I make a living as a guitarist. I’m always trying to find a new way to tape because the joints can get really sore after judo. Thank you for the video.

I like the part about taping the very bottom part of the two fingers and will use that. I jammed my middle finger and started taping it to my other finger to avoid extra damage a few classes ago. This will help. Thanks!

Couldn't agree more regarding your point about over-using tape. There are a few people at my club (less experienced) who spend 10 minutes before every session mummifying the crap out of their hands no matter what, and it drives me crazy - it's completely unnecessary, looks dumb, and like you say, long-term it just means your hands don't ever get stronger. That's not to say tape doesn't have its place in the case of real injuries and things, but in my opinion a bit of constant mild to moderate hand ache is just an inevitable part of being a judoka.

"Mumifying their fingers." That's funny, I'm the same as you Shintaro, I jammed my finger at training so I needed to use some tape, to act as a splint during practice, other times I tape is when my fingers are bleeding, however outside of that I do not tape them.

One of my new years resolutions is to compete for the first time. I'm over 35 with two years training. Any help on what should I get beside finger tape and what should I do in preparation?

I always suggest going to see a tournament first. Have you gone to one to see the local talent? Your teammates compete?

@@Shigashi84 I've found a small, local tournament I'm going to attend. But I don't know who's there or if somebody is coming along.

Could you do one on how to deal with broken toes ? Somehow I get that every so often. Snagging in clothing usually, getting stuck between mats, crashing into ukes ankle when missing Ko Uchi Gari recently and one guy actually tried Ippon seoi nage while he was standing on my toes... Or just something stupid at work like kicking a piece of steel out of the way while it was still bolted to the floor... I hardly ever.get other injuries but somehow my poor toes always manage to get broken....
