The problem is that the main reason people I know, who I meet in my state, who like Trump, really like him because he allows them to be racists. They don't admit it but that's what it boils down to.

Sure, Trump has given racists, xenophobes, homophobes, misogynists and others the *Green Light* to bring that bad behavior into the daylight.

If it's a keyboard warrior just back up what you're defending with a quote from a conservative source like Business Insider or The Wall Street Journal and include the link. Then just say I've taken the time to find this for you so I hope you'll stop and read it. Thanks and have a good day. Try to avoid a long drawn out discussion based in emotion and don't let them make you angry. Avoid trolls at all costs because they're just bored and trying to get attention. Remember, the true believers have been programmed to believe what they're hearing in the right wing echo chambers over a period of years.

I keep communication open with him because I did have success when got sucked into becoming a holocaust denier, claiming that Hitler loved Jews because he built them a swimming pool at Auschwitz!! Some time later he told me that he had done some more 'research' and he believed I had a point, that maybe Hitler wasn't so friendly after all! Weird thing is, none of these policies are Socialist. They’re Social policies to create a public system within a capitalist system to coincide with a private market not abolish the private market. That’s why many of the most capitalist nations such as EU countries, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Japan & Singapore have these systems and are capitalist. But right wingers in the US believe “anything on the left of tax cuts & lack of government is Socialism”. Odd because many of these right wingers rely on these social policies lol.
@teresas81733 жыл бұрын
@@windowunixon7127 , often liberals are called communist as well...I’ve noticed an increase in the number of people on the right saying that as well. These provided safety nets within societies are seen as socialism ( socialism = evil) by many people up until the point where they themselves need them. And most disheartening is that even then they won’t acknowledge that they are benefitting from the very programs which they are so against they on top of it all loathe the left for supporting such programs. It’s such a paradox. It’s like red states voting GOP.... they use these “ socialist” programs the most yet contribute far less in taxes than what they use. The “ elitist” blue states provide the monies thru taxes we pay for these poorer states to to get along, yet we are the demonized left. I don’t mind my tax dollars helping those less fortunate...I just wish right wingers would see their hypocrisy and by doing so could recognize that its the liberals that have the best interest of the middle class and the struggling at heart. And also recognize that we in no way whatsoever want people to need these programs, just that we know the importance of having them in place WHEN NEEDED. Theres few of us who go through life without needing some help from others at some point. And if so, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. The right has quite successfully made the left the enemy to these people. The left needs to get the truth out to these mis- informed people/ voters and STOP letting the the GOP inaccurately define us. I think liberals need to be a lot more aggressive with their messaging and that why I’m so drawn to the very progressive liberals because they seem to be the few speaking up. It’s a formidable task to go up against head- strong and frankly brainwashed Trumpist Republicans.

@@VivaToddVegas Hey, good for you. Congrats! And I mean that with the utmost sincerity. Being able to reason with one's parents so they can make a better choice is a feat. Not sure I can do the same with my uncle though. I feel that if the reason they align with Trump is because they identify with the prejudice and bigotry, how does one reason with that? Then add to that an obnoxious arrogance...that's my uncle. So I don't bother discussing or reasoning with him. I'm just waiting for Trump to lose the election and end up charged at the NY courts and be utterly humiliated. Only when my uncle sees that fall from grace happen to his idol could it possibly change his mind about Trump. And even then, only maybe.

