I really appreciate these videos. For team collaboration, we were supposed to plan out when we are doing certain parts of the reading components. My co-teachers pretty much told me that sixth graders know how to read and that we don't need to teach them anything about phonics unless they are tier 2. This really helped clear that up.

For sixth grade: In Tier I, Should I start the year off with this or with syllable types (open, closed, silent e, vowel team vowel r, cle)?

Reviewing the sound-spellings within the syllable types is always a great idea. We prefer the multisyllabic word reading strategy in this video because it is flexible and doesn’t require a reader, especially struggling readers, to have to recall syllable types from memory to decode an unknown word.
