Sucks that middle school kids get chromebooks in school they take full advantage of that with games and what not during school so taking away devices while at home during the week is a joke unfortunately . So what do u recommend instead?

My first recommendation would be to homeschool. But, if that isn’t possible, there isn’t any reason a child has to use devices at home just because they do at school. Is there something I’m missing? As a parent, you can regulate what they are allowed to do at home and can discuss with their teacher the matter of how the devices at school are used. But there are a growing number of reasons to homeschool or at least choose a private school at this point in time. Children need to get off devices and into life. Yes, I agree. The Chromebooks at home ruined a responsible and A student child. Nothing interests the children but the KZbin on Chromebook. The whole homework is on Chromebook. No.more books reading. Educational system is destroying kids' future...

Our 6yo won't even agree to sitting down and having a conversation. When we've tried, she refuses to engage and will not accept any responsibilities. I'm ready to clear all the toys from her room and make her earn them back!

I’m sorry you are struggling. It’s important to work in building your relationship in order for her to be open to conversations about these kinds of things. Have you tried doing eye to eye time twice a day?

@Angie Haworth Eye to eye time is 5-10 minutes of uninterrupted time where you focus completely on her. Turn off all distractions like phone, computer, TV and listen to her. Ask, “what’s the best part of your day?” And let her tell you about it. This is not a time to correct her or talk about any heavy issues unless she wants to. It is only about building a relationship. Do this at least twice a day. You will see a big change in her behavior generally once you implement this. Once this has happened for a week consistently, then you can start working on the other things that need to be addressed but NOT during eye to eye time. That should always be a time of building. Not a time of correction. Do the other kinds of conversations completely separate from eye to eye time. Impossibly this video would be a good one for you to take a look at. My son is 10 years old. And he is more responsible than he should be at this age. He took all things as it's my duty it's my fault, I have to do this. I'm afraid he is going to lose his innocence. The video explains. Use a motivator and make it a privilege. If they don’t earn that privilege by getting done on time, they lose it. That is all explained. But the motivator has to be something they really like to do.

Thank you for your question. Your child has the ability to eat dinner. They decide whether or not to fulfill their responsibility or not. If they choose not to and miss it, that’s not going to cause any harm. But it will teach them a lesson. No--it’s not harsh if done as described on this video.
