Just want to thank you for your uploads. I've decided not to ride my horse this summer due to mild back issues and strengthen her on the ground instead. Your videos match what I already do with my horses as play so it's been easy to build on and helped give my sessions better structure and purpose when beginning. Thanks :)

I have a few questions. How long did you do the basics of liberty before you started doing the circles and changes of direction? When i unclip the lead from the halter and ask my horse to do a circle, he just gets distracted, does his own thing and walks where ever he wants. But my horse does all the basics really well. My horse also does the circles well and changes of direction, it’s just when he’s “free” from the halter, he just does his own thing

You talked about "the start of Liberty Circles" in this video. Were you talking about doing a complete 360 on command down the road? I would love for you to do a video on that. While they are at liberty in the round pin or arena going around and you ask or que them to do a full turn and head back in the same direction they were going. This may be quite advanced, Thank you so kindly!

Definitely trying this! 😀 I love your tutorials! I couldn't really see in this video but would you recommend using treats? My mare Amira can get rude if you don't give her the treats so would it work without them? And should we do it in an open space or en enclosed? I have a large dressage arena, a jump paddock and a round yard. Which would you say is best to use? ☺️💞

If you guys are confused, observer herd behavior. with herd there is an leader. leader doesn’t mean rude or aggressive/ it means trust. the horses in the herd trust the leader to make safe decisions. it’s comes from instincts in the wild. you want to be the leader the horse trust. with your horses you want a trusting companionship

I have started doing these steps with my horse and he has decided that whenever I try and lundge him with the line he will try and run me over before going into his circle, and does the samething when he changes direction. Any tips on how to work on this, he is a very people oriented horse and doesn't care about personal space one bit.

Hi I have a 10 year old saddlebred, who I'm trying to do some liberty with, but he's a bit lazy. The only problem about this is that he has no response to a whip at all. I have tapped him with it, and snapped it all around him for noise, and he has no response. Any ideas on how I can get him a little more responsive?
@halielongobardi38849 жыл бұрын
Hi so I'm still working on the things in part 1 of liberty training with my horse and things are going pretty well. However I find that he doesn't like me yielding his haunches and he get angry with me when I do it. He often then tries to run off if I try to continue to do it and show him it's okay. What can I do to keep his attention and what do I do if he runs away? When I try to then yield his haunches when he runs away, he ignores me. I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. xxx

okay so, theres this pony that im training to do liberty and stuff but when i lunge him to the left he tends to just walk into me and wont rlly lunge to the left, but with the right he is perfect. i was wondering if i can have some tips to help him get the left direction better?
@aninakruit79 жыл бұрын
I have a question. What if your horse has a bad past and has a hard time with wips. I've been working with my horse for a very long time and he is doing better he just gets scared whenever I only try to lounge him (with a without whip)
@IvyMPDressage7 жыл бұрын
also, one of my horses, pi, is very good at liberty, but always runs off in the canter? I have gone back to square 1 a number of times, and he's perfect at walk and trot, but ignores me and leaves in the canter if he doesn't have a halter+lead on.

I think this is like my third or forth comment in a row, so sorry for the spam, I promise this is the last one XD I just have one question, and if it remains unanswered that's ok, :) my mare is blind in her left eye, which makes it hard for her to respond to my body cues when I'm lungeing. She actually listens very well to verbal cues, but I feel as though some times she gets them confused, any tips? As I said before your videos are amazing, and so very clear, I'm going to see if my friend will let me try this on her fully abled pony :)

Could you do a tutorial on how to teach your horse to rear while your riding him?
@JC_horsetraining9 жыл бұрын
I'm not allowed to teach hake to rear under saddle hahah (he is my moms horse) but my best advice is to have a helper cuing them on the ground! They usually get it pretty fast!
@JC_horsetraining9 жыл бұрын

@HaveFaithBreyers9 жыл бұрын
Okay, but if someone helps you cue the horse on the ground won't it learn to rear if you cue it on the ground? :)
@JC_horsetraining9 жыл бұрын
*HaveFaithBreyers* no, this is when you add whatever cue you want it to be from the horse. You sit on your horse and for example pull up a bit on the halter, while you do that the person from the ground cues as well. Eventually you try to make the person on the ground cue less and less and eventually not at all.
@JC_horsetraining9 жыл бұрын
*HaveFaithBreyers* Note. Your horse has to know how to rear from the ground first.

Katelyn Early your horse is probably just lazy! It all depends on their personalities, horses that are more hot headed or just energetic in general will give you better results with stuff like Liberty. I have a very lazy horse too who is stubborn, they just need some extra encouragement and if there's always a reward such as treats or a good scratch at the end, they are normally more willing to do it again for you!

Laetitia van Kempen you can try doing bonding exercises, things like join up, there's lots of videos out there! Always make sure that you're rewarding your horse too, give them reassurance constantly! If they're doing exactly what you've asked of them, give them a treat or a scratch, some horses just don't enjoy doing stuff like this as their minds are too all over the place, but it takes dedication and patience! Hope that helped 😄
