Dude, you wont beleive this but ac wasnt working upstairs and had a blank face thermostat. I had checked several things and was almost convinced that it wasnt a thermostat problem. It's 11 pm on a Friday night so I'm pretty bummed about the problem. Saw your video and skeptically tried your idea. I created my own jumps start wire with electrical tape and a paper clip. This video was the absolute BEST! if it was my thermostat that was causing my a/c to not work, Id be very bummed paying some electrician couple hundred dollars to change my thermostat. This video provided all the info I needed. Brilliant suggesting just trying the fan cause I have one of those programmable units that takes a degree to figure whether the problem is the unit or my inability to get the "wake, daytime, night, start, finish, Mon-Sun" all or even partially correct. Noting 24 volt shock is nothing helped, so you do not have to figure where the hell on your fuse box is the thermostat breaker. The paperclip tool is ingenious, and lastly suggesting buying the same unit (I didn't want the program nonsense), but to skip all the rewiring was a tip I couldn't turn down. THX!!!

I took off the cover and it did not work. Went to panel on the unit and tried again. This time it worked. Mr. YourSelf: Thank you very much for your great videos! can you please make short video on outdoor unit short cycles reasons?. Thanks
@Your-Self3 жыл бұрын
Here are a few reasons that the outdoor condenser unit is short cycling: Weak batteries in the Thermostat. Loose wires at the Thermostat, Air-Handler/Furnace, or Condenser. Clogged air filter or the outdoor condenser unit. The Contactor going bad. The Capacitor going bad. The outdoor Fan going bad. The Over-Flow Switch is full of condensate water and tripping. Refrigerant leak, low Freon, iced up tubes, clogged metering device, bad compressor... the last line is a major problem for which you need to call a tech.
@raulrobles29616 ай бұрын
If we have the same issue as this video what can be the problem. I replaced the thermostat and still nothing turns on. I tried junping it from the thermostat and nothing. Not getting 24v to thermostat. I jump it from the main board and it works fine only.
@Your-Self6 ай бұрын
Possibly a broken low-voltage wire inside the wall. When you remove the thermostat, you should have a spare wire twisted behind it. You could try installing that wire instead of the red wire on terminal R. And install the same wire color on the main board on terminal R as well. If that doesn't work, you may need to feed a brand-new wire cable through the wall... not fun.

I definitely agree these are safe ways of testing a thermostat but honestly I would change batteries 1st if no change then I'd buy a cheap $15 dollar thermostat and see if it makes a difference because having a back up never hurts. But all this does is remove the thermostat from being a problem most of the time it's a broken or loose wire, blown fuse, or another cheap easy to fix part the expensive part of heating and cooling always comes down to labor cost and usually doubled hourly rate for emergency calls

@Your-Self2 жыл бұрын
Did you put batteries in with the correct polarity? I'd take the cover off again and experiment with batteries. The LED screen should light up in your hands, even before you put it back on the wall. If the LED is dead, try other batteries. Otherwise, the thermostat is bad.

Thank you for your video. You have mention about C terminal and batteries. Question 1: Without batteries, I wouldn't able to see the temperature numbers. Is it a good idea for everyone? Question 2: With the batteries and C terminal, can I have both of these items?

You need either batteries or the C terminal connected for the thermostat to work at all. But it's best to have both in case of a power failure, so you don't lose your programmable thermostat settings.

This is definitely weird. What's behind the wall where the thermostat is attached to? Maybe washer/dryer running at the same time, warming up the wall? The R and Rc are the central point of power for both Heating and Cooling. So they have to be jumpered together and, essentially, is the same thing. Use either one to connect to the G terminal. Thanks for the great video! Question for u. Our thermostat Keeps turning the fan on and off as we usually keep it on auto. The furnace downstairs seems to be working as we are able to turn the heat on/off however the fan keeps turning on then a few mins later back off. We put new batteries that doesn't seem to be the issue. We removed the thermostat off the wall completely and it is still clicking itself on and off. Is that a thermostat issue or a wire issue?
@Your-Self2 жыл бұрын
If you have a single thermostat and removed it completely from the wall, this could be a wiring problem or computer board in your Furnace/Air Handler problem. If you removed just the face plate from the thermostat, the problem could be with the back plate.

Hello. My A/C works fine, however, when the set temperature is reached, the compressor and fan don't turn off together. Only the compressor turns off, and the fan blows continuously, and I have it set to AUTO. When the temperature goes back up again, the compressor turns on. But fan is running 24/7. Could this be a thermostat to relay issue?
@Your-Self3 жыл бұрын
The thermostat switch from AUTO to ON could be stuck internally, so the thermostat needs to be replaced (try wiggling the switch back in forth vigorously to unstick it first). Or it could be a wiring issue. If the wire from the G terminal is touching the wire from the R terminal, the fan will continuously run. These wires without the insulation could touch inside the thermostat, inside the wall, or inside the Air-handler/Furnace.

If your C terminal is connected but the thermostat has no power, check/reset the breaker. Next, the overflow-switch could be triggered in your Air Handler (furnace). @Your-Self3 жыл бұрын
Weak batteries may not be able to close the Contactor outside. A bug or an insect could be squashed inside the Contactor, so it can't make a good connection. One or both thin wires running from the house to the AC condenser outside could be cut, chewed, or loose. Tripped high voltage breaker. Is the compressor running, humming, but the fan doesn't, or totally quiet in the outdoor unit? Did it ever work before, or you just moved in and don't know the history? And what jumper are you talking about, R to Rc?
@kennethwilson70563 жыл бұрын
@@Your-Self it worked last summer fine, so I put in a new capacitor still nothing but when I depressed the plunger on the contactor by hand the AC unit turns on but the contactor won't pull in when I use my thermostat in the house to start the AC there were no bugs between the contacts and the jumper I'm talking about was inside my thermostat inside the house
@Your-Self3 жыл бұрын
*** looks like my reply didn't go through, here is a copy*** So the A/C works, that's great. Now you need to make sure the Contactor receives about 25 VAC (on the thinner side). If you see the voltage but the plunger is not closing, replace the Contactor. If you don't see the voltage, trace it back to the house to figure where you are losing it. The filter is usually located around the furnace, but I'm not sure exactly where on the Lennox Pulse, sorry.

Why did you set 82 degree when you wanted to turn heat on?
@Your-Self4 жыл бұрын
You need to set the thermostat temperature higher than the room temperature to start the heater.

Please help.. we have the temp set at 72 furnace will turn on and off throughout the day and heat will blow but won’t go past 64 degrees.. we noticed as the days get colder the heater won’t go past that, temp it is currently 14 degrees out.. when days were a bit warmer about 40 degrees the heater would heat to the desired temp.. Could this be the thermostat??

The most likely cause is a dirty air filter at the furnace. Try removing the filter for an hour. And if it starts working better, replace it with a new one.

But what if there is no C wire connected? And I take the front part with the batteries off?
@Your-Self Жыл бұрын
The C wire is not necessary as long as you have good batteries installed. And for testing purposes, we don't use the C terminal.

What if the fan blows. But no cool or heat & temperature never changes. Would it be the thermostat? The thermostat is over 10 yrs old
@Your-Self3 жыл бұрын
If the thermostat is activating the fan, that means it's doing its job. So the problem is probably elsewhere. You may want to call a tech to investigate.