@@VivaToddVegas congrats on you being that persistent and ending up with your family intact. I agree that FoxNews is breaking our system while telling the courts "no reasonable person would ever take them seriously" (an actual arguement in Tucker Carlsons most recent defamation lawsuit). Please keep explaining that the owner/creator of FoxNews publically stated that it's "an entertainment channel that has an occasional news story" it's just opinions and therefore does not ever have to be honest or truthful, that's the real fact about them. Below is an excellent answer I found to define actual news and hopefully it helps others avoid getting sucked into any propaganda networks/media. "Fox News is not real news. It never has been. That was not their mission, at the time of their creation. It is not their mission, now. It is a propaganda tool, existing in the form of “entertainment.” (By the way, CNN is also not real news, and MSNBC is not real news.) Fox News, despite its name, is pure propaganda. Like all propaganda, its purpose is to manipulate thought. The purpose is not to report news. Real journalism does exist. Learn to recognize what it is, and what it isn’t. Then, stick to real journalism. I wrote this awhile back, to try to help those who were never taught basic journalism. Even with corporate ownership and profit motives, legit journalism still exists. (Despite that lie that Trump keeps telling). Yes, you do have to look harder and work harder to find it. But, it is still there, all around you. You probably remember these, from school? A while back? From the Society of Professional Journalists, and the resources that agree to always abide them, whenever they actually are reporting on any event, or occurrence: Real journalism is not biased, and it cannot be, by definition. Never confuse “the Media” with journalism. REAL JOURNALISM will always have: Two sources. Both sources must be independent, and both must be separately verifiable. Real journalism will always begin with the WWWWW (Who What Where….) No bias. No opinion. It must be objective, and written in the objective voice. 100% accuracy for each and every sentence. Fact-based. Include complete context, and where necessary, explain the complete context. No misrepresentations, no misinformation or disinformation. Provide balance. On any issue, or dispute, or potential disagreement, include both sides, in a fair and balanced presentation. Provide complete context, always. If the context requires explanation, provide it. In any dispute, contact both parties, and give the opportunity to respond. Always include those responses, and if no response, include that fact. Finally, in the event of any errors or omissions, publish and promote a prominent retraction. NO EMOTIONS ALLOWED. In the electronic age, one must typically visit a website, and so many intermix their “op-ed” and “editorials” right in with the legit journalism. But, you can usually spot the difference from the headline, as long as you keep the rules of ethical journalism in mind. If not, you will usually spot the difference within the first sentence. So, if you begin to read any article, or listen to any “news report” - and you notice there are not two sources cited, and named, or if you notice no mention that an opposing viewpoint was asked to respond, or if you notice any emotional language, or “outrageous!” language, or any bias, or you notice a lack of balance, even a tiny one - BACK OUT OF IT. Shut it down. You are being lied to. Avoid Fox. Always. Avoid CNN. Always. Avoid MSNBC. Always. (They almost never have any journalism, except by pure accident, and they never have. They do not subscribe to the code of the SPJ, that was never their mission.) All three have to fill a 24 hour / 7 day news cycle, and they do not even bother to hire journalists, typically -- and in the rare cases where they do, they hold them to no ethical standards of journalism. No rules, at any of those three. And DEFINITELY avoid the hundreds of fake news sites and partisan sites that have sprung up that you have never even heard of. And, yes, avoid Breitbart, avoid Huffington Post, and Infowars, MotherJones, altNews, AlterNet, DeadSpin, Gateway Pundit, TruthOut, Instapundit, The Raw Story, Talking Points Memo, Free Republic, avoid The Drudge Report, and avoid Slate, etc. They are all actually just bullshit, with an agenda - and will leave out context, and facts, to sway you. Expect simple, unvarnished truth. All of the truth. “Just the facts, ma’am.” Insist on it. Avoid Hannity, avoid Rush, avoid anything that is so openly just lies and bullshit. You do not need someone to tell you what your opinion “ought to be.” Read objective sources, and then you can make your own mind. Stick to the same long-standing news sources that have existed for 50 and 100 years. But, only for the NEWS. Avoid their editorials, their op-ed pieces, their analyses, their opinions - Avoid all of their opinion stuff. The “owners” of real legit journalism sources may be corrupt, but the news department is run by an editor - and he or she will never allow the owners to interfere. The editor will demand 100% ethical journalism on every article. When a journalist strays, he or she is disciplined, or fired. AND - you will see the public retraction. If the sources you are visiting or viewing or reading to do NOT practice that - avoid them. You are being manipulated. NOTICE when someone is fired, for breaching ethics. Notice when NBC disciplines and demotes an anchor for violating the code (Brian Williams). That is a good thing. They practice ethical journalism. Notice when ABC News fires Linsey Davis for putting up her own fake crime scene tape, to make a news report appear even more “dramatic.” That is a good thing. They are following the ethical rules, and she violated them. Take note. Note when the New York Times fired Jayson Blair because he misled readers and Times colleagues with dispatches that purported to be from Maryland, Texas and other states, when often he was far away, in New York. Take note. That tells you that they ARE following the rules, and he screwed up. That is a good thing. BUT - when you visit the websites of the New York Times, or any of the above, stay away from the op-ed nonsense, the editorials, the analysis, the opinion pages. You do not need that. THOSE articles are often not even written by journalists, but by the corporate ownership, and they are often trying to manipulate your thought, or your vote, or your action… You do not NEED someone to tell you how you should think, or feel, about any event. THAT is propaganda. That is manipulation. You ONLY need the facts of the event, with 100% complete context. You are an adult. You can make up your own mind." - Bruce Spielbauer

@Robert Townrow Yes. I agree 100% with that sentiment. Intelligent respectful dialogue is the way to go. This country would be a lot better off if both sides of the fence could drop the visceral hatred and just have a conversation. Actually listen to one another and try to figure out why the other person feels a certain way. Both right and left in this country have largely engaged in name calling and an exchange of insults for a long time. No one that I know of has ever changed their mind in politics because someone out shouted them or came up with better insults-and yet u see that mindset repeated constantly. As u mentioned, I've had conversations with friends of mine who are Trump supporters, and they often comment how "reasonable" I am even if they don't agree with my views. I think the key is to start from a place where I am not trying to "convince" anybody of anything. I just stay calm, actually listen to what they have to say, and either find some common ground or explain politely an alternative view. And u know what? Even if their opinions are really heated, they tend to calm down, actually listen to what I have to say, and show me respect even if they don't agree. To me that's a victory. Real dialogue is a victory.

