This is probably the most important video for starting vloggers! My 2c about this topic. 1. Treating the camera as a person is something I came up by myself after awhile, but I wish someone would have told that tip at the start :D It was a game changer! 2.The fidgeting while filming can be your best friend or your worst enemy, because it may also seem like an anxiety driven activity. Doing it in moderately, can help you relax. 3.Challenging yourself by vlogging publicly, is one thing that really gives you confidence to do while you are at the comfort of your own studio. The rush you got from it is similar, what you experienced the first time while you were filming in your own studio. When you realize it internally, you understand how much you have grown as a content creator. Bonus: I'd like to add one tip which I learned while recording music: Unlike in live situations, you can always take a re-take after re-take until you are satisfied. No-one will know how much you stutter (or made mistakes) and they will only see the things you want them to see. Funnily enough after this realization, my bloopers/mistakes dropped significantly :D After awhile I even started to embrace them with humor rather than shame. Instead of avoiding them I occasionally gathered them in "blooper reel" for my viewers to see. Final words for those who are still struggling: Relax and be you, because no-one else can do that for you.

So Relevant - I filmed a video two days ago and I did my intro bit for the first time in front of a family who was camping where I was putting my canoe in the water. I'm so used to speaking to the camera when I'm completely alone in the wild but it was a fun experience trying it out in front of this family. they were super chill with the whole thing and cheered me on as I stumbled over 3 or 4 takes :p I went with a take I did much later when I was solo in my canoe but it was still good practice in front of them and I'm happy I gave it a whirl

Spot on Matti 👏👏 When I first started making video (5 years ago) I scripted every word (because I was not used to talk to a camera and my videos were on health topics) and that was a huge mistake as I used to sound unnatural and scripted. Now I try to talk to camera the same way I talk to people.

I’ve been a huge fan of this channel since travel feels. I have seen how you evolved in being confident in front of the camera. From the awkward and stiff looking (but informative) tutorials during Travel Feels to a very confident Matti , vlogging and just speaking and giving valuable insights in a fun and relaxed way. You’re very inspiring! Goes to show that being in front of a camera is not something you are born with. It comes when you practice and do it regularly.

I started recording daily vlogs for myself to keep track of work related topics. I used to write that stuff down, but I figured if I talk about something I am 100% comfortable with. It would help me get used to talking to the camera and serve as a “notebook”. I then asked my wife to just hang out when I record these vlogs. Now I don’t mind when people are around when I talk to a camera.

Love these tips. I'm still at the beginning but what I realized to what helps: After recording an entire video Putting everything jnto the timeline just to realize it's all out of focus and I have to start everything over. The second round is way more natural. Which taught me. To rehearse the entire video once can help 👍🏻

SUCH a great video on so many levels! Talking naturally to a piece of plastic, glass and metal is SO difficult and your tips REALLY helps! I also loved the sound mixing of this video, so much attention to detail. Did a lot to the flow and tempo of the video. Masterful Haapoja brothers! And THEN throughout your talking scenes in the studio I kept thinking "How does he get that great lighting in so many angles of that studio, mine kind-of just looks dark if I turn my head from the main light." Then it turned out you were moving the lights around for each scene. Haha. It looked so natural haha, you completely had me that you were just casually strolling around. KZbin Master doing his magic. Just love it.

As an Actor I've been in front of a camera many times and on stage solo in front of an audience and none of that is harder than being one on one with a camera doing a KZbin video. I've been doing it for over a year now and while it's getting easier it's still not easy. Bullet points seem to work best for me. I've tried full scripting and a teleprompter and both made me sound robotic. Like you said, Practice!

These tips are seriously GOLD!! Thanks Matti! It definitely comes with repetitions.. I'm a group fitness trainer who coaches 30-35 people in a single session, and the funny part is I use to freak out and get super flustered giving a simple class presentation in front of a group of 10 people. My first sessions weren't pretty, but now a year later I ROCK THEM!! I'm hoping to take that same mentality, and your advise, and up my youtube game now too💪🏼

My biggest tip for becoming a better speaker in front of the camera is to practise speaking in front of a mirror. It doesn't even matter what you say, just keep practising talking to yourself in front of a mirror and you'll slowly build the confidence you need to become better over time. That's how I got better, at least! 💪🏻
