It has been 40 years since I used the underground and I found it very easy to use. I did have prior experience with the Metro system in Washington, DC. The only mild confusion was while going down an escalator and a nice lady suggested, "Stand to the right, dearie". Glad to hear it will be easy to use on my next trip.

Waterloo to Richmond is £3.60 on contactless so your return ticket saved ... 10p. But you needed a Railcard for that 😁

We don't have a network as big, but we still have a network up north called Merseyrail. They operate services to Chester, Southport, Hunts Cross, West Kirby, Kirkby, and New Brighton. The trains are running some of the very first rail lines in the world via 3rd rail, and used to run of British Rail class 507 and 508 locomotives, till 2022 when the start of the release of the British Rail class 777s arrived.

Thanks for highlighting truly how excellent our transport system is! As a Londoner my entire life I didnt learn anything in this video haha but its great that you’re going against all the complaining Londoners that say we have the worst system in the world etc etc

Whilst the underground can be useful for getting around, it can elongate distances. Often you can walk between central London landmarks almost as quickly as going down to the underground, waiting and then coming back up and walking can be a much more pleasant experience.

Think you’ve confused things. Obviously, Richmond (Surrey) is in the Oyster zone. Open returns (Savers) provide a more practical ticket for longer trips.

It's nothing like buying a flight to New York on the day lol. I always just buy my tickets at the station on the day, and never bother with reservations. All National Rail should be one category imo. Even in your example it would only have been £40 extra for which you get the freedom to hop on any train within a month. It would only take one missed train or change of plans to cancel out years worth of savings you get by buying advance fares.
@AndrewAnd
@AndrewAnd Жыл бұрын
I think flexibility is nice, but also that clearly if its cheap enough and you're planning to catch a train anyway it's worth the saving. Especially since you can change an advance ticket on the day if you want

The section of the Overground that you took in the video, was apart of the London Underground, and was the East London Line. Until it closed on 22/12/2007, to be upgrade to and reopen as part of the Overground Line in 2010, which is way that part of the Overground is underground. Most of the Overground is overground, and a lot more then the Underground.

Sorry, but slightly confusing. Going to Richmond? Also “open returns” (off-peak) are frequently a better deal, if you don’t want to be tied to a specific train- stop off for a bit of exploration! Welcome to the world of National Rail fares 🤓

Can you show me how to take a plane from Gatwick to Luton?

Simple, spend hours at the airport and emit tonnes of emissions to go a few kilometres. (Or just get the train and change at East Croydon)
@andybaker2456
@andybaker2456 Жыл бұрын
Assuming you mean train, and not plane, you can catch a Thameslink train service from Gatwick straight to Luton Airport Parkway. From there you catch the new people mover from the station to the terminal. No change at East Croydon required.

I usually used the stansted express ticket for the 2for1 discounts. Problem was once that a bus was wayyy more convenient because I had a hotel at the wembley stadium. so i took the coach to golders green and a local bus to wembley park because the tube was closed. i missed the bus so i had to wait half an hour for the next one. there was a pizza place where i ordered water and they acted as if i was an alien because i was paying with a 20 gbp note. they had to get the manager. as if i wanted to pay with a 500 € note.... I had to get a tourist oyster card for my girlfriend because I wasnt sure if the tube station would have been open. and so i bought a day railcard to enjoy the 2for1 offers. It reduced the pain of paying very much.

nope ! cologne 3,20 € for more than 4 stations. munich 3,50 € for a city trip. I was honestly surprised it was so cheap . Whats not cheap is when you have to go to the bus and then the tube because the bus adds to the tube fare.
@georgiancrossroads
@georgiancrossroads Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewAnd I hate to tell you how cheap it is in Tbilisi Georgia, where I've been living. 1 lari per trip. (1 lari = 30p) Transfers for any metro, bus, even a few overhead trams. You have 90 minutes in which to commence any trip. (So you could get on a bus at the 89 minute mark that takes an hour to get to its destination in the mountains.) The metro isn't super extensive, but it comes very regularly and is fast. And the buses go everywhere. Come visit Georgia sometime.

@@jayparm I've been there and spent closer to 10 quid. I was only there for three days. My tube travel expenses were around 40 for that period. (2017) The Oyster card is not worth buying when you pass through so quickly. And my American card was not a tap card. So yeah It was a lot more than 5 pounds. It all seemed outrageously expensive. And I'm comparing it to New York and Paris.

I'm from outside london in a place with just one station so i'm not really used to public transport.. But I went to Japan, every single train I took in two weeks was correct, went to London, immediately got a tube going the wrong direction 🥲I don't know if its the north/east/west/southbound platforms or the way stations are listed but there's definitely something more complicated about it.
@chnet968
@chnet968 Жыл бұрын
There is usually a board somewhere on the platform listing all the stations left on the direction. So if you're confused, you had better spend some time to look for this board before continue. And talking about direction confusion, at least they're not like some stations outside London that only has one rail and one platform, serving both directions. The trains are usually scheduled half hours apart, but in case of delays they can come as close as 3 minutes, and they're possibility you get on the wrong train if you're not paying attention.