But to do it, you have to first divorce yourself from the idea of "winning" the conversation. And second you have to divorce yourself from the idea of reasoning them to different choices than the ones they have made. And only once you have done that should you begin the conversation. Because your goal in this scenario is not to debate them, it is to ask them questions about their beliefs and choices until you drill down to their core beliefs. Once you have done that, you can have a conversation about those values and how Trump doesn't offer any support of those values. Notably, you still won't win that conversation. But you will have sparked an opportunity for them to later reflect and reassess their view.

Growing up in the uk I had a serious case of hero worship towards America, home to both natural wonders (Yellowstone) and man made (Hollywood) that fascinated me from an early age. Television was a window into another world that was evolving rapidly. When I was old enough to know what one was I wanted to be an astronaut and live in a future like star trek with equality and justice, scientific wonders would make war obsolete, there would be compassion, humanity, no greed or hunger and where technology made the world a better safer more leisurely and relaxed world. We were told that computers and automation would free us from menial labour and the jobs lost would be paid for from the taxes from companies that were now more profitable. It seemed like the world might be headed towards creating a better future. It is so sad to watch ruthless Capitalism with no social responsibility run riot in modern America which has allowed for America to become victim to a corrupt Government that is attempting to burn the worlds leading superpower down to the ground during the worst time in living memory, all for the sake of financial gain and personal power for a few elitist dinosaurs. When russia hacked emails to interfere with the 2016 elections the focus was on emails damaging to the Democratic candidate, the hack also targeted the republican emails, in keeping with russia’s continuing efforts to collect compromising material on as many people in foreign positions of power as it can to be used when needed, I'm thinking that there had to be some pretty bad stuff in the emails or other media they may have collected, maybe from a wealthy abuser with their own private plane and island and that had secret recording equipment built into them? From what I can see it has allowed putins actions to receive such a tepid response from the republican party when they should be appalled at his actions. "I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible with liberty and justice for all." created by Francis Bellamy, an American Christian Socialist minister. America had been trying to change into a more socialist nation from its founding and especially after the civil war but with progress came opposition in the form of what is now the republican party, (but who were the opposition to Lincoln’s party and were pro slavery but changed their name to the republican party and were responsible for the passing of the jim crow laws and racial segregation in the early twentieth century after the more democratic republican party changed their party name to something more inclusive and demonstrative of their progressive nature) who took every opportunity to try to impede any progress towards a fairer America for all people. I think that the republicans have been doing everything they can to strip the socialism out of America and that the efforts were ramped up more noticeably during and following the reagan era, where money was taken away from social projects and given to the private sector, our uk also had at the time a conservative leader who attacked social programmes set up in the wake of the second world war, like The National Health service, The Postal Service, The British Broadcasting Service and a few others. They would de-fund services and add layers of state appointed positions to take money away from front line services until the service could barely function then take the service over and "privatise" it and reverse the changes they had made to it so it could then make money for a select few once it was profitable again. We truly are two countries separated by a common language. Thank you for keeping the world informed. When lies are being spread by large corporate news agencies that control 90% of the media, and people believe them and continue to follow an orange idol (or orange idiot, trumpanzee, the orange emperor, herr agolf twittler, trumpty dumpty, Der GropenFeuhrer, Trumplethinskin, bunker baby, the Tangerine Twat, Toddler-in-Chief trouser trump, Mango Musolini. trumpski, trumpster fire, the Dotard in Chief, Cadet Bunker Boy “impeached Spanky PeePee Tapes" McBonespurs and his flying monkey, The Mad Mango, President mini-stroke, etc.) then egregious crimes and actions are taken with impunity. Trump is an abject and obvious failure; his business "successes" prior to office are filled with fraud, corruption, bankruptcy and failure. Born into luxury he conned his way into the White House using techniques and tactics learned from roy cohn and roger stone had used while doing dirty tricks to help nixon win and now, like a truculent child, trump intends to use anything to destroy your country to make you pay for not loving him and to try to keep himself one step away from being sent to prison when he loses the election and when his presidential immunity is lost, The recent bailout of big corporations and large businesses of over $6 trillion is quite a lot ($18,181.81 per person if it were to be given to every single citizen of America equally,) when the people that worked