Hi Peter, I have missed 2 tips 😉, - Don't use your UV filter in front of the lens, because of bracking light on the filter it could give you green flares in your picture. - For Olympus users, don't use silent mode (electronic shutter), you could get anoying colour abbreviation in your picture. Robin Wong has explained this in one of his videos.
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
I have not really seen any color problems with silent mode. Yes I know that for some that might be a problem.

I recently tested HDR2 which offers both a jpeg and a raw against the new Capture One HDR merging tool and found HDR2 to be more pleasing and less noisy than the merged raw images. Unfortunately (but reasonable) the output of C1 HDR is a dng file - which is fine for further processing - but in DxO the prime and deep prime denoising functions are provided only for raw images. I often use live time mode for static motifs and observing the exposure results on the screen I stop exposure when the result seems to be pleasing - although I know that the screen (and EVF) produces only "primitiv" preview jpegs and in darkness exposure is even more difficult to evaluate from those sources. And thanks for reminding me to switch off IBIS (and IOS) when shooting on a tripod, I often forget that to do! To set a reminding message would ne helpful ...:-)

It depends a bit on what I am photographing. A wide-angle is very good for the cityscapes and a bit longer for details and people. Also, a fast lens is good, but not necessary.

Look into Laowa, TTArtisan and 7Artisan lenses. They have quite nicely priced lenses. Especially Laowa 10mm f2 is an good option. Laowa also has 7.5mm f2 lens.

Hi Peter, hope all continues to be good with you and your family. One question, doing automatic expo stacking or HDR in Olympus are you recommending turning of Ibis? Or just when doing it manually? All the best 👍👍
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I hope that everything is also fine with you and your family. If you photograph hand held HDR it does not matter that much. I still usually turn it off.

Would it be better to set the white balance manually using a piece of paper or whatever? With cityscapes you are going to have a mixture of light types.
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
That is one way to set the white balance.
@kamilpotato37643 жыл бұрын
Isn't camera technology advanced enough to skip it? Secondly tools in post process are good enough to skip white cards too?
@hpeterh3 жыл бұрын
I think because there are so many different light sources, "correct" white balance is technically impossible. Therefore adjust white balance by taste and shoot RAW, so you can fine tune it afterwards. Most probably these light sources, which you see in the image will not be the same that illuminate the paper or grey card and in this case this will not fulfill the purpose.

Curious about the “turn of image stabilization” tip. Does that apply to back button focus? I’ve seen other videos that have tested this tip out & “IS on” doesn’t affect the photos. So I’m wondering if this tip is only truly relevant to shutter button focusing. Thoughts?
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean. If you make image that are going to be stacked turning off the IBIS will make sure that the images are perfectly aligned. If the IBIS is on the crop of each photo is abit different.
@СеменАгапов-ю1г3 жыл бұрын
I use stacking of many (~20) underexposed images for night photography without tripod.

Is there any option to use one of the hdr modes without activating the mechanical shutter? I use exposure bracketing quite often in critical light situations but don't see any point in using the mechanical shutter on subjects that are not moving very fast. With electronic shutter, 5 or 7 exposures are made in 1/2 second and no tripod is needed :-)
@ericseale7933 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. Even if you have electronic shutter selected for your default setting, the camera will override that for HDR.
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
I will check into that and come back to you.

About the noise in photos: It’s always good to remember, that if you don’t have ANY noise in image, it might also look really unnatural and plastic…ish. I don’t mind having noise in photos, but some photographers get rid of all the noise and it doesn’t always look good.

One important tip you of course know, but did not mention: Use exposure compensation, and underexpose but at least one or two stops. The lightmeter of the camera is set up to take daylight pictures, therefore it will "turn night into day". To get the right nighttime mood we need to correct this, plus it will prevent blown out highlights and give you shorter exposures times for your handheld shots.
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
Yes that underexposure will happen if you use flag colors and use ETTR.
