-2mm) that are open--none of the slivers that may have once existed are still there. So, can I rub some Craftsmart Air Dry Modeling Clay (which is what I used to make a new tail piece) into the cracks and then paint? Do I have to put glue in the cracks first? (I used epoxy to glue the legs back on.) If I can fill in these cracks somehow and then paint, it will greatly help the appearance of the piece. I'm loving your videos--thanks for the interesting and useful information! When I started this project, I hadn't discovered you yet, but once I did, I'm watching all your videos. Thanks much! (P.S. From Los Angeles, California. And I've subscribed!)

Hi Joy, many thanks for your comment I am so pleased you are enjoying my channel. If you have cracks you could try filling in with your modeling clay then paint when dry. I personally use Milliput as I no it will adhere in cracks without using glue. Please let me know how you get on. 🥰

Hi Ally, will this hot water method work on epoxy resin? I tried to fix a cup before coming across your channel and have glued it quite badly and am hoping to pull it apart and start again
@theceramicrepairstudio
@theceramicrepairstudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, I would try the hot water method first. Failing that then move onto using acetone. Obviously if you have any hand painting or guuilding be very careful, also it depends what material your cup is made of. I think I will do a video on this soon. Please let me know how you get on. 💕

Hi Heidi, sometimes I use acetone if the glue is stubborn and won't come off with water. I have demonstrated in a couples of videos, but perhaps show in an upcoming video. 🥰💕🍀
