Probably a more effective way to use the bottom section of Cornell notes is to list questions to test your recall of the content above, rather than further summarising. Questions stimulate recall which stimulates memory.

I love the intro. I also like how you were realistic and said that students don’t really have enough time to take those super aesthetic notes on Pinterest. It’s really something toxic that makes it seem like you need the prettiest notes even though it may not help. Having pictures do help some people but some things are way over the top and are also not the best solutions for everyone. Everyone has their own different learning style that helps them. I think it’s because the way she does it, she’ll be doing those things anyways (making a title, etc) so why not choose a prettier font? She doesn’t waste excess time doing unnecessary things TO make them pleasing to look at, they’re just naturally organized and you can always add personal touch to notes without spending any extra time (picking highlighter colors, fonts, text colors, using digital ruler to make straight lines, etc)

Hello everyone, not to make anyone lose the motivation or anything but. Don’t ever rewrite your notes. Rewriting your notes will waste some time you can read/revise/test yourself in. I usually just understand the material and take screenshots then write my notes when I reach my home. This had been discussed a lot by many college students and I see it as a very good explanation why sometimes even with the prettiest notes, you still aren’t able to grasp the information in a healthy and normal way. I hope this helped you, don’t worry about anything though. Rewriting your notes is completely acceptable but might waste your time if you are kind of insecure about how capable you are in this subject. Again, hope this helped you and good luck on anything you are doing :D Edit: if you thought there was some sort of exaggeration I deeply apologize and would appreciate you reading my reply, thank you and good luck! 💜

Agree. I am currently on my second year of medical school and I swear I won't be able to cover all of the materials if I rewrite my notes. Active recall is my go-to method!
@Inbedwhereelese4 жыл бұрын
But different things work for different people so this definitely isn‘t blanket advice just because it doesn‘t work for you
@vitamind46073 жыл бұрын
@@Inbedwhereelese You are absolutely right, but notice that sometimes you don’t really understand this subject that you are studying, what would you do? But of course everyone knows what makes them study better, you might like to rewrite your notes so you can realize that you understood this subject or you might find it extremely time wasting. But furthermore, I see that rewriting your notes might take away some valuable time that you might really need to revise in, but I see it sometimes extremely helpful to write definitions of the material you are learning, but I never rewrote it since as I said in my comment, it would waste time. And I prevented rewriting by taking pictures of everything we are learning and use my textbooks to write my notes neatly in home where I can invest all the time that I need on making them understandable factually and organizationally, and from all of this I have this result that it’s as I said completely acceptable to rewrite your notes if you feel that it makes you understand better, but surely need to grasp the information properly by reducing the time you write your notes in and increasing the time you read the material and understand it. I hope that everyone finds it easy to study after listening to everyone experiences and advice. 💜

You are correct. This is a great way for undergrad but I am currently in grad school and there is NO way we can write out ALL of our notes. Active recall is the best way to go. Writing out concepts we don’t understand is also a great way.

As someone who’s getting ready to go back to school and will be using an iPad this is very very handy. I really like the box method for note taking. It’s a lot easier for me to digest it’s like reading pamphlets. My memory isn’t what it used to be post accident and if it’s a lot of visual noise it overwhelms me so the cleaner it looks or more minimal will be a great start for me. Interpreting information in my own words was my biggest win in studying and note taking. In a class it’s better for me to read/listen and try to understand, THEN make notes. The Cornell method without summary is the MVP. I used it and made top tier in my class. Charting comes in handy when it comes to comparing and contrasting e.g the mesial view of the mandibular or maxillary molars and their root apertures etc. Also, you can copy your exact documents to a new page and turn the answer section to hyperlinks to quiz yourself. My advice is to be diligent and consistent with any method you use, and remember the name of the game is (do your best to save time)

I like these two programs because it's easy to keep organized in them and they sync in the cloud. I've gone mostly paperless. Sometimes I miss the paper, because doing side by side on the iPad itself, is sometimes too small of a format. I find that I cannot strictly use my iPad for school, I have to have a computer as well. Thank you for this. I had been struggling to mind a way to take notes that will work for me. Mostly I adapt my note-taking based on the class and subject. I do a modified Cornell.
