I know 3 foreign languages and in my opinion, unless one wants to be an interpreter, one foreign language is totally enough. If you're deciding which one, pick a language for which there is lots of content available without much effort, that way the child can pick up on it and educate themselves independently much easier growing up and becoming proficient without much of external help. As I commented before in another carnahan vid, I learnt German via watching cartoons without dictionary, without external help. I had maybe 2-3 years of really basic German at school where I got average marks. Somehow it all fell into place with being exposed to all the content every day without much effort from anyone, including me.

When did you start teaching your kids? When my baby was born, I constantly spoke to him in English and Spanish and he ended up being super slow to learn to talk at all so I'm wondering if I started too soon. He's almost 3 and finally starting to really talk again, so I was thinking I might start trying with the Spanish again, very slowly.

That’s a fantastic idea! However, I highly recommend the parents know at least the basics of the language to avoid teaching their children grammatically incorrect phrases. It’s harder to change what we have learned than to start from scratch. For example: If the parents don’t know that Spanish adjectives have 4 different forms (masculine singular, feminine singular, masculine plural and feminine plural) you’ll probably teach your little girl to say „Estoy cansado“ When she should be saying „Estoy cansada”. Little mistakes here and there are nothing to worry about, but if _all_ the adjectives are potentially wrong, that’ll become a problem later
