Cool video thanks! I’m 50 years old and for the first time in my life I’m learning how to ice skate and play hockey. I’m doing both at the same time. Diving right into the abyss. All these little things I need to learn. I don’t even know the rules of hockey. But I’ll get there. I’m looking at this as being a rest of my life passion.

I take a strip and run it along the bottom of the blade, folding it onto both sides, then wrap it toe to heel. Gives a little bit of extra lift.

I usually tape in a weird manner. I do the toe to heel method, but I start out first by putting a strip along the bottom of the blade, then tape around the blade. I also use a puck afterwards instead of the roll of tape to smooth out the creases as this also brings out the glue a bit turning the normal stick tape into a sticky tape of sorts. I like the extra tacky feeling but dislike using friction tape.

Yeah usually foam tape is used for the grip to give you a nice cushioned feel, I don't think anyone uses it for the blade. Stick wax is used on the blade to keep the snow from building up and it also gives you a lot more grip, some guys put it on thick and the puck practically sticks to their blade.
@howtohockeytraining
@howtohockeytraining 12 жыл бұрын
@BladeTapeCA actually yeah, :) You guys sent me some at the end of last season and I tucked it away to do a review of this year. I have it on my back-up stick, it's super grippy and has held up nicely. I had to adjust a bit at first though as it gripped the puck more than I was used to and the puck flipped over when I was moving the puck quickly from one side to the other.

Good on you for making these videos. I tape my stick heel to toe, with almost no overlap and end the tape on the back hand leaving the toe exposed. I find an exposed toe is faster for toe drags. I always put a quick a strip of tape along the bottom because the little overlap wears down quickly and the last thing you want is another broken heel.

For inline hockey, when I play outside on cement rinks, I'll use good quality duct tape on the blade, particularly the bottom edge to make it last. It may not be "cool" enough for some of you kids, but it grips fine and lasts longer than hockey tape ... and I don't have to spend $20 a month or so on tape due to the cement wearing thru your cloth tape pretty quickly. Playing indoor on tile you don't have near the amount of wear as on a cement rink, so cloth holds up fine.

After buying sticks with relatively straight blades for most of my life, I finally bought one with a pretty dramatic curve on it. I can't seem to tape it right. I think Ray Charles could do better. I have no idea what I am doing wrong but the tape always ends up asymmetrical to the rest of the tape on blade as well as bubbles a lot on the top where I wrap it over. Any insight would be helpful.

@19shanedoan19 That is a good idea with the white tape during practice. I am pretty sure I heard Gretzky say the same thing about white tape, that is why I mentioned it in the video. I tried the extra strip on the bottom but I don't like the feel. Thanks for the comment

Toe to heel, with a couple of layers of tape on the bottom of the blade under the wrapping for protection (I'm poor). I also, instead of running the roll along the wrapped blade, use a puck because it seems to make it stickier and the puck doesn't seem to come off my stick when I am playing.
@Analeruption77
@Analeruption77 12 жыл бұрын
You method is kind of a cool idea, toe to heel, so the puck doesn't pull the tape off, but I always found that you get way more snow buildup that way, which is why I go heel to toe.

I tape my blade heel to toe and I cover the toe. The reason for this is because the toe of my blade starts to chip away faster without it. It still does with the full tape job, but when it does I think the tape helps keep moisture out of the cracks. Do other players get the same problem? I usually have to re-tape after one game and one practice when the tape wears off on the heel half of the bottom. Thanks for the videos.

just a change-up on what i said earlier.. now i use white tape about 3/4 of the blade all the way to the toe, and about 1/2 cm overlap, but what i do is rub the blade with a puck so it flattens the tape onto the blade. I especially mark up the top of the blade so that it doesn't blend in with the colour of the ice and i can see it much better with my peripheral vision

AWESOME! BUT, to put more spin on your shot, tape from the heel to the toe - as the raised tape ridges will protrude in the correct direction to 'grip' and spin the puck off your stick.

with higher end sticks it is important to tape the toe as well to prevent it from chipping away. With cheaper sticks it doesn't really matter.

Black or blue tape for my Bauer Supreme One.5 shaft/TotalOne PM9 junior blade combo; black tape only on my Nike Bauer Vapor IX; white tape on wooden sticks. No knob OR electrical tape 2mm knob. 3-4" tape at top of shaft, 3/4" at about 4/5 of the way down the shaft because that's where my lower hand goes on a slapshot. Up to but not exceeding 2" on the sweet spot on the blade. I wouldn't even tape if it weren't compulsory haha

Just my imput on Black vs White. I use white tape on practice sticks because the marks can show me where im hitting the puck, If I need to move the puck a bit on my slap shot, or why my wrist show is sucking. I use black tape for games because as slight as it may be, it hides the puck a bit. Another thing: I like tapeing a layer on the bottom of the blade, where It contacts the ice before the real tape job. It lasts longer. And I tape from 3/4 to heal, to the full toe.

take a few pieces of tape and put half on one side of the blade going sideways and bring it over past the end of the blade to the other side and then tape the blade so you dont chipp the end of the blade and i use ice was on the blade and use a blow dryer on medium heat and heat the tape 30 seconds on each side so it doesnt fall off and every pair of gloves i had got ruined by black tape at the top of the shaft so i use white tapp on the top and black on the bottom.

Hey just wondering why you think toe to heel lasts longer? I personally think heel to toe lasts longer because the "ridges" are facing back, when you go toe to heel the "ridges" are facing forward so snow gets stuck in there and the tape gets wet and the addhesive starts to loosen up at the tape comes off, just my opinion.

Black tape. I use cheap sticks (usually) So I put a strip along the bottom edge for durability and wear prevention, and I also put a strip on the front of the blade for vibration dampening, then I go from toe to about 2" shy of the heel. Occasionally I'll put a line or 2 of white or colored tape on top of the black tape in the toe area so that when I do look down (I keep my eye on the puck for slapshots, golf reflex) I know where the stick should hit the ice before the slapper to load up flex.