the hardest are getting the least back (no change there) then there is something wrong with the whole system and it needs to be fixed. I really hope that America can learn and change while staying safe and make a better fairer country and by extension the world. "trump claims that he is mentally fit enough to stand trial while committing crimes" should wind some trump trolls up but could be used as evidence later. trump has really shown poor leadership skills all through his term and has failed to deal with a pandemic that is ravaging America unchecked but has been almost stopped in its tracks in some countries with responsible and decisive leaders. But I think there is an almost equal health issue that could impact America, trumps mental state, there has not been a word about why he was forced to take the competency test that he has been bragging about passing, what frightened the trump camp so much that he had to be rushed to hospital and take an easy test? Stroke? Untreated syphilis? It made a simple ramp a major obstacle for trump. The trump troll farms are out in force trying to convince the world that the brain damaged trump is the good guy, that people who think fascists are bad and should be beaten, gassed and shot with impunity, that his stormtroopers come in peace to protect buildings and statues and maybe kill a couple of protesters every now and again on trumps orders (then trump goes on tv to lie about events that occurred because of his words and hate and that black is white, etc.) There seems to be a relatively easy answer to a lot of these problems, start reversing a lot of the laws that have given the lucky few with massive wealth massive tax breaks just for being wealthy, while saying that their money will trickle down to the poorer people. The problem with that is that the rich don't spend their money so that it goes back into society, they tend to keep it in banks or the stock market and use it to get more money. The way to get that money circulating again is by taxing companies and the super wealthy at higher rates for a start. In the 1960's the Beatles became multi millionaires while paying 60% tax, that tax money was then used to help society by being spent on schools, hospitals and infrastructure like roads and railways. If a wealthy person died the government would collect a death duty so that some of the wealth went back into the pot so that others had a chance to earn some of it for themselves. Money is an abstract concept designed to be used instead of the bartering system it was not invented to be hoarded, and like communism, capitalism is failing because of greed. Why do people want more money than they can spend in a lifetime? If the people that obsessively collect money collected cats in the same way they would be called crazy but because it is money they are obsessively collecting then that is fine and dandy. The world needs to change for the better and hopefully the craziness we are going through will be a catalyst for the change towards a fairer world for all, (PS I'm not really a socialist (I think, I could be wrong), I'm more of a progressive Trekkie with a bit of star wars), always looking for friends as we out-way the enemy. I hope America can survive trumps rule and come through this a better, fairer, stronger and more united Country than at any time since it "threw off the shackles of oppression" and declared itself a new, free nation. End trumps tyranny and stand up to the bully for the sake of justice. Glenn Kirschner has a few good videos dealing with this lawless president and explaining how to even the scales of justice, it gives me a bit of hope.kzbin.infovideos Get well soon America, Live long and prosper. It does work in practice - but it's a long and hard process. Talking with someone who is extremly emotional, irrational and propably brainwashed by propaganda for decades? The mere mental stress of staying calm in this situation is something I don't expect many to be able to do. I certainly have trouble with it and I'd consider myself an extremly calm person. And then you also need to take in their shit "arguments" and try to react to it on the spot, to the most outlandish and insane conspiracy shit and supposed facts you'll ever encounter... Which takes a lot of fast critical thinking and empathy to get to the bottom of it - and that's an extremly hard-to-learn skill. Thank you, Dr. Markman. Your advice is good - and not what I expected.

Sometime in 2019, I called a radio station and asked the caller a simple question. " If an American citizen cheats on their taxes, are they a patriot? " ( Definition of a patriot is someone who obeys and supports the laws of America.) The radio host is a graduate of Yale, so I did not expect a " play dumb " response. That is exactly what I got. He normally gave callers 20-30 seconds. This call lasted 8 minutes. He tried to mix up EVADE with AVOID and suggested evading is good, avoiding is bad. Really ! I listened to the call on replay and he introduced 7 different dodges to avoid giving any answer. I ended the call by saying - " You will not give me an answer, good bye ". Never one did I say the word Trump or make any mention of any person, but he accused me of making the call about Trump. His screener was able to squeeze in one comment about me. He said on the air, I was trolling the Host. I asked one question about taxes during tax season ! LOL. I had called at 2:49 pm, and since his show ended at 3:00, I did not think my call would be taken. But he took it and was so centered on trying to throw me off my game, he forgot to take the 5 minute commercial break at 2:52. He spent the last minute of his show blaming me for messing up the last commercial segment of the show.
