As being an owner of 3 chinchillas the best thing that has helped me is be consistent. What I mean, is play and interact every day. Another thing is keep treats on hand (My chins love rose hips and cheerios). Give them treats every time they go near you, this way they will assume when they go near you it's okay and they will be rewarded. Also the first time you are near your chinchilla don't make sudden movements.

In my case, he was stuck in a way-too-small cage and never let out or got attention for the first 3 years of his life by someone who obviously couldn't care for him properly. Their only interaction was opening the cage once a day to put food in the bowl. [ :'( ] I was told "Don't try to touch him, he WILL bite!" At first this was true, if you put your hand anywhere near him he'd just attack. But that was just because he was neglected and frustrated. Little by little, he became more comfortable when he realized someone DOES care... and now he thrusts his face into my hand when he wants scritches. It's so precious! He also makes happy chirps when I sing silly songs about his ridiculous ears and big fluffy butt. ^_^

llamaPlays #DIY I would just leave him alone for a little bit and he’ll get over it. It’s not a huge deal, don’t worry. Sometimes Merlin escapes in the house and I have to chase him down to get him back to his cage, and he’ll be stressed and hide in his hut for a day or two but he gets over it and gets back to normal 💕

I like to give extra dust baths during stressful times. Then I turn the lights off and leave them alone for a while and bring treats later.

If you're having problems with your chinchilla biting, I recommend wearing gloves. When I tamed my late hamster, she used to bite a lot when handled, but wearing gloves gave me the confidence to not be scared of her and allowed her to get used to me without biting.

Only thing that worked for me as far as training is Walnuts. You're not supposed to feed them regulalry but I use a tiny piece as a treat. It was like crack for my chinchilla. Shed go NUTS and do ANYTHING for it. SHE COMES TO EVERY TIME NO WHEN i SAY "COME HERE" not treats necessary anymore.

Chinchillas in most cases are not solitary animals, so I would recommend getting two of them. Since the one you are getting is a baby it should be easier to introduce other chinnies to it.

When I first got my chinci he would bite me out of fear and make me bleed usually. But with patience, consistency, and calmness he now knows me and only will knaw on my jewelry and will only nibble me when hes mad or scared. He never draws blood or gives me a painful bite anymore. Hes a total sweetheart and cutie, I love him to death.

So if I do get a chinchilla for Christmas, idk if being gone the whole day and then suddenly showing up would scare a chinchilla. It might scare him/her when you come back, but being gone will give it quiet time to explore their cage so it might help to be gone a bit. Just try not to be too loud when coming hack home and talk to your chin in a quiet voice when you approach it

I just found this youtube channel and it is so helpful!! I got a chinchilla around one month ago and I have a few questions. 1. My chinchilla has been living alone, and he got out of his cage once. Ever since he got out he kind of sits and close to the door and wants to get out. I cant afford to get another chinchilla for a few years and I dont know if it wouldbe too late to get one a few years later. 2. My critter cage is only one story and I don't know if its too small. Currently he would bite my lip and ear i assume he is kissing me.there a male shih tzu present and they get along so well the. I hope you can answer my questions I’ve been watching all your videos because I got two chinchillas and I’m pretty lost in all this chinchilla theme Buuuut, let me tell you, they were suppose to be mom and daughter and then the daughter got sick and I took her to the vet and found out she is actually a male Then I came back to see if the mom was actually his mom or his dad, and I’m 90% she is her dad :| The dad is about 6 years and the son is about 6 months but the baby doesn’t takes sand baths nor jump up and down (like if he were afraid of it) but I don’t get why, because his dad does like jumping and taking baths in front of his son, why is it like that? ALSO one them (not sure who) barks at night and in the morning, but they don’t seem to fight, that actually gets along pretty well, is it normal?? @6:18 My chinchilla was opposite: she hates head scratches and petting. But she would be very calm when petted her like a cat. Animals are alot more indivualized than I thought. Then again, Cheerios was a girl chinchilla... So I notice, that Merlin really loves chin scratches, Cheerios didnt hate scratches, but she looked more confused. Maybe calm. It was weird, like she couldn't feel anything there. God I miss her... I keep wondering if there was something I could have done better. I know she was store bought, and she was waaay older than what those assholes advertised. And they kept her cage right in front of the bird section. I couldn't believe. And whenever tried giving her back, the memory of seeing her hunched in a corner, just angry and miserable, and the birds of prey squawking loudly in the room, probably knowing she was just behind the wall, I couldn't give her back. Cheerios and I shared a common bond, we experienced alot of resentment from neglect. I hope she felt cared for.

rule 1 - dont let your chinchilla run about in your bedroom the first week you get one! takes ages getting them back in and they bit through my tv and xbox cables! rule 2- dont leave it over night because you couldnt be bothered chasing it around the room, woke up in the morning and half the oak table leg was gone! rule 3 - have wooden platforms and not all metal in the cage - unless you dont like your sleep, they will jump around that cage faster than sonic trusssmeeeee haha

Amanda Pandina I just go in every two or three days and move things slowly and gently and clean. Usually the chin runs away and that’s okay as long as you aren’t touching and bothering them. It’s difficult but I usually wait till it’s quite messy💕

I just got two boys, my first chins, and one is super sweet and likes to lick my hand like a dog and grooms me super softly. His brother not so much lol, but he doesn't seem to dislike me, he comes to see me, doesn't run away or bark when he bites. He'll just be grooming or sniffing my hand and then he'll nip. I think he's just naturally more dominant though, he tries to push his brother away to get all the attention and the first chewing sticks I gave them he stole all of them and tried to hide them under the hay in their bowl 😂

Doesn’t hurt unless you make them scared or upset.

It'll bled. If it happens, don't pull away. Let them see that you're hurt. That way he feels guilty. And may sniff. And may never bite you again. But use mittens first!!!
