I have one. Made in the 50s serial# HH 7058 Gold plate or gold bronze? With box and papers. Used to carry it. Great lighter.

If it gold filled it would be stamped 18k or 18kts and possibly 750 and there would be a gold stamp

@@markr5440 then i would say you have no clue what you're talking about. This is a real serial number. You can spot them from a mile away. Fake ones are always very computer like deep stamped in a straight line. Originals like this on the other hand always have 1 or 2 numbers/letters that are a bit of the lin. Like this one in the video. They do that on purpose which makes it's much harder to fake it with machines.

Take out the roller. Authentic ST Duponts have the initials of the person who gave it the final polish prior to final assembly hand-engraved on the housing.

The Chinese copies are not cheaply made and I have a few and the Chinese make quality Fake S.T. Dupont lighters and I beleive S.T. Dupont in France would agree! The Fakes are great advertising for Dupont for when you want to move on up in life and buy the Real Thing, then you know you have ARRIVED!

It looks like yours came out of a China shop, there are several real 18k st DuPont on eBay, and ones that are plated being passed off as 18k (75% gold) go find the ones stamped 18k or 18kts and 750, and you will see your serial number is phoney baloney. DuPont made thousands of L1 18k, mine is in the 2000 range and one exact one on eBay right now is in 3000s number

Now...... I have an enigma. A hobnail line 2 gold. With very tiny hand stamped serial number. I think it's fake because I got it off ebay cheap, and if the seller sold me a $700 lighter for $65 I would have thought he'd cancel the auction. I know I would have. Has refill cap paint of proper colour, has C stamped into some internal case parts, Has a number 2 hand scribed under flint roller where the final polisher would write his initals (refference dupont video)....... I either have a $700 lighter cheap, or I have a "Quality eastern block reproduction"....... My hobnail pattern does not go around the front of the lid,also has no border for initials (like this one in your video,and some new ones I have seen). My vintage silver gatsby I believe is real has the initial border on the front of lid (square) Very interesting.

These lighters are made to be worthless by Chinese. I have sold my real Dupont and kept the fake one. Why? The weight is better, (heavier), the ping of the lid is better louder and more melodic (real DuPont ping is very muted or none existent at all). If you hold real Dupont and fake in your hand you know what I mean. DuPont lighters are overpriced crap. They have been milking stupid men for their middle-class money for generations. No more.

I have to agree the Chinese make modern excellent Copies, why I don't know! They should produce their own brand and capitalize on it! I do own several legit S.T. Duponts and they are a great lighter and are lighter in weight! But your worth whatever you can get and the real Duponts have a higher price like Rolex and do command a higher price!

Oh BS, yours has no gold amount stamped , mine from 68 has 18kts and the serial number clearly stamped , It’s an L1 Cartier. Yours looks faked! Plus it’s not 18k gold, it’s plate.
