My main focus is on the JJJ part, although we do some ground defense as part of our curriculum. We do not focus a lot on competition but rather teaching people to protect themselves.

The style of jiu-jitsu is called Can-Ryu, it is a canadian system based on japanese jiu-jitsu.

This technique was demonstrated in isolation in order to provide the student with an understanding of the movements. Your comments are valid but this is also why each takedown begins with distraction strikes. Thanks for your comments.

In my opinion the opponent would not take your back if you conduct a proper strike whether to the bridge of the nose, or the side of the neck or to the eyes. When the opponent is distracted by the effect of the strike(s) you can complete the takedown. If the opponent is not distracted don't do the ankle knee takedown. If the opponent attempts a nice uppercut you can protect yourself with a catch block. This is why its important to be a proper "defensive stance".

1:01 opponent takes your back. Or turns to his left (bringing his right leg across yours) and drops all his weight across your extended knee. Or steps back with his left leg and gives you a nice uppercut.

Ok well now I know for sure the style of Jiujitsu. Do you guys study bjj as well as jjj? I know that JJJ covers almost the full spectrum but theres some things....(well tbh alot of things) that JJJ uses that are illegal in competition
